  1. Hi all, I'm after some advice please. A customer wants a 15ish foot Cedar which blew over to approx 45 degrees uprighted. I've found a bespoke guying system from platypus, has anyone used them and if so any tips. Also are there any other cheaper suppliers that anyone could recommend? Thanks in advance

  4. Beware NFU! I was with them for years with no problems, very good company when making a claim. But, they reduced my maximum tree height limit to 6m without specifically bringing it to my attention on renewal (it was in the teeny weeny small print, who reads that?) I'd love to base my business on 6m trees, but I live in the real world so I binned them in favour of Trust insurance. Cheaper and no height restriction.
  5. Was at Chepstow castle looking over the same view on Wednesday. On holiday for a week with my wife and little ones. Forgotten how beautiful the Wye Valley and the Forest is.
  6. My Jensen blades have to be 310NM, now that is tight. I whizz down the local garage and he nips them up for me. As for a decent torque wrench that go's this high is £150 plus.
  7. All seen, thanks. I want one!!

What are your thoughts on the PS 9010 compared to more main stream saws? How long ago did you buy it and what sort of money would you guess at the moment I should expect to shell out?

Hi all, I'm in the market for a new big saw, I have had a Dolmar Ps6400 for nearly 12 years now and its still a cracker but only runs a 24" bar and it struggles in some rough stuff. I've been looking at a Stihl 660 with a 30" or 36", does anyone know if there is a Dolmar of equivalent size? If there is, where would I get my hands on one, hopefully in the UK?
  13. Traffic Management. At a guess?
  14. Out with my baby tirfor on Saturday and on winching in, the handle wasn't going through its full range of movement. Still worked as expected but only half the amount of movement. Anyone know the reason and have a possible solution for me please? Thanks in advance for any replies.
  15. 1.Wash them off with wet cloth. 2.Fill them with newspaper scrunched into tight balls. 3.Rub Nikwax liquid dubbing into them (can be rubbed in even when leather is wet). 4.leave overnight away from direct source of heat. 5.Remove paper in the morning, hey presto dry waterproof boots. Or, ignore the above and have 2 pairs.
  16. Hear hear.

the main dealers are the same thing, not the saws. Clearly Dolmars are red and Makitas are blue.

Find any Makita main dealers, they are one and the same thing.
  19. Happy new year everyone, I recently bought a 2nd hand 2004 A530 750kg chipper. Cracking bit of kit. The top roller has a cable and spring tensioner, here is the problem. The guy I bought it from told me the cable gives up every so often and gave me a spare which he had had made up. I've been to Redwoods and they sell the replacement cable, and have told me its a design problem and to keep it greased. Fitting the new one is neither dificult nor overly expensive (if not too often!) I've thought about getting a plasma rope made up with 2 spliced eyes as a replacement for a cable. I know this would be more expensive than the cable, but in theory should be better in the long run. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Would plasma rope be any better or should I just get the Redwoods cable? Thanks in advance guys, I look forward to your comments.
