  1. Try and get a definitive confirmation of the boundary line (not as easy at it should be), then you'll be able to ascertain what to consider next.
  2. Yes, I saw that.... I didn't really get it though since I can't see what there is to vent against??
  3. Everyone is being exceptionally tactful and reserved, maybe some people have met or have social connections which is tempering the replies....? I thought it was an inadequate submission wholly justifiably rejected and I'm surprised it's been highlighted / publicised - it actually highlights entirely appropriate practice by the LA. Home / tree owners can after all, submit their own applications - I've seen some that would make the example given look amateur. Historic works, qualification level, company reputation, social connections all (should be) irrelevant since it is the public documentation and process that will be open to scrutiny, audit or appeal. "...is this specification adequate/does it make sense..." No and no, but you already know that because you had it returned. No offence intended, just surprised you had to ask......
  4. That's bonkers! Wouldn't cover transport, congestion charge / parking fees (if relevant) & lunch let alone TM! Can't imagine how anyone would even look at it at those rates?
  5. I think Muttley might have got you there Mull.... Unless you think Difflock thinks his opinion is underrated?? I should have had a think about it but I'm tired, had a wee dram and off to bed in a minute... 20:48 and ready for bed, the rock & roll lifestyle!
  6. Is the "U" in (imhuo) an implant from hUsqvarna or was it a typo? What does it mean.... Is it something important??
  7. Some??? He's still out there watching......
  8. A college seeks to employ instructors with what appears to be a pitiful salary package and what seems to be a fairly rudimentary skills / qual's requirement via an agency that allows spelling errors in the advertisement.... Maybe it's just me, but that doesn't present an image of a particularly polished organisation nor does it instil confidence in the output. Value for money for those potentially enrolling on the course? http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/employment/97315-aboriculture-instructor-needed-warwickshire-up-10-48-ph.html
  9. Well that is the matter well and truly moderated then.... I'm off to eat my supper in the chipper....
  10. Beau, minute 1:17 "A lot of it as good as kiln dried..." Maybe a small edit on the script either to avoid the suggestion that kiln dried is somehow better and that only some of yours is as good as kiln dried - leaves the potential to question what about the stuff that isn't as good as kiln dried or that perhaps kiln dried is better than air dried. Or, if wishing to compare directly with kiln dried - "equivalent average moisture content to that of kiln dried but without the energy required to undertake kiln drying - therefore, an equivalent product but produced with a reduced CO2 footprint..." You talk about volume produced in the video, consider visibility of FC and potential for FL or cross compliancy conflicts perhaps if it's going public? Crocadon - not taking the machine. TAONB said it was beyond their capacity to coordinate another piece of moving machinery....
  11. You know how these discussions get out of hand Mick - you're an icon of the outlandish and entertaining at times....! It's kind of fun in a way, but seriously, I'm less troubled by what other people do, than by someone trying to convince themselves/others* (*delete as appropriate) that any given situation / scenario is somehow perfectly acceptable or good practice where it's wholly unjustifiable. Perhaps a poll would be in order to set the issue to rest once and for all? Do you sit in the chipper - Y/N Are you dead or seriously injured - Y/N If dead, which brand of chipper "did" for you - TW/GM/ET/other Which is the best chipper? If tracked, which is the best trailer - BJ/IW/B
  12. Oh David...... After so long, I was starting to see a glimmer of hope that we were just starting to embark on a long and fruitful journey of professional and intellectual discourse..... Please say it isn't over so soon......
  13. I certainly hope not Stubby! Your years and wisdom are evidence enough of evolutionary development and survival instinct..... I'm just suggesting that sometimes it's not only our personal actions that can lead to disaster but also the example others, perhaps less savvy, take from our behaviour! Somebody wants to sit in the chipper, that's no problem - it won't be my chipper and it won't be my job. We may all have bad habits and carelessness on occasions, but it cannot be sensible to advocate behaviour that could, in a sequence of events, lead to a tragedy that could so easily be avoided?
