1. update on Craftinsurance: I called just a moment ago and a Lantra Cert of Attendance in their eyes is a cert of maintenance and basic use competence and they will insure you upon it. I'm now insured 12months for £71 which enables me to carve in a public place.
2. just filled out the online quote: https://quote.craftinsurance.co.uk/crafts/assumptions.aspx and nowhere did it ask if I was competent or have any certifications or experience.
3. ref insurance, is a Lantra "cert of attendance" in maintenance, cross cut. felling and processing sufficient to get insurance for carving?
4. will worry about money if you like em Now if he is to chunky that means there is material that can be removed to your liking so rather than being chunky in your eyes it's just not quite finished yet. I think it looks pretty damn good.
5. What dont you like? p.s. finally got round to posting eye burning tools today
6. Hi Ray I have made the 10 and 16mm tools up. Email over your addy and I will send em to you and you can give an honest evaluation If you like em you pay if you dont like no pay.
7.
Hiya Ray, how about I send the tools to you and if you like em then you pay <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/smile.png" alt=":)" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

8. Totally inappropriate but............... Do you think the Vicar had a tourette's moment at the font?
9. I have tried several variations and for slow speed to increase friction I found they work best with no cutting edge or relief for burned waste dust just a straight forward cup on a shaft. Pretty much the same for high speed, they will work in a drill with plenty of pressure, I will try and take a picture using the same tool at high speed die grinder type tool and drill. I could knock a few up for sale at £10 each inc post if I can find up some suitable bolts........ materials are an issue for me.
10. I'm going to speak to a local farmer and see if he will sell me a bit of land he does not use, it's in walking distance of home. Nuisance complaint and audio monitoring done
11. Finally got round to making up a few sizes of eye tools all on a 1/4" shank. I'm also playing about with the idea of iris rings/pupils but TBH a dome seems just as affective to look at. I firstly spun them up using a 240V drill which whilst worked didn't really give the burned look I wanted but then remembered I have a small die grinder type tool in a draw and that works really well.
12. Due to a letter from the council I may also be in the market for an electric saw Failing that my carving days may be over
13. I will stick with it, I think I had the chain a little to loose as it was kinda folding over the bar when planing on the side. Also I may be running it to slow, I keep the revs down due to a neighbor and this carving chain does not appear to like the very low revs as the standard 150 chain does. I will stay with it, it can only be me at fault as so many proper carvers use this chain.
14. Still getting used to the new combo and still not sure what I think. I prefer my 150 set up for the narrow cut and ability to run the chain tensioned correctly rather than slack.
15. Glad the pictures helped, top job Yours turned out much better than mine Not sure I like the adder!
16. Got the bar/chain/sprocket today was was surprised it's not a lot smaller than the standard MS150 micro chain bar for tip radius. I put it all together and did a little carving with it, using it on the side is really nice but in the cut is very slow compared to my 150 standard set up making it feel blunt.
17. Thank you gents I have a bar etc on order from Rob: Oregon carving full feature 1/4 .050 68 drive links Sugi light type dime tip 12" 1/4 .050 68 drive links Stihl spur sprocket 1/4 x8 tooth £40 for a new side case may have to wait especially if the one on it works and it's an aesthetic issue. That hens teeth picture BTW was just wrong! funny but wrong.
18. I have been looking on Ebay for a side but cant see one new or old
19. Sounds like you did well with the 180. The MS200 I just got is a good deal for a 200 but not cheap. £147 inc delivery with no bar or chain or fuel cap. I was not to worried about a bar as I intend to use it for carving only so will be buying a ??? whatever bar and chain. One thing I was surprised about is the amount of compression this little saw has, flippin loads! ref getting a big saw, I have the MS260 as well which is not big but a great saw I wouldn't be without it. I also have the use of a big Husky, cant remember what one off the top of my head but the bar is about 28-30" or more.
20. Saw turned up today badly packed, basically in a box rattling around. It was in a hell of a state with packed in saw dust and oil so I dug it out with screwdriver and blew it with the airline. That took an hour! Took carb apart and could see nothing wrong there even the mesh screen inside was spotless. I reset it to 3/4 on top end.......... or fully open with that stupid restricter thing and 1 turn on the L jet. I washed out the tank with petrol reset the knackered looking plug and fired it up. After a fettle with the L screw/jet it idles perfect and revs like a goodun Oil pump is working to. Just need that carving bar and chain now The plastic side thingy that holds all the brake gubbens is slightly warped but the brake still works fine.
21. The thought of what can happen if things go wrong keep me honest in what I'm doing. I constantly have it in my mind about what I'm doing and how I can reduce the risks. To easy to get so involved in a carve, the form etc and not take note of the speeding chisels.
22. I'm sure the subject has been touched many times before but feel it's something we should be reminded of from time to time. Just Google 'chainsaw accident' and go to the 'images' tab.
23. Thanks chaps, it was me that asked him if it were seized etc and he just answered my questions. I should have my mits on it by Wednesday so will be able to say more then. I think 1st thing to do it have the plug out and feel how it turns over, remove exhaust and see what the piston looks like. If it's anything like my MS260 I also got from Ebay as running it's boogered! That did run and revved like a goodun even though the piston was hitting the top of the pot which bent the piston and nipped up the top ring! Boer was ok so a new OEM piston and ring and it's superb. fingers crossed that's worst case scenario with the 200. ref 12" rather than 10" carving bar........ is that purely for reach? I have only used my 150 with a 10" standard bar so far and have been able to reach most things I want. Is there a great deal of difference in control between 10 and 12"?
24. I'm taking a big chance buying from Ebay. I asked for details and the reply was "Hi there , the saw has not been started in a year , it had not seized , but ran poorly , hope this helps" so fingers crossed it's a fuel issue but it could be anything. I have sent a message to Rob D for advice on Chain and bar. I guess 10" dime of some sort but I know nothing at all about carving bars. Still on the look out for the politician but rather than hens teeth more like rocking horse sheet.
