  1. something a bit different, looks amazing, thought it was worth posting. MARLOW VIPER V12 Vectran 8mm 900mm prussic Arborists, tree surgeons and climbers | eBay
  2. I have recently noticed how great a piece of 'dead lion tailed oak' burns. Is there any other species that holds onto dead wood like an oak? Its the only firewood I want these days (personal supply )
  3. I spoke directly to the TO, prior to knowing the the full details of what happened, I pushed my skills in front of the others from a science point. When the TO said what they did, they also put a defence in place. If anybody has ever challenged a council employee, will know the score, one minute your dealing with the individual....the next you have the might of the whole council to deal with. Let sleeping dogs lie.
  4. I was doing all the paperwork on a private job, applied for the TPO etc. The TO went the property, 5 trees to reduce and 3 the fell, while there (the TO) spent most of the visit trying to steer my client towards another local private contractor who works fulltime for the council. now tell me folks.....why would someone do that? unless there was money involved...
  5. council get backhanders....I know of 3 councils by me that do. one got sussed 4yrs ago, and the director resigned before it hit the fan. Don't bother with them, they know how to bankrupt businesses in one foul swoop.
  6. OP, are you talking about climbing or lowering? The climber use's a cambium or pulley saver, and then puts a rigging pulley on another high point. Thats how its done.
  7. just put it on your own personal page:confused1: why look to pay for things that you can use word of mouth to do for free.
  8. just ask the seller, fees a 10% on ebay....he might sell one cheaper.
  9. the rings are stainless with a minimum 800kgs breaking strain, so i think your using a weak one. the sailing shackles are bomb proof, so again the ones you have use must be poor quality.
  10. facebook works, but its very hit or miss. if you post a leaflet type picture and tag all your friends, its a good way to generate 20>50 comments and you get 15 enquiries on average. keep the leaflet up on your page, and join local groups and tag it with the groups name. This method works, and has given 30 jobs in 5months and a fulltime contract from a local estate agent. Good luck to everyone who gives this a try.
  11. 3 more have just been listed.... FRICTION PULLEY SAVER, DMM Pinto Ocean Polyester - Tree Surgeons Arborists | eBay
  12. the sailing clip can cope with any diameter.
  13. yes its one handed, you pull the pin then put your your rope in and just close your hand around it and it closes automatically, rings are so much better, easy through the pulley and very strong when needed if in trouble.
  14. These are what I use. No point over complicating things with that snap in my opinion. its not complicated, just looks more but its easy, and its a one handed affair, and i bet your still using a ball for recovery.
  15. because its 'flash' - its slow to load, try and do it in standard html.
  16. An ISC swing cheek will take up to 14mm if you wanted. Its the best value as its more tough than the petzls. look on ebay for 'arborists' bits in the climbing section, there are always some new shiny bargains.
  17. and it gets recovered using this ring, again its very strong and works everytime, supplied with the friction saver from the seller.
  18. the sailing snap is so much easier and stronger. you just open and snap shut with one hand.
  19. thats what i meant, can imagine someone trying to hard on a lockjack descend and looking for secure footing, one kick and its off... mind you....if the man from the council turns up, he might have something to say....
  20. the sailing snap shackle is the best, drop the chap a line...
  21. clever..... but the banister is going flying soon....nice fire wood, go for open plan styling:lol:
  22. this seller sells a few, they are very well made and worth everypenny. FRICTION PULLEY SAVER, DMM Pinto Ocean Polyester - Tree Surgeons Arborists | eBay
  23. why not just keep your business running? find 2 local SE climbers, and handfull of part time groundie labourers. (pay a day rate) just plan the jobs, and price accordingly - don't stick the low prices, aim high and study sales skills. the boys will be happy with a nice days wage, and you will see the difference working from another angle. believe me....it's a 1000 times better than a struggling building trade.
  24. there is also a trick to fix a pulley to the piece being lowered and fix the free end the remaining spar. halves the weight.
