  1. cut in hand held sections and throw! then chog the stem down. no need to rig it;)
  2. no! didnt know its a year old, still finding my way around this site. why would thinning be a waste of time? nothing wrong with suggesting that, especially as its a fotie from a thousand odd miles away.
  3. is it true that you should prune mainly the water sprouts on malus (apple) so the tree puts more energy in to fruiting?

  5. would agree with others on this one! thin the crown to reduce the weight and see how it does.also good idea to plant one or two replacements from the same species and yes! get the trunk and cavity inspected for its strength.

  8. possible! i have also taken a few dead ones down in the last couple of years which had beetle gallery formations under the bark, not sure if DED killed them though, or nearby developments.

  13. reduce the weight in the crown! particularly on the side with the decay. pollard it maybe?
