  1. Nah, JC put DA in charge of it and it’s beeen a balls up ever since ? We’re in leaf here (strong Tory seat mind!)
  2. It's always "somebody else's fault" and "somebody else's responsibility to fix it."
  3. A fair retort... Especially if you've seen it in effect.
  4. I wasn't advocating the company Ed, just signposting to some of the references on their easy to find web page. Are you being a bit harsh on them though.... (I don't have a horse in that particular race btw) An equal generalisation might be - It's a capital fund which buys larger plots from agricultural owners (that were in it for the investment return rather than much genuine interest in good forestry / woodland management) that have exploited the subsidy / tax benefits which are generally coming to the end of their useful draw-down by the time WL.C.UK. get their hands on them. Divvy them up into smaller parcels, put an access road in and sell on at an extortionate profit to hobby woods folk. Granted, probably not a viable commercial output once divvied up, but conversely, where has commercial forestry got us in the preceding 70 years? Hardly a glowing record whereas personal investment and interest at least has the potential to re-wild / naturalise previously clear felled and mono planted forest blocks and it is a means by which people are reconnecting with nature... Surely not ALL bad?
  5. Politics (and farming) touches all aspects of life, we are agreed ???
  6. That's inaccurate and unfair my grumpy Northern friend... It's not "bashing", it's an observation that bemoaning a situation that (in some circumstances could be considered to be of the complainants own making) is not always conducive to the unconditional sympathies of other business sectors - especially when other business sectors (a) don't tend to moan so much and (b) don't have a fraction of the systemic advantages of the agricultural sector... You live in the Islands, it's cold, the grass doesn't grow so quick, it makes you grumpy, this isn't a farming forum..... Ummmmm...... Not sure where else to go with that..... ??
  7. Cut the grass for the second time yesterday.... Folks were cutting in March - but that is just RUDE! Now then, it's a discussion I've had many times with the neighbours when they are complaining about lambing at Christmas. It is the pursuit of the perception of profit which drives farmers to put the ram in early so as to get the best prices for early season lamb. It's a volatile market and a risky strategy where input effort / cost often exceeds output sales value.... The difficulties this presents is that it means young are in the shed rather than the field. It's grain rather than grass where inputs costs have the very real potential to negate early profit, early conception gives rise to greater risk of infection with blue tongue since the mossies are still around, and of course the labour / inconvenience of animal husbandry in the cold / dark of pre-Spring. I'm not having a pop, just saying, I can't sympathise for the hardships which, more often than not, are self inflicted by artificially advancing the natural cycle of conception in the pursuit of profit, then have a grumble when it doesn't work out.... You know when the grass starts, time the ram to suit the start of the growing season.....?
  8. Good example.... I get weekly planning enforcement notices and weekly 'cases closed' notices for Cornwall. I used to read them every week but it very quickly became obvious that nothing tangible (that's not entirely accurate, of the 10's of cases per week, maybe 1 per month were valid infringements and the remainder were petty complaints that never went anywhere) ever seemed to happen - so I stopped reading them. It'll go nowhere... Forget it!
  9. Shocking..... and they wonder why maggots get killed!
  10. That's an interesting one Gary. Sounds like, either, there's more to it than a "woodman's hut" or the TO is being a bit over enthusiastic...? Birds in wood, who'd have ever thought that would happen.... Not suggesting it's authoritative but some tips / potential follow up points here: http://www.woodlands.co.uk/owning-a-wood/woodlands-and-planning-legislation/
  11. You mean, grumpy old barstewrad Mull! What's got your goat... Raining up there again?? Come on now, Spring is in the air, it's a time of new growth, anticipation, and boundless optimism (even in Scotland ???)
  12. Possibly with an alcohol dependency issues since he appears to be chugging double pints!
  13. 50 year old with dolls - requires some explanation.... Maybe perfectly plausible, however......
  14. Eggs knows the "manner" in which it was delivered... Like many folks have said before, it's that 3rd dimension that is lacking from on-line communication in comparison to 1st person direct.
  15. And that's why the dogs guard the office door....
  16. C'mon Mark, a wee search on the tinter web is only slightly more than nothing....
  17. Maybe not in the Labour movement where one should never be seen to walk against the MOMENTUM of the wheel.... It DID however work for me since it was as a direct consequence of 'questioning authority', thinking beyond the obvious and challenging the norm which resulted in the award which seems to intrigue you so much.... Maybe that is also a part of where your misunderstanding of military character comes from.... It's not trench warfare anymore, it's a highly advanced, tactical and technical scenario where the brightest minds are recognised, nurtured and challenged to recognise historical precedents, question the norm and seek solutions beyond the obvious.... Look Mark, it's not that big a deal, I used it as an email and as several site logins because it was an obvious way of differentiating from the millions of other "Kevin Johnsons" that you will find if you type that into google (or others) and it was similar when choosing login names - type in Kevin Johnson and the chances are there are already a dozen others so you end up with 938374L or some other obscure suffix. I don't want to try and remember a million different logins so I found an obvious, and easy way differentiate and to remember it. Truth be told, amongst you merciless bastards of AT, I wish (a) I hadn't and (b) I'd, like so many others, chosen something anonymous. But I didn't and that's that done. It has lead to certain parties, where sensible argument or logic fails, to resort to petty jibes but you know what, it's like smacking a rhino - pretty pointless. It's kind of self fulfilling, once the petty personal jibes start, you know the argument / discussion / debate/ banter is won. Question - what is your problem with it? Is it an anti Monarchy / anti establishment thing (like Green gay) or is it just a means by which you think you can have a pop at me personally? It's not quite the same, but do you have a pop at your Doctor if they have Dr on the name plate of their door? I mean they're not really doctors if the prefix is used in the medical sense are they, it's a title kind of 'borrowed' from academia. Do you have a pop at a QC if they use that suffix on their business card? Do you have a pop at an MP or MEP? Genuinely, we've had our fair share of bad tempered arguing, it hadn't got us anywhere and, from my perspective, I see us as being over that hill. Perfectly happy to have digs when digs are due, but there's no malice in it... Come on Comrade, lighten up, I might even but you half of stout one day you Northern monkey! ?
  18. But he is inextricably linked to the story (and the conspiracy theory Mark - 27 countries, 1 UK government, the EU, NATO all wrong, Jezza right.....) Is the embarrassment starting to sting Mark? (I am genuinely joking there, I just don't want you to tie your horse to a flaming wagon and get dragged down the road with it.... )
  19. ???? 1 very brief snap shot deleted from a social media platform causes huge excitement amongst tin hatters... Whereas fully expanded scenario is explained in detail at https://www.gov.uk/government/news/novichok-nerve-agent-use-in-salisbury-uk-government-response 27 independent countries, NATO, the EU have ALL been duped, at least Jeremy knows what he's doing.... FFFFFFFFS!
