  11. Cheers dude I understand what you mean, easier shapes n lines etc .. Its better and more enjoyable doing this instead of watching it burn thats for sure. Still, keeping busy is another main aim & the smell of the spruce in the back room is fresh (Bringin the outdoor .. in. lol). Might go for an owl next .. jus saw this n was impressed .. Simpler cuts by looks ..
  12. Not as easy as it looks is it dude. When bit more spare fundings about .. (after gettin more kit) .. I'll look into gettin Carving bar, etc .. Had fun doing it so far, so probs take it up as a hobby. Still a good effort on your part mate fair do's.
  13. Thanks Dervish, lol. Got em in size 11 too. lol. First ever crack at carving, didnt draw it out & changed mind about three times during the carv what'd be. Enjoyed it though .. great fun .. wont be rushin into another straight after though. haha

  16. Told you I'll update this & try all your suggestions so .. Ive finally got round to Strippin my Wood.!! In the end I used everyone's methods that commented .. End result was Exactly what I asked for. , So thanks for your suggestions Arbtalkers; Tried & Tested (Yesterday, 4th March) Best methods without Any damage to the Timber: Started by using (Arbercarver's Bar) .. 'well a bird named bar' At each of the log to reduce any damage, aswell as to have starting points ready for.. (Alec's Shovel) Worked Surprisingly Well Thanks Fella.!! .. Got every single bit of the scaled bark off & straight through to the softer, inner skin .. Then found that a seriously sharp Hatchet (WoodWizard's Axe) .. Used like a plane, took it the rest of the way to fresh timber, without any damage what so ever & came off like onion skins, Whole process took about an hour (Maybe too slow to you guys) but im Well pleased with how looking, ready to go now .. First Carv better end up looking half decent or ima look abit red .. after all that. HAHA.!! LOL, Thanks you 3 .. Absolute Gents
  17. Thank You to everyone who has replied .. Quick responses & Contacts are exactly what I was after. Absolute Gents .. Thanks Arbtalkers.!!
  18. Ive been selling Firewood here n there, but would like to know if theres any mills closer to the Newport, Caerphilly, Torfaen / Goytre Areas that dont advertise for obvious reasons.?? Having nice timbers (Oaks n Ash, few Spruces) gettin burnt isnt a habit id like to fall into .. Any contacts .. or numbers .. anything to help be much appreciated. Thanks Arbtalk
  19. Had our page up about 10months now .. Got some likes .. pretty good, but would like to reach 100. Also .. DONT PAY FBOOK to get you more likes as these are Computer Generated, promote in the Ads by all means, just dont pay for more 'likes'. (The accounts arent actually people & are fake.!!!) Fbook's little way of makin even more money.!!, so dont be fooled into gettin 'likes' .. instead, invite people to your page & Share it. Hope this helps new users & ppl thinking of usin Fbook to promote. http://www.facebook.com/HalfhidesTreeServices
  20. Slower than alot of others we have .. to be more accurate its nearer the middle of the range between Coni - Oak .. Sorry for not makin that 100% clearer .. did state was a basic explaination .. but after that theres always a nit picker about
  21. This is a really good example of 'Dry Timber' .. Without repeating what others have said .. Simple explanation: Sycamore is low in .. Sap (which helps 'Bond' timber fibres and makes easier cutting / felling) Trees with Low sap usually have High Water consistency, but in Ash & Syc for example grow much slower, have tighter grain, which in turn has a lower 'Saturation Count' .. Hence 'Dry Timber' .. prone to 'Crack' .. Most simple explanation I can give without posting links etc. Hope it helps understand your 'Why this happend(s)' .. as stated, I do agree with most .. Dry timber .. High Tension
  22. Haha, ryan cant spell 'Own' .. Haha .. Whats tha.?? Onwnwn.???
