  1. Hi Will, I am using Ronseal Natural decking oil at the moment. It does turn the wood a bit yellow but pretty much anything will I believe. Here is my offering of barn owl which is fighting me all the way grrrrrrrrrrr Still some way to go on it yet.
  2. How about gently scorch the upper surface just brown not black then clear decking oil? I wouldn't worry about being green, the quicker you get oil on it the less likely it is to split etc. BTW you have inspired me to carve one myself I hope I can get half way near as good yours is.
  3. Nice job, what wood is it and what finish will you be putting on Will?
  4. Anyone know of anywhere in the UK that stocks the Rockwell JawHorse or anything similar?
  5. I carved a copper beech recently, I told the customer it wont last forever but they said go ahead anyway. Photo gallery: Fallen tree at Earlham Arms pub in Norwich is given new life as sculpture - News - Eastern Daily Press
  6. Well now I have 2 die grinders! a 110V Bosch GGS7 (2nd hand) and yesterday I walked into cash converters and saw a 2nd hand 240V Metabo GE700 which has variable speed, £50 and it's superb!!! Selling the Bosch now
  7. Sugi bars are good I use a 12" on my MS200. Your 261 is perfect for blocking out and basic carving but you would need something a little more manoeuvrable in my opinion to finish. A Stihl MS150 I find a good reasonably priced saw for finish even with the 10" standard bar it comes with. Recently I bought a Echo CS-280WES with a 8" cannon bar, great price and very accurate. All my saws run on Aspen fuel now.
  8. Not very exciting seeing a picture but here it is Now the 150 has bedded in after a few gallons through it the vibrations have reduced and throttle response is great. I'm now running all my saws on Aspen and the 150 likes it.
  9. Love the composition
  10. Just put a 8" cannon dime bar on my Stihl MS150 and it feels good
  11. Yes agreed however.................. it's a long story and not for public forum. Thanks chaps for all your input
  12. The chairman of the parish council is his mate so no chance. I need legal facts to present not best practice or advisory type stuff.
  13. It's was on public land maintained by the council.
  14. hmmmmm an individual that took it upon himself to use his chainsaw to cut fallen wood in a public place for his own gains (the wood). An argument could be made that it was being done free of charge for the community to clear said branch.
  15. An individual using a chainsaw (as OP) for personal use or possibly seen as a volunteer but for the community rather than employer.
  16. I interested in the legal perspective.
  17. Just out of interest how would an individual stand in the eyes of the law if he/her used a chainsaw without suitable PPE, without insurance or training in a public place with no warning signs etc?
  18. But but but........................... good price At the moment I do fine detail with a chisel, basic sanding and tight spots with a Makita belt sander. I have not seen a long nosed die grinder new or 2nd hand at what I would like to pay anywhere
  19. My die grinder died and I'm considering replacing it with a cheap Ebay die grinder type tool: 100170 Hand Held Variable Speed Electric Engraving Carving Die Grinder 6MM Chuck | eBay I know it wont do what a proper grinder would and may die young but anyone tried one?
  20. I'd rather the bugger didn't break in the first place
  21. I have the Makita 9032 with 9mm belt, never used any attachment though and don't know what is available for it other than wider belts.
  22. I like it, nice use of the natural shape of the tree.
  23. I run the Sugi Hara 12" bar on my MS200 with a 14" Stihl RMS 1/4" carving chain 68 DL. Lube is standard Stihl set so my lube tank runs out just after fuel and I have noticed no blackness and my tip does not overheat. Possible oil issue?
  24. Darryl, PM your details and I will forward them on with tothers received.
