Ive seen a lot of Die back on 40 -60 yr old trees in the council district I am surveying (Telford) my recommendations so far are "monitor" I hope they pull through -

Google metal detecting spade. Its a half spade with a plate on top where you put your foot .Its to stop you putting holes in your boots. Better going for the more expensive ones as the steel is stronger, the cheaper one can buckle when on hard ground

good question, I always say a second hand decent detector is better than a new lower grade one. I will get back to you later as i have been out of touch I used to have a technetics T2 - had some great finds with it. I have a minelab e trac now.

my local tribe are the Cornovii - no coins minted but you get the odd coin from other tribes but they are rare. Try and get into Dorset - Durotriges coins are not uncommon

I personally dont like digging around old trees, I dont want to damage roots, however I do have permission in some woods where the trees are about 40 yrs old. The ground is very stoney which is the key to finding coins and artefact's hundreds of yrs old, as they cant make their way through the ground, unlike most other soil types. See attached my best find from my previous visit to these woods. Its a silver Celtic coin of the Dobunni tribe and is about 2000 yrs old
