  1. But as a policy, it falls apart at the “some of the biggest contributors to our air quality” point since (a) trains, aircraft and ships must be worse(?), and (b) (thinking heavy plant) there appears to be a firm drive towards infrastructure projects which demand heavy plant so their need remains, it’s just that they’ll be more expensive to operate. It’d be interesting if some wag calculated the price uplift associated with fuel duty as relates to HS2 for example.... Im inclined to want to support the initiative to reduce emissions, but I don’t see this as a well considered means or method of doing so. It adds, rather than reduces, complexity where it’s not necessary, it compounds existing preferential trading arrangements and it remains a challenging and costly system to administer and police.
  2. Don’t muck about Reg! Get yon straight to Dragons Den before it’s too late....

  4. Yup, as per normal, central government gets involved and shit gets messy. As another subsidy / income stream, farmers will simply sell red at the farm gate to any joe spunker with a jerry can. Probably even get a subsidy for doing it and call it diversification.... FFS If I have to pay road duty on fuel for the tracked chipper I might start using it to pop to the shops!
  5. It's been later to manifest in Cornwall than the rest of the country, but its here with a vengeance now....
  6. Nice job - great having a van Mines gone now but (at design stage) I was on my tod and main use was touring, surfing and motocross. After a rugby weekend at Bath, which was just an excuse and a destination, for a piss up with the lads in a pucker motorhome, and where one of the fines was to empty the shitter box, I vowed I'd never have a shitter in a van of my own. There's always the great outdoors after all. Then the Mrs & nipper came onto the scene....
  7. I’m just going to put this here: Red diesel While fuel costs and were largely left alone, the Chancellor did announce that he was ending tax relief on “red” diesel for most sectors, saying its users were “some of the biggest contributors to our air quality problem”. The current system allows some businesses who operate “off-road” vehicles (such as construction firms) to pay far less duty than on regular diesel. From 2023 this rebate will be removed for most sectors, although agriculture, horticulture, pisciculture, forestry and rail will continue to be eligible for duty relief. 10. I see Labour have expelled Trevor Philips now.... Just couldn’t make it up....?
  11. Then plant some Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) along the hedge line and in no time at all the 'other side' will have to trim what 'this side' has planted.
  12. That's a first class reply Gimlet. Made me look at it differently. You're absolutely right, the countries with the best ability to defend against this potential pandemic are actually those that are the worst offenders in terms of needless consumerism which, in turn, fuels the fire of carbon emission by manufacturing nations. Those least able to ride the storm are likely to be at the lower developed stage and naturally with a lower carbon footprint per person. So even if there are 20 million (Spanish flu figures) fatalities, it will most likely be the least offending individuals that perish rather than the worst.... Bugger, that's my head well and truly done in.....
  13. All quiet on the Green Party / XR / climate change camps wrt C19. You’d think they’d be embracing a scenario with the potential for a mass cull of humankind since that is the only timely and realistic means of making meaningful progress towards their stated aims. Just seems somewhat counterintuitive / hypocritical that they aren’t out celebrating.... ?
  14. I use these: Packaging Suppliers - UK & Europe Wide | BAG Supplies Ltd. WWW.BAGSUPPLIES.COM BAG Supplies Ltd. are based in Stoke-on-Trent. We stock and supply all of your bulk packaging requirements and deliver... decent product, first round of bags are gusting 4 years old. stacking the bags, I only go 2 high and a pallet under each (improves airflow, stack stability and ‘tidy’ looking) bag filling is a consideration. If just thrown in I can’t stand to look at the bags, bulgy, unsightly, less stable. If hand loaded tidy whilst hanging bag on forks you get a nice straight bag but it takes a bit longer. tarps over top row has been hit and miss with UV degradation. I’m thinking an open sided, box section roof cover only to be made this summer. If it makes you happy, carry on. If it hurts or costs you time, effort, money, maybe go pub instead ?
  15. (Scotland / England & Wales variations aside) I agree with Ed's position. One thing that might be particularly relevant for 'the cutter' though.... My "friend's" understanding, having tried to get an answer to this previously, is that the planning conditions (and any penalties / enforcement that may follow a breach) unlike TPO / CA breaches, would apply wholly and exclusively to the land / tree owner rather than the person engaged to remove the tree. So, if the tree owner is aware of planning conditions, and instructs the contractor to continue regardless, any potential investigation / enforcement would sit wholly and exclusively with the land owner with no criticism or culpability applicable to the contractor. That's as close to an answer as "my friend" could get when "they" found myself in exactly that situation.... The tree owner knew of the existence of planning restrictions, he told "my friend", "they" checked for any TPO/CA scenarios which "they" might be liable for, the tree owner gave "them" written instruction to carry on as specified. There's no liability on "them".... Not really an answer but maybe a potential solution to the problem....?
  16. It’d be clevererer to gauge both the number and situation of people gathering before applying a one size fits all upper limit on numbers at a gathering. 1000s at an open air event with low ppl/m2 would surely be less risky than 100s at an indoor seated high density ppl/m2 event? Meh, never happen. Keep calm and stay home....
  17. I'm not sure the maths stacks up there, sounds more like a PR line straight out of the NFU playbook...
  18. So you’re OK with systemic, establishment Lies and bullying and corporate manipulation...... So long as it’s happening to someone that’s not on your Christmas card list....? First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me. Just saying like....
  19. Alright, just pretend it’s not him, just watch and listen and see if what is evidenced doesn’t offend your sense of freedom and fairness. If it helps, just train your mind to see/hear Jeremy Corbyn, Che Guevara, Sadie Khan (or whatever figure you choose) Listen to the words and pretend it’s someone else saying it. It’s on a par with the Oxford Union address and the so called best minds in the land tried to prevent that. Go on, just try it - you’re too smart not to.... ?
  20. Now come on Mark, I watched that drivel you tagged a while back. Give it a try, it might lift the scales ?
  21. Here’s the link from a different source. The oppressive suppression of free speech should be like a red rag to the lefty types. Or maybe that’s a feature of fascism they secretly admire?
  22. I DARE YOU to look up the video on YouTube described in the pic below - and then watch it with an open mind. If you’ve got the kahoonas.... I can’t share the link (and you might have noticed the previous one is now showing as ‘unavailable’) but that’ll all become obvious if you watch the next piece. It is simply an acceptance speech For an award at the Danish Parliament.... How scary can that be?
  23. Do you know him well enough to claim that he is abhorrent? What do you know that might support such a tag?
  24. The NFU had this to say: NFU reiterates importance of red diesel exemption WWW.NFUONLINE.COM Ahead of the Budget next week, NFU President Minette Batters has highlighted the continued need for a lower rate... Obviously a well thought out and balanced response, as one might expect from the sector which benefits (and abuses) the current system so comprehensively. I particularly liked the quote: “...While agricultural vehicles have become more efficient, it is impossible for farmers to move away from using red diesel as there are currently no commercially viable alternative fuels...” Which, translated, actually means, of course there is a blindingly obvious alternative but they just don't want to pay the same as everybody else for non-rebated fuel. Maybe they'll have to think of more environmentally positive and economical viable ways of doing the non-agriculture related business that it is so common to see - tractors on the road transporting shoot parties, running haulage, parked at the cafe having breakfast having driven from the nearby agricultural college. All very common sights hereabouts.
  25. How slowly the wheels of government turn.... This has been on the radar for some time: Red diesel: call for evidence - GOV.UK WWW.GOV.UK Can't find any papers which detail the 'conclusions' which may have been drawn from the call for representations though?
