  1. Its a heat gun, like a paint stripping one, to prove that heat at a higher degree than friction does little damage - unless you can tell me the temp friction is? You have not used dyneema, I have and dropped heavy blocks with no change to the sling in anyway.
  2. I knocked up this short video, it shows amsteel dyneema 11mm 12 strand, being subjected to 300c and 600c via a heat gun. As you can see there is hardly any change at 300c. [ame] [/ame]
  3. Good point, did not realise it was done for effect.
  4. one for the heat/friction analysts.... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CQDX4Tac1s&feature=related]Dyneema Body Armor Shot Testing - YouTube[/ame]
  5. Good points Nod, true about the video, I will never tie a knot in dyneema, that why all mine is spliced, the main factor in understanding dyneema (please don't take the DMM sling test as the be all) the fibres when manufactured are very long chains, and serves to transfer load more effectively to the polymer backbone by strengthening intermolecular interactions. (wiki!) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fUIZnNcLvI]Dyneema - YouTube[/ame]
  6. I don't that video is right from all perpectives, plus the break was on a knot on one of the examples.
  7. No takers then? The dmm link is about woven slings, i'm talking about 12 strand 11mm amsteel which is 12.5 ton MBS. Spliced it is 8ton or there abouts, call it 5 if you like...... give it a go and find out.....
  8. depends what you want to, a welsh pony could be just more fun and do great job. They are only £30 at market.
  9. whatever it maybe, lowering, towing, dragging, lifting...., but setting fire to it as your towing a tractor is not acceptable:lol: peter, its yours for the battering, pm me
  10. So here's the challenge..... I am happy to supply 11mm Dyneema and if someone wants to test it against Tenex or similar. I don't mind having egg on face, I would just like to see if its true what the critics say. The dyneema would be free of charge, and I would like to see video evidence.
  11. try it first and find out how it performs, do not be blinkered
  12. I use it for top anchor pulleys, cambium savers and flying capstan. keeping most of simple, not bungee jumping logs for fun This one is a cambium saver, the eye end is to leave all your options open, you can have any number of different attachments or make it adjustable.
  13. The dyneema is best for fixed rigging, when under tension its like steel, it hardly melts at 300c does at 600c, it gets softer in time, but still retains its strength and ability. It is very light, floats and does not absorb water, so there is no change in how it performs. Try it and find out, its great having a 150gram piece of kit that out performs most.
  14. dyneema does work, without personal experience, can anyone comment?
  15. why not go all out, and take on the world wood shredder | eBay
  16. Bit faster [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sr_buf6jw4U]Ong Bak - Trailer - YouTube[/ame]
  17. 'Why? I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's trouble, a man alone. Now they got the whole country sectioned off, you can't make a move without a form'
  18. I was wondering when this query would arise. Put the bight through the large eye, step into the bight, pass it over your head, and back on to the fig 8. Detach or reconfigure the other bits and off you go.
  19. Thanks. The benefit would be that at breaktime I could abseil to my cuppa in record time, plus you have 2 rings so you can have your main line attached to the big ring and your lanyard attached to the small one. I think it just tidy's everything thing up, and helps get to the carabiners more easily when you need to. Rupe - I like the look of the figure 9, have you had any problems with the spike? I take it your using the ISC one.
  20. Please go easy as this is my first post. I put a standard DMM figure eight on my harnass bridge, instead of the standard ring, The small eye is on the bridge so the large eye is free and able to take carabiners without any obstructions. Does anyone think this a good idea?
