  1. Brilliant thread! Doesn't having kettle on fill the room with steam though?? Very jealous of those 'flat tops!' Ours was in the house when we moved in and although it's a beauty, and has proved much dough and dried many chillies, I do wish for a flat top!
  2. That ROCKS!! My little angel just had her 2nd birthday, if we order now can we have one of your wife's cakes this time next year???
  3. # laughing at the visual image that is giving me! Like a wild rhino charging through the under growth! Brilliant!!
  4. Good man! Not an "adventure" best done alone.
  5. Found this outfit whilst browsing online today, some competitively priced items, maybe worth a look: The Safety Supply Company PPE Specialists
  6. Nice one, will save that read for later in the week.
  7. Nice link! Too much detail for me, if John the Glass says it's ceramic I'm just repeating what he told me, chemistry not my bag! I've seen John handle sheets of glass like he's folding paper, if I tried it there'd be fingers & claret all over the floor - in my book, he's a Demi-god of the glass world, he could tell me it's made of sugar and I'd believe him ):0)
  8. Woodwarm - does what it says on the tin!
  9. It's not glass! It's ceramic... I only learnt that when I went to see our local guy (John the Glass) to ask him to cut new windows for my stove. Cheap as chips, don't pay too much, ask if they are supplying glass or ceramic to see if they are pucker. Thought I'd do the replacement myself rather than put the doors into local wood burner place - we've got a big, old, Woodwarm, securing bolts were seized and needed drilling out and re-tapping, replaced the ropes etc, bit of a hassle but better than paying 'shop' prices.
  10. Their salary would be the obvious starting point (from the employer/employee perspective at least) might be different for the person who was expecting fair weather and got PWT!
  11. I've just put my thoughts inside the quote above Andy. All I can say is, I have found it a useful thread.
  12. Andy, the clear difference between the 2 elements is recognised and acknowledged, I wouldn't say it's a confusion 'between' the 2 different aspects but an attempt (certainly on my part) to understand the juxtaposition - or arrive at a point where it's obviously impossible if that makes sense?
  13. They'll wonder what's happening at the warehouse! A sudden run on heavy gloves, tinternet's a wonderful thing!!
  14. Here's the pic I like best, she's a natural but we had to have words about anchor points!
  15. Here's the new boy (foreground), 4YO, Kennel Club champion Shutzhund (tracking, protection, obedience) certified German Sheperd Dog. He was a bit "flighty" at first but has settled nicely.
  16. I think you flatter me with the 'only a step behind' comment! Although I would caveat that I had a 2 year old baby bouncing on me and a wife with a hang-over (having supposedly attended book club) to contend with while reading your epic post this morning. I've been looking online and came across this link (which I found quite useful, maybe others that are 'watching' but not contributing might find it as useful as I did - perhaps I should have looked at the number of people 'viewing' the thread before I wrote that...) http://www.forestry.gov.uk/pdf/FCRN008.pdf/$FILE/FCRN008.pdf Looked on AA website and various others for a copy of Helliwell, will try local library and LA to see if theres any chance of borrowing a reference copy and get a bit more read-in.
  17. 1 Pair on the way! Hawthorn / hazel hedge next week
  18. Same here, never seen any of them, no intention to ever do so. I was starting to think I was the only person in the world never to have watched them..
  19. All good Royal! Sit down pow-wow done, future shoot dates done, I've given indicative safe arcs (even though it's not my place to establish safety ranges for them!) I totally acknowledge the potential for injury (theoretically) is low, but "risk" as probability x effect = ANY chance of my daughter catching one in the eye is unacceptable. My concern, if such ignorance / arrogance regarding fairly rudimentary courtesy / safety issues is evident, it likely exists more broadly through the syndicate SOPs. Only time will tell now, maybe if they're still struggling to understand safety ranges I'll suggest the syndicate captain places his shooters in position then he can walk back to my garden and take a shot at each one in turn. If they're "uncomfortable" with the fall of shot, they'll know they're too close! Or perhaps I'll arrange a shoot adjacent to his garden and see if he wants his granddaughter to experience falling shot.
  20. Epic post! I've taken the bait. Should we value trees on the depreciated replacement cost as we might a hospital / car...? Only if we choose to discard the notional (debatable) uplift it brings in the community, and since 1 persons 'notional benefit' could be another's 'notional nuisance' how are they reconciled? Our democracy has given us local government and the tree officer is empowered and entrusted to make the decision for us. So we're trying to understand how they come to their decision...
