  1. Timely post - on Monday i had a Hawthorn in the side of my finger right by the joint, pulled it out and that night complained to her ladyship about pain who promptly told me to HTFU. By Tuesday morning it was a large lump and painful but i couldn't see anything. Having just read that link i reached for the nail clippers and cut my finger open to find (very deep) the tip of the thorn - 1/8" long! Popped it out and let it have a good bleed to wash it out, let's see how it goes:biggrin:
  2. Yes, rabbit is getting closer. I thought it was quite clearly a bull mastiff meerkat bunny rabbit type thingy as well. Damn site better than i could ever do though:thumbup1:
  3. Thanks guys, Out of three companies i emailed last night only one has come back with a quote and in fairness to them until i have the others i won't say what it is, but they've itemised for multiphase drawings and timings which apparently LA's usually ask for and said it can take up to three weeks to go through (because it's multiphase). Regards, Steve.
  4. Evening all, Just looked at a job which is leaning heavily across a very busy road - 60mph artics in both directions and it's a 'T' junction. I'm looking at hiring in TM for the day (probably only need them for about 4 hours) with 3 way lights and a man on site as we'll need them held on red a couple of times. While i find out local companies (job is by Cardiff Airport) and sort out emails and quotes, what sort of figure should i be expecting? Many thanks, Steve.
  5. Many thanks Chris, looks like i'll go for the petrol 12T then (two speed) just as soon as i can bring myself to part with Jim's old Gloria:sad: Regards, Steve.
  6. Sorry for the derail, at what point does 'big tonnage' start? Would i struggle with 12T for arb waste? Looking at the Riko/Balfor one. Many thanks, Steve.
  7. 25" but mostly 36" and no issues here. Peter, what make is your 42" that fits the Stihl mount please?
  8. I've got the Stihl one and dropped a Western Red Cedar the other day. As it hit the floor the lowest 4' section measured 18% top end and 21% base:confused1: The Ash in the yard from March is also 20%, at £15 i guess you get what you pay for.
  9. 205R16 99P Kingpin Hilander Tyres order online from Tyres Direct That's more like it
  10. Many thanks Mark, they ring a bell. Found these while searching 195/75R16 Malatesta Mud & Snow (remould) order online from Tyres Direct
  11. Help please guys... A while ago there was a thread, not even sure what it was about, but someone had fitted some serious tyres to the rear end of a tipper and said where they got them. I've searched but can't find it. Can anyone link to the thread or the tyres in question please? Many thanks, Steve.
  12. 3l 140bhp double cab. 6m3 chip box. Pulls like a train and I'm glad i waited for the bigger engine, but it makes it too easy to overload (not that i ever do......) It's not just the load you're carrying, it's the chipper too don't forget. Regards, Steve.
  13. Makes sense. Have tried pulling right into the SJ but unless there's tail weight it's just too fat and lardy:001_smile: Nice tip with the wrap though:thumbup1:
  14. Looking for a self employed climber for a few odd days in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan as i've bust my arm and all the usual suspects are fully booked. I can climb in an emergency (rescue cover) but i'm trying to rest it. Mixture of reductions and dismantles. I provide everything you just need to turn up and walk the walk:biggrin: Pm, phone or text on 07734 943570 (i'm in hospital tomorrow morning) or email [email protected] Many thanks, Steve.
  15. Hi all, Getting used to the SJ (2.1 Dyneema) but am having trouble with the 13mm Yale XTC Spearmint self tending. I even had to take it apart to fit it as the plastic wrap on the tail end wouldn't pass through. Got my first trouser darkening moment whilst chogging down a stem and the lever got knocked by the block sling:scared:(was warned to expect that) So, what rope works best with the SJ? I'm guessing something like the 11.7mm Blue Tongue. What works for you? Regards, Steve.
  16. I feel your pain Steve....six months ago a 9" gave up the ghost with the last 4 x 70' connies to go. Oh how we love snedding, but she did us proud:thumbup1: Yes i did hear about the little GM jolly 'chez Vous' when i phoned up about mine:001_rolleyes: Another job looked at today that i think has made my mind up - She has to stay. Regards, Steve.
  17. Sorry all, busy evening. The drum and blades were replaced after the blade bed welds split as they did on a certain batch - Greenmech were good as gold on this - the bearings were replaced as one ended up being cut off. The two belts i replaced for good maintenance so they were the only things to cost me (the princely sum of £4.99 each). If i save for a splitter i'll get one. If i sell her for a splitter i'll never save to replace her and rue the day i sold. Business sense says keep her and hire in a processor for a day or two, but this is at odds (as ever) with the lust for more new toys:biggrin:
  18. I like toys:biggrin: My need for a splitter is greater at the moment, but i know i'll regret it the day i sell.
  19. Every time i go to sell the Wee Greeny i look at a job i can barely do without her........... Sometimes it would be just a case of an extra dragger to get to a bigger machine, however a recent enclosed courtyard in the middle of town saw her stripped to an engine, carted through a Bank on a sack truck and rebuilt. Yesterday went to list on Fleabay then looked at a job she'd be ideal for:sneaky2: With a new drum and blades, bearings and belts she should fetch £3000 all day long and i can get a nice log splitter for that:thumbup1: Trailer would be extra as i could mod it for the splitter. So do i keep or sell?
  20. Vale of Glamorgan, this company bales them but not if they're from a farm.
  21. I saw that program too! Just been quoted (if i deliver them): Car & Van £0.75 Truck £7.50 Agri Front £15 Agri Rear £25 Rates apparently are higher as they may have been used for silage covering. Anyone building a tyre house:001_rolleyes:
  22. Thanks all, will look into these. Regards, Steve.
  23. Of all the words to spell strangely................PHONETIC
  24. I need to get rid of a lot of old tyres (car/van/possibly lorry and a few tractor), a good lorry load at least. Is there anyone who collects them for free or receives them for free or is it a case of paying and if so a rough guide to prices please. South Wales area if that makes a difference. Regards, Steve.
