Nothing to disagree with there! Making a 'system' ridiculously complex (and therefore expensive) is about the only thing that CAN be guaranteed when government / local government is concerned. It's a giant Ponzi scheme.

I didn’t get that far down the commercial route. So far as I understood it had to 2 or more domestic properties or 1 domestic / 1 business. Didn’t realise the business had to be equal or greater than 50% of the domestic. Don’t matter anymore, ‘‘tis in the past. Interesting to hear you qualified but declined - now that’s an illustration of just how unnecessarily complex and counter productive these so-called ‘incentives’ can be....

The fall back plan if domestic RHI was delayed any further 'was' to lay pipe to an outbuilding where the dogs are kennelled, they are Schutzhund GSDs and wholly tax deductible (vet, food, training aids etc) as a part of the business. As such, I could have registered the kennels as a separate business and then claimed small premises business rate rebate whilst still being able to provide a business and a residential address for Commercial RHI purposes. It was just too much of a faff laying pipe and heat metering etc to go commercial rather than domestic. In hindsight, on the figures alone, I probably should have done it but time & effort got in the way.

Interesting point, hadn't thought about that, but it is some years off for me yet.... Maybe, at some point, maybe Tesla, will make a compatible system where all components are in sync.

That’s interesting. Availability of sufficient (free) wood / chip / pellet is a factor that might change the figures but I can see that as a significant factor for the Arbtalk dweller, maybe not the average Joe.

Next upgrade for solar PV may well be a battery bank with V2G compatible car. Charge the car up all day for free then suck down the leccy at night for free! Upfront costs might be a bit cheeky but the shits and giggles of free leccy would be worth it ?

I’ll have to find the report by an eminent tax law chamber that commented on the case as fundamental David V Goliath type scenario. I rowed with HMRC for a while, then told them to fuck off and invited them to join me in front of the lower tier tribunal which went about 75% in my favour. My attempt to get it before the upper tier tribunal for the other 25%, which I knew I could win, was rejected by the beak at the Royal Courts of Justice. It was a bit of a hoot to be fair.... But ever since, HMRC can suck my plums. If it’s not illegal or improper they can absolutely fuck off, I wouldn’t give them the steam off my piss.

Wholesale simplification of a system which has added endless layers of complexity upon complexity would be a grand starting point. Maybe if the whole system was so ‘straight forward’ that the need for flash suits to prepare submissions was made redundant - well that’d be a start!

I’ve heard of folks getting a visit / audit but never had one myself (so far.) I only use a ton of pellets a year but that’s DHW, 1 hr burn most (but not every) day during winter. Hot water is solar thermal in summer and heating is log burners in the hoose in winter. If you can start again with a new system / new tariff after 7 years I wouldn’t hesitate to upgrade to log gasification + larger thermal store. Definitely one to watch.

What paperwork are you burdened by Taff? I have an annual online declaration of continued ownership / serviceability of the system. 5 minutes work per year... I would be tempted to shift from pellet to wood burning with a larger storage capacity on the next upgrade - but that has more to do with personal circumstances rather than being unhappy with the pellet system.

"now" could benefit from some definition though.... Commercial RHI was rolled out 2012 (from memory), domestic RHI 2014ish. At that time we were still well and truly under the oppressive yoke of EU domination and whilst the avoidance of punitive fines may have been a strong driver for such incentives.... Roll forward to 2016 referendum - where the MAJORITY of the UK decided to say FU EU for a wide and varied number of well considered, deeply researched national and personal interest reasons... And here we are at the curtain call of 2019 and the process of 'leaving' the political union of federal Europe is only just starting to gain traction. So for domestic RHI with a 7 year term, 2021 sees it coming to a close anyway for the early entrants. That said, and as can be applied across the ENTIRE spectrum of (soon to be former) EU compliance, UK national processes (many of which far exceeded the minimum standards imposed by the EU) will stay EXACTLY as they were before UNTIL, by act of parliament, they are changed to a more tailored solution. Planes will still fly, manufacturers will still manufacture, sellers will still sell, buyers will still buy, medicines and foodstuff will still flow backwards and forwards.... All in exactly the same manner as they have done for generations and the likelihood of plague, pestilence, riot and disorder will quietly be forgotten - most embarrassingly by those that tried to convince the gullible that the world would stop turning the day after the EU referendum. So, yes, we ARE leaving the EU and the 'requirement' to comply with EU emissions directives will cease to apply. Should that be read as meaning RHI / solar PV tariffs etc will immediately slam into a brick wall? Personally, I anticipate UK national requirements will exceed current EU directives and therefore the incentive to encourage roll-out of renewable systems will increase - but that increase will be UK initiated not for fear of incurring punitive EU fines. (for Mull) The short answer is yes, we are (finally) leaving the EU. It doesn't make any difference...
