  1. I’m gonna have to see if I can find the dipshit research paper about urban canopy cover and white privilege now.... I genuinely snorted at the blatant bang wag honing (auto correct ‘got me’ there, but I’ll leave it as is) of the (so called) academic who put her name to it.... I ‘s’pose that YouTube cartoon about the black walnut is to be seen (and laughed at) no more.... 😫
  2. Now you’ve got Royal chirping in from the cheap seats...
  3. Petrograd - one of my all time, most memorable, outrageous and enjoyable runs ashore! And that’s from a long list of international contenders! Happy days 😂
  4. The “professional” told her what / how much to order, she did exactly as asked. An “amateur” did the job with half as much materiel. I ‘s’pose it’s possible builder planned for 2 coats. All I’m saying is, we all instantaneously thought it more likely that the overage would have gone off either to his home or another job. Im not suggesting ALL would behave this way, just that a lot seem to and it’s not just my experience.
  5. That’s a fair point, nod, dof cap. Friday I was at a very lovely 70yo customers house - part to just help fix something, part to talk politics and part for cake & coffee. Whilst there, the postie turned up. He and his mate had just painted her house. The builder that was going to do it had asked her to buy the paint and it had sat in the shed since he never bothered coming back to do the job. The postie said, you’ve got at least double what you needed there. We exchanged a knowing look and knew exactly what that caper was all about. Im a bit pissed now, that might not make any sense to anyone else....
  6. Didn’t intend to cause personal offence, I just speak from the experiences I’ve had with ropey builders.
  7. Haven't you got lambs to 'tend' to?
  8. As a [generally dissatisfied] customer of several builders over the years, both are part true and both may be part untrue - in degrees and according to circumstances. Materials being charged out to a job at 10s of %s above cost is a well known 'trick', as is over ordering and milking materiels from one job to supply another or complete work at home. In my [customer] experience, there is more to be saved from setting up ones own account, ordering and keeping account for materiels and not least of which - when paying day rate, avoiding the "just nipping off to the builders' merchant' gag. Maybe that's just my OCD though.... 🤪
  9. They'd be a good option, they've obviously got their priorities in the right order. Sadly though unless/until we can reshape our electoral system to something more like Proportional Representation they'll always be a "wasted vote" in our broken system. Folk don’t like what we got, but had the chance in 2011 to change it. 70% voted against AV 30% for. So “we” got what we voted for. I love the argument for AV / PR when used to support a Green Party “fairness” of representation case. People seem to overlook that a significant change (and I’m not saying I don’t see the need) would have far wider implications than just for the Green Party. We’d have Farage in Westminster right now for example!
  10. I wrote a cheque for shotgun licence renewal this week. How I found the cheque book what with Mrs being away is amazing! Invoices sent by email are always password protected - lot of info that’s useful to the ill disposed!
  11. Chattels.... Just leave your tears on the mantelpiece as you leave 😂
  12. Barter is a well established method of trade as I discovered and used to beat HMRC into an embarrassing climb down at tribunal - Cnuts!
  13. I’m offended that all you city types have restricted the conversation to VAT or cash.... What about all the other forms of non cash transactions?
  14. You bastards have RUINED a fascinating VAT thread with your frivolous, entirely unrelated, juvenile and puerile derail of a very serious matter. Damn your eyes!
  15. Metal shelves I tells ya.....
  16. I’d pondered this when planning to buy a couple of dozen ibc. Roofs - top idea. Remander cut out the sides as squares, flat pack / stack and retain for smal ground / lawn protection pads for tracked chipper / multione. Maybe a nut/bolt/washer + short chain to connect each square to make a track. Still foldable/ stackable. Didn’t get so far as trying it as ibc purchase fell through.
  17. Les’ll know I’m only tickling his sheep 😂
  18. Can you recommend some good ‘chippy’ forums Les.... I fancy getting in there and saying - “...yeah, bosh a set of metal shelves in there mate... Jobs a goodun..!”
  19. It’s NOT MY JOB! I was simply driving past a neighbouring farm and HAD TO STOP! He is now clutching one of my flyers and proudly pointed to his “tree work syste.” He explained that he sends the front loader up to the max, locks the valves then climbs up the tower.... Pleased as punch he was! (death certificate likely to record COVID as cause of death!)
  20. It’s such a simple and obvious issue it’ll never catch on...
