  1. Would I work Christmas Day? It'd have to be early, the port bottle comes out around 10ish, it's all downhill from there!
  2. Chestnuts - done! It's Christmas!
  3. Interested to hear which parts of this thread you think might have any potentially libellous content??
  4. Whoops! Pressed sent too soon! Take tool bag off and anchor separately once work position reached.
  5. What's the point of tying in? Fall arrest, maybe manage an injury locally and await rescue.... It ain't coming! It's zero tolerance for mistakes where so called 'risk management' actually makes the task more hazardous. Like working at depth. Great vid, balls of steel! I watched footage of native Americans building the skyscrapers that pulled the US out of the great depression and was in awe of their natural talent, balance and comfort at height. How could that have happened? They didn't 'evolve' a working at height competence, it was just there, ingrained and specific to that race of people more so than any other. The commentator says "there's no quick way down" when the guy is assessing the electrical storm potential, I'd disagree! There are 2, one is the direct route (best avoided), the other is a parachute. I would have thought a BASE jump would be preferable to a lightening strike?
  6. Pellet boiler: Solar thermal feed: Pellet hopper: Pellet mill (laid up for winter, generally used in Summer or when solar PV is generating sufficient output to run it): Getting the pellets right has proved a challenge but it is a work in progress.
  7. Same, same! I started a reply (but since I've been in hospital overnight with daughter, I couldn't check my facts) Can't argue with your logic! (But you expected that because it's thoroughly thought through!!) The only point I was trying to recall from memory was that I recall an aspect of the planning submission that asks something like "does the proposed development affect trees on the proposed site or trees ADJACENT to the proposed site. Not sure if that's just a Cornwall planning form but would have expected it to be from a national framework - that's the bit I couldn't check from hospital. If my recollection is accurate, and it's true across national planning submissions, and either the developer (or his architect / arb consultant) didn't include adjacent trees in their submission, or, if they did and the LA failed to spot it and place conditions (that's a lot of "if's") then maybe some liability could be found there?
  8. Legendary! Should be adopted immediately as an internationally recognised imperial standard!! Not sure it would have been "approved of" in the 'Word to the wise' thread though! Perhaps a sub set of measures could be devised dependant on the nature and previous form of the person being beaten.
  9. I will try and make next one! I feel like I have a hangover after a fairly unsettled night in the chair next to babe's bed. We're going home today so things should get back on an even keel!
  10. You're right there! There is smaller scale kit (boilers & chippers) without having to go 5-6 figures in capital outlay. I spent lots of time & effort researching 'domestic' scale outfits a couple of years ago. I couldn't make the numbers work on the smaller scale though. Settled for a pellet boiler and a pellet manufacturing outfit.
  11. Sorry I can't make it, would have been good to have a few beers, instead I'm doing an overnight at DERRIFORD with our poorly little girl.
  12. Thanks Jon, thanks WWs, I haven't mentioned it to 'the boss' but it's a definite maybe! I quite fancy it, just found it on AA route planner (31.3 miles, 1hr 14mins - therein lies a story!) If it's an Inn in the true sense I'll bell them and see if I can get a bed or if they can recommend a local B&B. Update tomorrow.
  13. It's a good question! I went through the same process 2 years ago. I wanted to use general arb chip for the boiler. Looked at the boilers available at the time, even grabbed a hammer mill to mash it down to 10mm (bankrupt auction stock) just in case it was going to work-out. Finally realised the best bet for me was a pellet boiler - the rationale has been borne out above. That said, I did conclude that a 'district' heating system would be better suited to general arb chip (larger scale - school / church / farm etc) I believe there is a market for it and the 'commercial' RHI incentive provides a decent return on the investment (even though I'd rather put all the staff from DECC in the burner for being inept, shiny assed bureaucrats but that's just because they've U-turned, prevaricated and lied about the roll-out of the 'domestic' RHI) There was a guy in France (can't remember his name but will find it if someone wants it) who was running a system of coiled pipe through large wood chip piles, was heating water for his house - you know how hot a pile of chip gets!
  14. Food is fuel! I love my tuck and have a bite when I need one, if I'm up the tree it comes up, if I'm on the ground it's close to hand. Without good food, plenty of hydration, the work rate drops. Do you do the 3-4 courses at lunch or after work? Not sure I could do a big lunch without a sleep on the chip pile but if it's after work, karabina me to the table, I'm in for the long haul! There's an 'eat all you can' breakfast near to me, I only do it when I'm hungry enough to eat a scabby headed donkey between 2 stained mattresses, but it usually takes > 2 hrs before they throw me out! Food, glorious food! Bon appetite! :thumb up:
  15. Most replies "appear" to have missed the implication that the tree is stated as being ADJACENT to, not in the building area.and belongs to someone other than the developer. As you say, makes for a different set of consequences!
  16. Just post up the planning app reference or postcode and which council area it is. The planning submission and decision documents (including arb impact) are a matter of public record. No way you'd be liable for slander for doing that, just be careful expressing a "view" on the standard of work perhaps.
