  1. Just came across this. https://www.newscientist.com/article/2119595-wood-burners-london-air-pollution-is-just-tip-of-the-iceberg/ Interesting article with this at the end "Burn wood that's just right Burning dry wood with a moisture content of about 20 per cent minimises pollution. But if wood is wetter or drier than that, pollution increases"

  3. It's already blowing a hooly here. Hope tomorrow is not worse
  4. My mistake. In that size they are the same. It's the chain from my MS460 were the Rotatech has less oil carrying mods. Don't get me wrong think your chains offer great value and definitely have a place in the armoury and no need for a refund
  5. Be great if you can make one of the quality of steel Sugihara and Stihl use
  6. Hi Chris. Yes it cant help using hydraulic oil for lube. Always had plans to fit an extra tank and convert to regular bar oil but never get around to it. Also you do one heck of a lot of cuts in a day. Did 19 tonnes recently and lets say the average 8' length weighed 40 kg that would be 4750 cuts in the day making 9" logs. Plus weather your on the old Oregon bar or newer style bar they both wear far quicker than a Sugihara or Stihl bar would.
  7. Brilliantly Hardly ever need to dress them which cant be said for my Oregon bars.
  8. Not going to use one on our processor. I don't mind the chains but they don't carry oil around the bar as well as other chains and so get more bar ware. Have to dress the bar on the Farmi quite enough as it is.
  9. Agreed but not without pollution. Not much of an issue out in the sparsely populated country but in towns? I posted up a stove on another thread and joked how you could use you phone to adjust it but was looking into the US stoves where they have tight regulations on emissions. Look how clean that stove claims to be Catalyst Smart, Ultra-clean Wood Stove - MF Fire "During third-party laboratory testing, the Catalyst achieved 0.2 grams per hour of particulate emissions. This is more than 20 times lower than new, more stringent, EPA emissions regulations and less than half the smoke produced by a single cigarette"
  10. Thanks All Going to give a Metabo a whirl. Always liked the look of their gear so time to try some.
  11. Cut a few for over the years. Not had feedback when customers have bought them well in advance but cant see why they would not crack if they have dried. Have cut baby rings from 3"-4" dried logs that have not cracked through drying but have to pick through a lot to find the few that have not split. These got used for place names for the gusts and looked pretty cool.
  12. I don't know about others but I don't like the perfect look. You know it's been done all by machine and shows no skill just investment. Hand carved lettering stands out and adds character that CNC work simply lacks. Not the easiest skill to learn but not that hard to do a passable job and stands out in an age where more and more work just comes straight from a CNC
  13. Wasn't looking for a large stove just came across this as researching low emission stoves with catalytic filters after reading the issues in London from wood burning. If the emissions are to be believed it's incredibly clean burning.
  14. Should have read your link Bob . Fortunately they were out of stock when I popped in.
  15. Yes was looking at better quality machines. Burnt out a cheapy on it's second outing but bit disappointed with the Dewalt as have had lots of their kit and it's been fine but the grinder has not had a tough life and only halfway through it's first set of brushes Several mentions of Bosch on here so will go see what Toolstation and Screwfix have available. Thanks Chaps
  16. My 4 1/2" Dewalt died yesterday and need a good replacement. Any thoughts
  17. Last time I spoke to him he had left Spectrum Plant as well. He did say what he was up to but cant for the life of me remember what. Hope life is treating you well Jim
  18. [ame] [/ame]Catalyst Smart, Ultra-clean Wood Stove - MF Fire Little bit pricey for me
  19. Our compacts roll bar is larger diameter tubing than scaffold poles and pretty heavy duty judging by the weight of it.
  20. Not surprised. Driving into town the other day on a still cold morning you could see thick smoke hanging in the air. From the looks of it all coming from a couple of chimneys. Still lots of folk burning crappy wet logs on open fires. Put dry logs on a modern stove and from outside you would not a stove was even running.
  21. I read about crime all the time but after 47 years on the planet never been the victim of any crime. Sure it may well be different in the cities but my experience of country living is crime is very rare.
  22. Any thoughts on the MS660 V the 395?
  23. What do you call a long bar Big J? 395 is a fair bit more and it's not going to get a vast amount of work but don't want to chuck money away on a saw thats not up to the job either.
  24. As above really. At present use an MS460 but considering setting that up with a 20" for fast ringing so would then want a gutsy saw for milling and occasional crosscutting. Thanks