  14. Whoops, touched a nerve? Ummm, your final sentence appears to be in conflict with the one marked in red above? I could explain why it's inappropriate but it'd likely fall on deaf ears so I won't bother. If you can find it in the user manual though, and you think it's a design feature, appreciate if you could just link that up so that the wider world can benefit.... What you do, and perhaps more importantly the example you set, is most unlikely to ever impact upon myself so crack on as you see fit - don't take it personally fella, I couldn't give a monkeys how you behave at work. Oh, go on then...... scenario: New young apprentice on site regularly sees experienced crew member eating sandwiches and yarning-on whilst sat in the chipper at lunchtime quite reasonably considers this to be normal and acceptable practice..... One hot busy day whilst the supervisor is distracted talking to the client or sorting a rigging scenario, the apprentice, having gained some confidence and starting to feel like "one of the guys" thinks I'll have a break and catch a cold drink whilst it's quiet for a minute. He sits in the hopper, sweat shirt tied around his waist reaches down and takes a well deserved cool gatorade from the iggy..... Meanwhile, senior groundy who's in a bit of a rage because he's been wrestling a particularly troublesome piece of brash back to the chipper from the direction of the tow hitch, stops briefly to fire the bad boy up and crank the revs on so as to destroy his brash pile - doesn't see matey who's reaching in the iggy..... The rest is pretty self explanatory and is dissected in detail at the coroner's hearing..... And it could all have been avoided if those that should have known better had set an appropriate example. Plenty of "what ifs" and "assumptions" there but I'd be surprised if you thought the scenario was too outlandish to have a hint of the possible reality to it? And assuming you did see the potential, would you still advocate sitting in the hopper as an acceptable example? Just asking that's all, nothing personal, despite your initial and subsequent personal insults.....
  15. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachments/timberwolf/77739d1318511084-hi-has-anyone-got-user-manual-2004-125ph-tw-125-7750-7726.pdf Couldn't find "seating" in the index.... Is it a subsection of "blockages?"
  16. Chipper was full of cushions??
  17. Apologies, missed this last night... I was so taken aback by Skyhuck's kind words. Appreciate your considered opinion! May I assume you condone / encourage the use of industrial machinery as an appropriate and suitable seating facility for yourself and your employees and that it's written into your staff welfare facilities policy statement? Do you provide a high density foam comfy cushion or is it bare metal and Hawthorn debris? (If no cushion, that could be considered as a slight potential oversight there if you don't mind me saying - best to avoid such perils if poss!!) Perhaps if more (of a certain type of dumb, slack jawed, moronic, dribbling redneck) were to treat the hazardous work environment with contempt, there'd be less demand upon the precious oxygen the more advanced human race depends upon.... Happy chipping, sounds like you'd give George Cadbury a run for his money in compassion, provision of workforce social facilities and ethical conscience. 👍🏻
  18. It's going to stop being fun if we start "understanding" each other.....
  19. Have you got a webcam in my study??? I positively shuddered! OK, you caught a hint of humour in the sub text, but the boot polish thing was deadly serious! Would it be fair to say, we all shuddered at the thought of the young lad, first day on the job, being pulled through the chipper Stateside a while back, and the more recent thread on a similar subject? It's familiarity that breeds contempt. Perhaps thankfully, the meaty chippers are less common lever here, but seriously, pic below =£10 and is designed for purpose!
  20. If anyone else was asking I'd say no.... Or at least only a little bit... You'll have to work it out for yourself!
  21. The type of person that would sit in the hopper is likely to be the brain dead liability that wouldn't notice it was on or off - lazy, numbnuts that spreads bad habits, doesn't polish his boots daily and leaves his lunch behind. Carelessness, contempt and familiarity lead to accidents. Running, idle or off, it's not a seat, not a place to sit, it's a serious and expensive piece of equipment that deserves respect and appropriate care.
