  1. Is it best to remove any spongey sapwood before chainsaw milling? Should be easy enough to do with a drawknife and sharp spade.
  2. We have quite a few big fallen oaks in our woods and big chunky branches and this thread answers some questions I had. Cheers!
  3. Damned if you do use the washing machine, damned if you don't..... that's equal rights for ya!

    Silly saw

    Stihl vs Silky no contest!
  5. It's all a con..... including Children In Need.... because it's probably the poorest in society that contribute the biggest percentage to the cause.... causes that the Government should be providing for via childrens services, etc. The same goes for food banks. (I'm not saying we shouldn't be supporting children that need). cheers, steve

    Silly saw

    I disagree... it is FACT!
  7. SteveA

    Silly saw

    I second that.
  8. It's not called Countryfile without reason I tell thee!
  9. oh dear! Looks like the Landy is coming to the rescue!
  10. I love olives man! oooooooh! Olives rock!! ....but no UK Olives likely.
  11. That's exactly what we are (or aren't!) dealing with.... a lot of people think along the lines of "a warmer UK, just like Spain, lovely, bring it on!"..... but apart from the occasional drought summer I think we're looking at longer spells of very wet & very windy weather.... not like Spain is it. cheers, Steve
  12. So we had pretty bad floods last year in 2014.... now it's 2015 and we appear to be having the same.... anyone agree with this? cheers, steve
  13. Would only be worth doing if a new petition was setup. Otherwise, what's the point? cheers, steve
  14. I cut last years Xmas tree off the top of a 3 storey Spruce tree.... chopped it down with a Silky Saw because I didn't own a chainsaw back then. It wasn't until I felled it that I realised I chose a tree with twin leaders, so we had two fairies!
  15. I've been using standard auger drill bits.... do the Forstner bits fit a regular hand held drill? Do you find they are more efficient at removing the wood? cheers, steve
  16. I've shared it on a few Facebook pages and got a few extra clicks that way, some friends also shared it. Overall, I think most people aren't bothered about it. cheers, steve
  17. If that's the case then it would be best to start a new petition via UKGov..... and getting more of us plugging the hell out of it. cheers, steve
  18. Yes, it's quite expensive but your voice runs better on helium!
  19. Multiple choices: a) If I had time and not in a hurry I'd rebuild it using good quality spares. b) If I was in a hurry I'd buy a new saw and sell the broken one for spares or repair on ePay. c) If I had loadsa spare cash I'd buy two new saws and give the broken one away to a friend. d) If I was a bit weird I'd carry on using the broken chainsaw and make pretend chainsaw noises, until I lost my voice.
  20. I signed and shared it yonks ago, just shared again. The petition was started two years ago.... I may be wrong but I thought 10,000 signatures would need to be obtained within a 6 month period for it to be considered. cheers, steve
  21. I was having trouble accessing pages on the BBC earlier.... started to wonder if there's a virus hitting servers. cheers, steve
  22. Hey, you fixed it! Can I be boring and ask a geeky question? Wot was it?
  23. Happening to me too, on an iPad2. Maybe Arbtalk has been hacked by an anonymoose for cutting so many trees down?....
  24. I thought the programme was a bit boring. I tend to find TV is generally boring rubbish. Maybe should setup a spoon carving club or something.
  25. p.s.... ref: waterproofness.... I've been looking for proper waterproof rigger boots and noted Hoggs have nice looking leather riggers called 'Aquasafe' and they are described as being fully waterproof. So I emailed them to find out if my feet would still be dry if I stood in a brook for half an hour.... and here's the answer "Our Aquasafe rigger boots are fully waterproof and should be ok standing in water for a short period. Our boots are covered by a 1 year warranty if the boots fail." Which beggars a question "Should a boot be described as being "fully waterproof" if they are only "Fully waterproof for a short period". hmmmm
