  1. I just finished a 5 day course with Andy Campbell (Tree and Woodland Services in East Anglia) a great fella (no pun intended). After my 5 days I'm missing the woods like an old girlfriend! I learned so much yet touched only the tip of the iceberg. I had no idea I would find forestry management so interesting I only took the course so I could volunteer with a local social enterprise and maybe go to shows and carve but my eyes have really been opened now. Respect what you carve it's not just a material I know Luke Chapman (Luke Chapman - Woodcarver | Wood Sculptor | Designer) is or will be running chainsaw classes but certification is needed and I would think the same would go for anyone else due to insurance issues.
  2. Not quite what I hoped for but relatively pleased for 1st attempt at a bear. SWWMBO says I'm too hard on myself but in my view if you have a picture of something you SHOULD be able to copy it (I cant yet). You fantasy carvers out there blow my mind with your skills!!! I almost forgot to add, no chisel was used in making this bear only MS260 for roughing out then MS150 for detail. A light sanding on the nose area with flap disc in grinder. 2 holes in hooter with drill and a 16mm spade bit to make the holes for eyes. My 1st proper all chainsaw carving to
  3. He has a bit of a crack a going on!
  4. Love that 1st coon
  5. My 1st bear standing 32" in total. Still plenty of work to do on it and I have not decided on a finish, I would like to use something natural. 1st I roughed it out with the MS260 then went in with the MS150.
  6. It was just an idea, I'm currently using a MS150 with standard bar/chain for carving but have access to a MS200T that I could convert as long as I can still put it back again. As the 200 appears to be the carvers choice I wanted to try one but TBH I'm getting on well with my 150
  7. Thanks everyone for your input mind mad up now to leave alone Pat, maybe you have my next saw
  8. I have never had the 2 side by side but is it possible to convert a top handle to rear? Cost affective if you already have a top handle?
  9. Unfortunately I think you will find 3 to be a problem. You need at least 10 of the little tender ones to make a meal
  10. I have just seen this thread for the 1st time and am in awe of your work. I dont dare to aspire to your quality and talent but it's a direction for us to aim in. Outstanding
  11. They sell sprickets in South Africa I believe
  12. I have only cut not carved oak but it was a little tough and will dull your chain. Seems a shame to use oak for mushrooms Prone to splitting.
  13. Ahhhhhhhhh yes bring back the 'dunking chair' for village ponds and witch like ex wives
  14. The .pdf file says "*WARNING: Failure to use this chain on bars with nose radii of 12mm or smaller can result in severe kickback". No good on the standard rollmatic bar then I still dont like loose chains.
  15. I'm finding it vibrating less as it runs in I've probably only had a gallon through it so far but everything is freeing up nicely. One issue though is the fuel pick up, it's static non clunk so at (cant remember what angle) some angles the carb will be starved and engine will cut I have been using the cheap Jonsered chainsaw gloves @ £10.00 lh protection only, sewn the elasticated wrist over double and they are ok for what I'm doing although they have no av like I said saw is getting smoother as it ages.
  16. A carving holiday..... hmmmmmmmm............... worth hooking up the caravan and a 4 hour drive
  17. Rear handle, bit naughty carving in a tree
  18. The MS150 seems a reasonable option. I have one and like it and have now heard of several others using it and preferring it to their old saw. That is to say with the standard bar and chain which DOES NOT need to be run slack although has a slightly larger radius tip.
  19. Bit far to cycle from Norfolk!
  20. What's this all about then? Being new to this wood butchering lark I'm unaware of events, locations etc
