  1. As a [generally dissatisfied] customer of several builders over the years, both are part true and both may be part untrue - in degrees and according to circumstances. Materials being charged out to a job at 10s of %s above cost is a well known 'trick', as is over ordering and milking materiels from one job to supply another or complete work at home. In my [customer] experience, there is more to be saved from setting up ones own account, ordering and keeping account for materiels and not least of which - when paying day rate, avoiding the "just nipping off to the builders' merchant' gag. Maybe that's just my OCD though.... 🤪
  2. They'd be a good option, they've obviously got their priorities in the right order. Sadly though unless/until we can reshape our electoral system to something more like Proportional Representation they'll always be a "wasted vote" in our broken system. Folk don’t like what we got, but had the chance in 2011 to change it. 70% voted against AV 30% for. So “we” got what we voted for. I love the argument for AV / PR when used to support a Green Party “fairness” of representation case. People seem to overlook that a significant change (and I’m not saying I don’t see the need) would have far wider implications than just for the Green Party. We’d have Farage in Westminster right now for example!
  3. I wrote a cheque for shotgun licence renewal this week. How I found the cheque book what with Mrs being away is amazing! Invoices sent by email are always password protected - lot of info that’s useful to the ill disposed!
  4. Chattels.... Just leave your tears on the mantelpiece as you leave 😂
  5. Barter is a well established method of trade as I discovered and used to beat HMRC into an embarrassing climb down at tribunal - Cnuts!
  6. I’m offended that all you city types have restricted the conversation to VAT or cash.... What about all the other forms of non cash transactions?
  7. You bastards have RUINED a fascinating VAT thread with your frivolous, entirely unrelated, juvenile and puerile derail of a very serious matter. Damn your eyes!
  8. I’d pondered this when planning to buy a couple of dozen ibc. Roofs - top idea. Remander cut out the sides as squares, flat pack / stack and retain for smal ground / lawn protection pads for tracked chipper / multione. Maybe a nut/bolt/washer + short chain to connect each square to make a track. Still foldable/ stackable. Didn’t get so far as trying it as ibc purchase fell through.
  9. Can you recommend some good ‘chippy’ forums Les.... I fancy getting in there and saying - “...yeah, bosh a set of metal shelves in there mate... Jobs a goodun..!”
  10. It’s NOT MY JOB! I was simply driving past a neighbouring farm and HAD TO STOP! He is now clutching one of my flyers and proudly pointed to his “tree work syste.” He explained that he sends the front loader up to the max, locks the valves then climbs up the tower.... Pleased as punch he was! (death certificate likely to record COVID as cause of death!)
  11. It’s such a simple and obvious issue it’ll never catch on...
  12. And, perhaps, over taken by events - if we’ve learned anything (and I’m sure ‘we’ haven’t) from the Covid scenario, LESS movement of people is better than more in a world with highly transmissible viruses. If government (regional / national / international) can’t keep pace with change, maybe people power will do it for them. Wife starts a new job tomorrow. She saw it advertised, liked the look of it but it was based just shy of 200 miles away. She applied, interviewed, was the preferred candidate but she said she’d only accept the post if it was ‘work from home.’ Like I say, she starts tomorrow- would never have happened pre Covid.
  13. I haven’t looked closely enough at HS2 to have a strongly held view either way Mark - other than to say I can’t really see how 10 minutes off a journey is sufficient to justify the sacrifices. I know it’s considerably bigger than that very simplistic view obvs. Less air travel has to be an aspiration rather than the seemingly obsessive expansion that seems to be fashionable.
  14. This is interesting (IMO) https://www.treehugger.com/france-to-ban-short-flights-5176583 More efficient trains could equate to fewer domestic flights (not suggesting this is a complicated or controversial concept 😂) I wonder if the anti-HS2 brigade would see a benefit in fewer domestic flights?
  15. There it is.... Straight from the university of YouTube 😂
  16. It’s not helpful to cross reference US and UK, statutory, legal, social and habitual precedents. I haven’t read the AB you mention K but (a) sounds like goody and (b) you seem to be advancing a fairly reasonable proposition that the task of law enforcement (not intentionally using a US term) is to investigate a potential crime and there is no obligation upon the ‘suspect’ to assist in that process - if I’ve interpreted that correctly, I totally agree. “whatever you say may be recorded and used in evidence” Immediately followed by a question.... ”Do you understand?” You've just told me I don’t need to say anything now you’re straight in with the questions.... Theres a great YouTube vid (unfortunately, US, which summarises this - I’ll see if I can find it.
  17. There is margin for ‘interpretation.’ Example you use the term “instruction” What is an “instruction?” Is it a request or a direction, is it a lawful order? if a request - it can be granted or rejected accordingly. similarly an “instruction”, what constitutes a lawful order is less well understood by BOTH the police (UK) and the public. The uniform and warrant card do not bestow unrestricted authority upon the constable to issue advice, expect requests to be complied with, hand out instructions - lawful orders are quite different.
  18. COVID is “this” years excuse! Prior to that it was “austerity”, prior to that something else and next year we’ll prob have the new excuse. Only thing missing is accountability!
  19. Maybe ones white t’other black?? 🤨🤨
  20. Practice run for outcome of Derek Chauvin trial.... Police, Protesters Clash in Minneapolis Suburb After Daunte Wright Shooting WWW.GOOGLE.CO.UK Protesters called for police accountability Monday evening, a day after the shooting death of a 20-year-old Black man... Come what May from the trial, it’ll go off!
  21. Stop looking Egger - you WON’T find it. If you / someone you know are/is ‘seriously outraged,’ an appropriate coa would be to review the application supporting docs (eco report etc) and DN (for any existing stated conditions), gather any available ‘evidence’ of contravention of conditions or unlawful activity then present finding to LA planning enforcement and/or local constabulary wildlife officer. Then, go to pub, drink beer, sit back and watch as ABSOLUTELY NOTHING happens! Morning mate 😆😆
