  1. Well, whilst I've come to the conclusion that the Germans are a very anal and precise nation (order anything labeled assembly and you will see!), the Swedish are completely mental! I ordered a crankcase assembly labeled as 'complete', this turned out to be 2 crankcase halves, bearings (fitted), ONE oil seal (fitted), locating lug for the chainbrake (fitted), bar studs (fitted), chain oil breather (fitted), ring for the brake arm (fitted), 3 screws for a generator (XPG), 2 casing lugs and the holder for the spring that stops the brake arm flopping around. This doesn't sound very complete, it doesn't make much sense either!
  2. Yes! Most definitely!
  3. +1, a buggered big end makes a right noise, similar to kicking a saw over with no muffler, only angrier
  4. It's ok, I only have to outrun you
  5. Not fast enough to escape a deer running on 5 legs!
  6. I don't think the arbtalk community would be so appreciative of the choice of stripper, on the other hand, I suppose it may attract some red bucks during the rut
  7. Where are you gonna find the strippers? Although I wouldn't think you'd have much difficulty if you went into Glasgow with a bag of chips and some smack! I'll open a saw repair shop on my patch, I'll make even more money knowing how the arbtalk community likes to wreck saws. If rob d joins in, we're sorted!
  8. I would be surprised if you couldn't buy a share or stake of a company as a silent share holder, especially if you had something of value to offer
  9. You have several acres of woodland in your yard?
  10. So one company would turn down billions so the other company (with superior emissions tech) could provide continuation of the brand upon purchase? Despite the companies purchased by husky still continuing to design and produce saws, of which are used by all the other companies (see 543xp, 236 and quite a few other huskies)
  11. Log cabin! No planning needed, we're working the woodland!
  12. Maybe, but my local tree officer is nothing like that, he collects saws, and once he's back off his holiday I'm working on his 090! Oh, and he's on here, as I discovered once after mocking him on here (unknowingly) to have him appear at my place of employment 2 weeks later.
  13. I doubt that very much, there are no requirements or sanctions that can make a company share patents to avoid a monopoly of the market, besides Stihl could have used the 4-mix design. I would imagine there's a very large monetary gain for sharing of the tech if husky aren't at least a share holder
  14. Wall island, just off the a38
  15. Take it to a dealer, it's either an air leak or faulty carb. Don't use it until it's fixed!
  16. Are you charging £150 a load of chip or buying it for £150? Because there's a tip site in Lichfield that takes it for free.
  17. Well, there was talk of husky purchasing Stihl in 2006, there were talks, negotiations and then NOTHING! But Stihl suddenly launches new models of saws with a shed-load of husky patents? I would go as far as saying husky could be a major share holders, as they would never be able to buy Stihl until makita/dolmar or echo had a significant market share
  18. So why do husky own the patent? You also forget, the 576 was the first autotune saw, using the same tech as what the Stihls currently do. The 560 was the new type of autotune.
  19. But what if I want to fell my 3 acres of woodland? If we land share, that means we have to decide which trees in 2400 acres are to be felled, I'm not carrying a saw a mile to the next tree!
  20. Yes, it is covered, email the tree officer of your intention, he will probably tell you to get on with it and not bother in future, but at least you will have a cover note for the future, it's best NOT to piss a tree officer off by ignoring the rules. I have to deal with tree officers every day, it's very tedious BUT I'd rather have a good relationship with them than having them say no when it's a big job!
  21. What? The stuff that Stihl rents? Stratified charge (2-mix), centrifugal filtration (Stihl don't advertise that bit of tech), spring av, the e-carbs, in return husky get cheap zama carbs and the elasto-start thing on the 540. Husky have patented the stuffers, so they won't appear in any stock saw until they invent some other gizmo
  22. I wouldn't imagine there are any loopholes for strato, the centrifugal filtering or any of the other patented 2-stroke designs
  23. By borrow, I mean paying large amounts of money to have the privilege. And no, dolmar made a chainsaw, it used scratcher tooth chain, everything then on was a development from a massive, clumsy and expensive machine. Hand-chain saws had been developed long before, as had the revolving chain saw, as had powered saws, dolmar just combined them. He wasn't much further ahead in design to Stihl, both released their model A in 1927
  24. What does make me smile about the 'Dolmar is better than husqvarna' statement is: Centrifugal air cleaning (jonsered patent) Lower emissions - strato engine (zenoah patent) Spring av (can't remember which husky owned company it's from) Mpi technology (e-carb) (husky patent) Easy start (Stihl elasto-start) That's an awfully large amount of borrowed tech! It pretty much leaves the dogs and casings as their own
  25. Why didn't you use the husky equivalent parts? The 281 and 288 pistons are the same, in 52 and 54mm respectively, although all technical data says the 2083 is 52mm and the 066 is 54mm
