  1. not sure if it's a local deal but Asda are usually quite good for national deals. Bruichladie 10 YO reduced from £34 to £20. Even if you don't drink the dreaded stuff It's fine for a Christmas present. All the best.
  2. That's a bit moss on the log. They're drying fine.
  3. Logs stacked about a month ago and are now growing. Renewable energy at it's best!
  4. A builders bag at 800mm = .52 m3 at £94 a bag = £173 m3. ( think, but could be wrong....just in case seeing how this thread is going!) Could you process it yourself and advertise and use the profit to buy soft wood? Or, just burn it. Cheers
  5. Ah. I find scoring whisky far too difficult. All I can say is that bottle was troughed in a week. (I'm on tablets and not allowed to drink WTF but had a week off). I suppose you're £30 for a normal bottle so the tenner extra is worth it. Very easy drinking.
  6. The Lagavulin 16 yo is superb. A little heavy at times but a nice one to have at the back of the cupboard after a hard day or when the water's been running out the arse of your breeks.
  7. Got to agree about burning dead elm. I love the wee poles that don't need splitting. Great heat from them. I have found that the trunk, even though looking dry, will still have some moisture inside. It'll dry quicker than truely green elm, but still not ready to burn straight away.
  8. Never mind that. I couldn't get past Sam Fox. Must show the wife. Might explain to her why I like big................. Maybe not.
  9. Think I'm using 24 and 36 grit on a soft backing on the grinder. You have to keep it moving but it takes off a lot and doesn't seem to clog up. Seems cheaper than flap discs. Mind you, nothing fancy like the rest of you guys. I'm still on shrooms.
  10. Lucky you! Did my first cut this week as I was a bit impatient. Could have left it another week.
  11. Almost finished! Not all in the one night though. Quite a nice dram. They have an excellent whisky bar there as well. A good chance to buy some really expensive whisky by the dram.
  12. Dry stane dyke with wooden slab top for seats or benches.
  13. That looks brill. Great idea and very nice. The toby cover is very neat. Wish I had seen that before doing my drive!
  14. Have both on today. then the sun came out in the afternoon and it's 12 degrees now outside!
  15. Nice fish and love the seat. That's one hell of a size of pond in your garden. Need a pond that size before I do any fish!
  16.

  17. And I've not copied the first one yet! Looks quite contemporary. Now that the snow has gone (temporarily) I'm hoping to get down for a blether. Cheers
  18. Just my OCD (no criticism) but could you turn round the slates on the side that have the writing on them. I would also go for taller. My first log shed was just 6 foot but not quite tall enough for my head to slip under. Yes, it happened many times!!.... and I had to start wearing a tammy to get logs. Good effort for £150 though.
  19. Maybe we're jumping to conclusions! There might be 2 different "batista230" out there. The www is a big place! Or, can someone find out his next victim. We can all join that forum and have a little fun.
  20. I had that problem before. I put it down to the 3 cuts I made in the top. 2 cuts seems to work better (for me). I also think soft wood burns better. Something with a bit resin in it. Cheers
  21. Was in Gordon and Macphails in Elgin during the week. Their own version of Caol Ila was superb..
  22. From your post you seem to be describing a retort. There should only be holes in the top. The steam should eventually burn nicely down to a blue flame. Then the retort is removed and cover the holes with a damp cloth. If you've got a log burning stove, start with a sweetie tin in the stove. have a look at this thread http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/woodcraft-forum/54931-charcoal-burning.html
  23. An Eco fan on top of the stove, blowing in the direction of the jerky might be an idea (if you have an Ecofan that is)!
  24. The Famous Grouse is a no bad wee dram! It's the kind of dram you drink for nothing.....I wouldn't buy a bottle. Remember (it's probably been said earlier) there's no bad whisky. Just some are better than others.
