  1. Have you tried asking any of the local authorities or parks about volunteer work?
  2. I used stihl loppers, had them for 5 years before I lost it Brilliant pair, as long as you look after it, sharpen it and oil it (wd40) it will stay im good shape for ages
  3. I usually go for jan/feb for planting, partly for work schedule but also had good experiences planting that time of year
  4. The L6 does seem to be very subject specific whereas the BSc is more broad. The L6 is basically aimed at those who want to be consultants or be managers
  5. I've been debating between the two also; when I did the FdSc I really struggled with the research methods and wasn't as interested in the less job specific aspects which the BSc would involve quite heavily. For me personally and more 'job specific' people I think the L6 is the way to go; if it isn't recognised by the ICF it will be sooner rather than later as from what I've heard from others in the industry that it is held in high regard and very intense and thorough and could be the new industry standard. Email TreeLife and they'll send the course content which is really good.
  6. I don't know the logistics involved with getting it started but does anyone think that establishing a moderated 'arbtalk approved instructor' system is set up. If there isn't one already. I could personally recommend a couple of instructors I went with and not recommend another that I trained with and I imagine everyone involved with this forum has instructors that they would happily recommend and then have a list of Instructors that could easily be accessed, if that makes sense.
  7. Thanks for all the advice. I went to view it yesterday and is often the case it was very different than described over the phone. Basically what was described as a hedge that has been hacked down is actually a shrub (Elaeagnus x ebbingei) that has been cut back to bare stems on one side. It is along a shared access driveway, which belongs to the people who contacted me, that the neighbour cut back as he believed it was damaging his van. Luckily the other neighbour filmed the whole thing, so the act and who is responsible is all on tape. What they wanted from me was advice on what to do with the shrub as they have had quotes from other businesses; one saying to cut it out and remove it and the other was to trim it back regularly but they were convinced it would become diseased; both for a lot of money. My recommendation is to trim the top as standard to encourage bushy side growth, put down some shrub compost to help it along and nurture it back into shape but pointed out that Elaeagnus is planted in urban landscapes because it is very vigorous and hardy and can tolerate being hacked, van drivers crashing into it etc... All they want from me is some advice and a quote which i'm happy to do but thanks for all the advice
  8. Maybe wrong size, they fit quite snugly on me but very comfortable. Fantastic trousers, much lighter and nicer to wear than hi-flexes. There becoming more and more popular these days as well And they're bright green!!
  9. Thanks, I am qualified and insured for writing reports but not been involved in a dispute before where one party wants to take the other to court. I don't think going to court would benefit anyone as it will be long and drawn out and the courts wont want arguing neighbours.
  10. I have been using one for a few years, I'm not a regular or vastly experienced climber and haven't used a wide range of harnesses but I love the treemotion, very comfortable and feel safe and secured using it and would buy another if I need to
  11. Morus alba 'pendula' if it is I did think for a minute that it could be a variety of Acer davidii but think most likely Morus
  12. At the weekend I'm off to look at a hedge that has been reduced badly by the owners neighbour without permission. I need to give an assessment and advice on the condition of the hedge; what do with it and what can be done with regards to potentially taking the neighbour to court (still at the early emotional stage). I haven't seen the hedge yet or even know the species so I can't offer up any more details yet on that front but I wondered if any body here has any experience with these neighbour and hedge disputes and has any advice. At the very basic level it's a case of vandalism but it's not in a conservation area so I'm not sure what can be done. Thanks
  13. From what I've seen the cs100 seems like the top choice on here of the small chippers, does anyone know how it compares to the tw 18/100G??
  14. Hi, I'm hoping this is the right forum to be posting this in, not too sure. I've been working for myself for about a year and half now and have been keeping all my equipment in my parents garage. Mostly due to security and my parents wanting their garage back im looking for somewhere else to locate my kit to. Im based in Bedford and wondered if anybody in the area knows of any good places to rent or any forum members in general know what to look for, ideally I would be looking for a farm where I can rent a container and have space for a trailer, log and chip piles and somewhere to burn off green waste. If anybody has any advice or recommendations it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Greg (Betula)
  15. I've had a couple call me up, so far has been advertising work for school contracts and for sick kids. I called the local trading standards and they said the scammers claim to have evidence of you saying yes and claim they will sue you if you dont pay. All scare tactics. The genuine advertisers don't need to be cold calling as they usually get enough interest from the local area
  16. i have a tree motion and sometimes it hardly feels like your wearing a harness, dont know much about skylotec tho
  17. Betula

    PTS course

Who did you do the PTS through? I had heard before that you have to be sponsered by a rail company to go through the course but i'm not too sure how true that is
  18. Tree Surgeon/Gardener/Occasional Chainsaw Carver/Forklift Driver (different job)
