  1. It's Cornwall, could be a bit warmer so he's not heading down yet?
  2. Vid was a good watch and the tool looks useful. There's a thread here: http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/tree-health-care/92034-assessing-structural-condition-beech-2.html Where post 11 has a link to a power point presentation (Slide 7) which (it I'm reading it right) appears to challenge the thinking for what might be considered a safe / unsafe union. Or am I reading it wrong??
  3. It's a Wiki image but the moth looks like this apparently https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deilephila_elpenor
  4. Just seen this big lump in the Fuschia! Deilephila elpenor (Elephant Hawk-moth) I think.
  5. Yes, absolutely, and by his own publicly stated republican sentiment. After 1 weekend and ½ a week in the job, worn out? Perhaps a short tenure in office then? Time and a place for "zoning out", inability to identify when and where is a fundamental shortcoming in a public figure with potential national / international influence. Football - IMHO, a complete irrelevance. World politics - slightly more significant.
  6. Or to put it another way, looking just slightly beyond the obvious..... Here we have a demonstration of an individual (in this case, the leader of Her Majesty's opposition) who has long standing, deeply engrained, personally held and publicly stated fundamental issues of conscience which can be U-turned on a sixpence under pressure from party or public. And so soon after taking office, one could call it the first time any pressure has been exerted, over something that could be considered trivial, and look at the result. Doesn't bode well but we'll have to wait and see.... I wonder if that could cause problems in any other areas of international relations, diplomacy, domestic policy?
  7. Interesting (and not entirely uncommon) dilemma Dave. Here's the HSE page which indicates what might be acceptable as "training and competence." http://www.hse.gov.uk/work-equipment-machinery/training-competence.htm Might be some mileage in bringing to the site manager's attention??
  8. Wouldn't you think it even weirder for such a publicly principled individual to spectacularly U-turn so soon after taking office and making such a public display of his principles? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-34263447
  9. Brilliant! ½ day planned due to forecast rain which didn't materialise! Remaining Ash / Chestnut stems collected from yesterday's job. Fry up at 11:00, home for 12:00, PMQ's and a quick kip on sofa. Logs split and stacked, dog walked, 110 delivered to garage ready for service / MoT test tomorrow. Life's a beech!
  10. Or FC approved man plan / exemption qualification if FL not required.
  11. Ant, I may be able to move some / all of that straight off site buyer collects. Must have FL though. Talk soon!
  12. Didn't get a snap "before" felling, but here are some of the "after" pictures from a job today. Thought it might be useful to compare the external signs (considerably worse in the tree from today than the one shown in the thread pics) and show the internal decay effect. It's not so often that we get to see an "after" pic as far as I can see. Hope it helps in your decision making process.
  13. All very much understood David! As with other advice / opinions on AT, all (well, almost all 😆) gratefully received but not considered in any way binding on the provider! Responsibility starts at home!
  14. Pics from yesterday..... Standing stem has lost approx 15' out of the top since last year.
  15. Driving myself insane with the books! Each one appears to contradict the one before or after!
  16. Found these last Sunday, convinced myself they were false Chanterelles, now starting to think they may have been the real deal?
  17. Brilliant! Really glad this thread has popped up again. Haven't seen it before and was thinking of asking David if it would be OK to include possible edibles on the "Tis the season...." thread. Keen on edibles but haven't found anyone local to bounce the ID's off before eating, just a bit nervous before flashing up the sauté pan! First 2 Bay Bolete? Then next 3 Shaggy Parasol? Or am I miles out?
  18. Look up Avant / Boxer / Kanga / Vermeer / Multione on the search function. Several really good threads with stacks of info available.
  19. Yeah, OK, if you really think that.... Today: Corbyn elected Labour leader..... Therefore - Time for another independence referendum! Tomorrow: EU referendum... Therefore - Time for another independence referendum Prince Charles accedes to the throne... Therefore - Time for another independence referendum King Alec sneezes.... Therefore - Time for another independence referendum Yawn.....
  20. Interesting times ahead for your country too Ted. Was going to ask your thoughts on Mr Trump?
  21. How do you think the financial case will stack up with current oil prices? Good luck with that...,
