I do split some of the bigger stuff first, the splitter takes up to 20". Much bigger diameter than that just pushes the plastic cups out of shape. Sometimes it's just best to cut the bigger stuff on the ground !

I'd certainly recommend the Truncator, if your cutting timber 6" diameter or less.

I have a Balfor petrol powered A9 Vario, which i would recommend. Great for dealing with arbwaste, multi position means big rings can be broken up on the deck. Had this for several years and not been many knotty chunks it hasn't gone through !!

I take it they are in short lengths, why not offer for sale to be collected from the wood, rather than the hassle of recouping cost of moving yourself. As others have said great firewood, seasons quick,very little ash left, don't know why so many folk turn there nose up at it. -
Hi Andrew, i'd be interested, but had a quiet winter and still got plenty of timber left and no more room for anymore at the moment.

With a driver in my experience they will charge for the day even if job only takes a couple of hours

If it was me i would go for Yew Eleagnus makes a good hedge what about Laurel or Photinia?

Only had mine since February, but would recomend Balfor's Vario, from Riko. Only a 9ton, around 100kg.

All good here. A few are still a bit sparse, but nothing to do with dieback. Never known them to have been that late before.

As others have said,they were very late coming into leaf in this area too,and still not fully in leaf. All seemed healthy up until autumn.

Thats interesting,could never understand why they offer bigger engines in other parts of the world and not in the uk. At 200k yours is just run in:001_smile:,what year and colour is it?

I would use old telegraph poles, used to be able to get them from a company at Rudgwick. Try Beacon fencing, don't think they stock them but they might be able to source for you. For chestnut,try cgw chestnut. Think they are in Midhurst area. Failing that a reclaimed materials yard or landscape supplies company. Let us know how you get on. -
Thanks for the replies,keep them coming good or bad. Appreciate the comparison with the Huskys, but having been a Stihl user for 30 years, i am unlikely to switch. I am replacing my ageing 025, so also considering the ms251 and ms241.

Was considering getting an Ms261 c m, but the dealer advised against due to problems with earlier models. I did a search on here and read all the problems you guys have had with them. I just wondered if the issues have been resolved with this latest version ?

With the Kango version,9 times out of 10 the crown wheel and pinion goes on them, so my hire shop once told me. Quite often see them on ebay described as motor runs but doesn't break concrete.

Your return will depend what trees and age of the trees you have i guess, our 8 acres provides a small amount of firewood each year. Shame i couldn't persuade my dad to buy the adjoining 35 acres when it was on the market around 1990 for between £1000 and £1500 an acre, woodland in this area is around £10,000 an acre now. So long term it will gain in value, like buying a house and letting it, probably with less hassles and maintainance:001_smile:

Hondas are brilliant mowers, that does sound cheap at £200. They do suffer w ith gearbox problems though, if you try it and it makes a lot of clicking noises on engaging drive be cautious. I have replaced mine with a Hayter,which is chain driven, less to go wrong i hope !

Been offered a small amount of Birch cordwood part seasoned that is lying in small stacks in the wood, on a self collect basis. It is in diameters up to 6 inches. Just wondered what a fair price would be per cubic metre or by the cord.
