  1. Maybe a moral dilemma for some..... What do you hate more, TR or nonces....?
  2. Interesting unforeseen circumstance of corona virus..... Notwithstanding slaughtering and eating beasties in wet markets and dubious hygiene which caused this outbreak, it’s no wonder it took hold in an area where so many people were breathing filthy air. Space images show drastic drop in China pollution as coronavirus shu… WWW.INDEPENDENT.CO.UK Satellite images show a dramatic drop in pollution over China after the coronavirus outbreak shut down swathes of the...
  3. Spent a bit of time in Tromso Rich. Price of a pint make your eyes water ?
  4. Am I missing the maths here? 2 days x 2 men @£500 / manday = £2k + chipper @ £150 (is that 1 day or per day?) = £2150 or £2300 (depending on chipper days) + VAT ? I must be mis understanding, £500 for 2 blokes sounds reasonable, £1000 a bit steep maybe.
  5. Can't say I'd have any sympathy for the bodger nor the tree owner. Whatever the price was before, it'd be the same (or higher) now....
  6. Age got the better of him. The old videos and recordings still crack me up though....
  7. I’m a miserable bastard.... What do you expect?
  8. I find I don't have a great deal of sympathy for the whining and moaning from Brits abroad caught up in this coronavirus travel disruption. Nor do I particularly support their aspirations to be repatriated. Iffum you've chosen to travel overseas at a time when the outbreak was known, then you are where you are by your own design.... I'll concede a very limited amount of sympathy for those that had travelled before the outbreak was notified but not so much as would translate to support for their movement back into the UK until they are certified clean. The lessons that should have been learnt from the transcontinental transmission of Spanish flu seem to have been completely overlooked. Just stay at home and cut out all that European kissing malarky.
  9. There’s hell on in Cawsand! A bit of thought / care selecting from the menu might be appropriate for the time being....
  10. Sadly, I think you may have inadvertently stumbled across one of the problems with the UK timber industry. It is near impossible to source and manufacture high quality, consistent product and supply it at a cost which represents VFM for the customer and profit to the seller and competes with manufactured, imported product. Totally understand the aspiration to DIY from start to finish but time (and the wife) waits for no man ? Difficult to challenge for price on something like this: 20/6 x 189mm x 2200mm Engineered Oak Flooring Barn Grade UV Oiled WWW.BONDTIMBER.CO.UK <p>Engineered Oak Barn Grade Flooring. 11. I close the sun roof going under that one mucker!
  12. Or..... Just ignore it all and carry on regardless. In real terms, who’s going to police / audit it...? Trading standards? If you don’t subscribe to the cert system and you deliver unseasoned or not 20% MC, it just needs a note saying “...don’t burn until <20%. Until folk start ignoring bad ‘policy’ they’ll just keep on pumping out bad policy.
  13. It’s all connected man.... ?
  14. "....Similarly, sales of wet wood in units of under 2m3 will be restricted from sale from February 2021, allowing for existing stocks to be used up. Wet wood sold in volumes greater than 2m3 will need to be sold with advice on how to dry it before burning from this date..." Government takes action to cut pollution from household burning - GOV.UK WWW.GOV.UK Sales of house coal and wet wood in England will be phased out from next year to cut pollution
  15. Out of order. Imagine if the shoe was on the other foot and after agreeing to 3 days at the end of day 2 you said, sorry can't do tomorrow. It's just a case of building trust and commitment (both ways) with the folks you work with. Don't think you'd stand much chance of 'insisting' on 3 days pay but you could try talking about the situation and see what sort of response you get. If you get the brush off you'll know to put that person at the bottom of the priority list or on the no thanks I'm too busy list. Depends how much you need the work from them really.
  16. Just realised this is kind of running in the "making the news today" thread so I'll pull this over here since it's better suited here: Just had a look at Woodsure certification. That'll be £500 for registration (plus travelling costs for site visit) and then £385/year for annual audit. So with BSL, ENPlus, BSENISO 17225 part 2 and now Woodsure how many different 'industry certifications' can 1 product actually attract? Each with a corresponding financial penalty attached of course. And then there's the CONFOR consultation response which is available to read (via a few click throughs) here: Arboricultural Association - Buy local, burn local - and buy ready-to-burn firewood WWW.TREES.ORG.UK <div class= row > <div class= col-sm-12 ><img alt= aa-news-firewood.jpg class= img-responsive img-fluid mt20... Did she really accuse DEFRA of being "...forestry phobic..." in section 38? That's going to be a great help I'm sure.... Think I'll just ignore it all and crack on as normal with sustainably sourced, well stacked and air dried firewood.

  18. George Eustice.... I’ll just make the obvious link. Cant get too excited (atm) about this. BSL has required moisture % at a set level for years. Potential to regularise garage forecourt net sales....meh. It’s just ‘another’ well intentioned but poorly considered central government attempt to impose unenforceable constraints upon processes they don’t really understand. How exactly is kiln drying Firewood environmentally sustainable? It’s not but they’ll probably come up with an incentive scheme which, as per normal, will be exploited.
  19. Did you see him on QT? At best, wholly uninspiring, at worst a leg iron in post so as to toe the party line.

  21. I "was" going to say...... Don't judge others by your own standards Mr C..... But, it appears yome may be right ???
  22. Reminds of a favourite saying of an old mate of mine: “...I never seem to have enough time for the cnuts I do like to worry about the ones I don’t..”
