  1. That could work as a side line, I have scope (currently before advertising my tree services fully) to take on some subby climbing work and it all helps to pay for it
  2. Thats 350 for a 6" timberwolf not the 3" (to clarify)
  3. I've used a cs100 when Justin at FRJones had one for hire, locally we only have a timberwolf 3" gravity chuck all over the floor kinda machine. The local option for a chipper hire is pricing to me around 350 per day!! so hiring a machine isnt an option.
  4. I'm very unsure about second hand equipment and want to avoid if at all possible. I have bought only Stihl equipment in the last two years and avoid cheap and secondhand kit as I need the reliability (as we all do) and really would like to do the same with the chipper The truck on the other hand - I'm not sure the finance per month is going to work for both and so may have to go second hand with that - looking at Iveco daily or similar.
  5. Thats a good way to look at it actually. At the moment I dont use a chipper and smash stuff down in a trailer - its harder, takes longer and waste away is bulkier. The chipper is needed given some of the work coming up this winter, plus I feel like I can't compete on price with some of the bigger companies due to the waste away is incurring more time and therefore money when comparing quotes. I'm loathed to sell myself to the full potential at the moment by way of advertising as I fear I wont win the jobs due to the lack of kit to win on price. Catch22 perhaps, it seems clear cut but I worry about the months when there is little arb work and it still needs to be paid for ?
  6. Chipper only is around 200 - 250 per month depending on make, all around 5 / 6" size. Doobin - how about one who has tickets to 39 as well? 2nd climber??
  7. Hi everyone I am in the process of gathering quotes for finance on a new chipper, and truck. I am just trying to forecast figures for future work verses repayments and would be interested to know what others subby out their chippers for? I wouldn't be looking to hire it out but prefer the idea of me and the chipper for the day? The figures per month are a little scary but if I can get the work I don't mind paying out for it, but since I do garden maintenance and arb its a fine balance? To jump or not, this is the decision to make Thanks in advance James
  8. I'll never forget where I was when this happened, sitting in the office of the koi carp store at which I had a summer job, the bosses where due to fly out of heathrow the next day when they phoned to say what had happened - we had no telly or radio at the shop. RIP all those who lost their lives that day, and since the event, and thoughts to their families.
  9. We did the Eden project in the morning and then Heligan after a liquid lunch. It depends on what you like but again it was Heligan for me. Here is a useful list: Cornwall Outdoors - 634 Cornwall Shops - TripAdvisor
  10. Welcome to the forum Chris I've been advising Chris via facebook on the best route into the industry and I hope there is someone out there seeking an enthusiastic keen chap for brash dragging or similar who can give the guy a start. Read lots and enjoy arbtalk Chris
  11. Welcome to the modern era I've liked the page and look forward to more mog porn :-) J
  12. Look at something around 6000 gph / 30000 lph. Splashing water does create good aeration but an air compressor back up for hot weather with suitable air stones / diffusers are a lot more efficient and the fish love them. Consider a caged pump rated for continuous use and avoid any sump pump like units. ( I used to deal in Japanese koi and run a koi shop on a lake complex - PM me if you need any advice on a pump you find) J
  13. Thanks for the input everyone, I will give them a call this week, thanks James
  14. You can simply sit a pulley under the pussik using a karabiner to act as a fairlead. However on a normal prussik loop this can be a bit clumsy and inefficient. Its better to go over to the hitch climber pulley system using a Ocean Polyester eye 2 eye or similar using a Valdotain Tresse (VT) or a Knut acting as the friction hitch. This can be seen on this video: Hitch climber setup - YouTube A variation of this is the O Rig system which there are posts on here about but see: Advanced climbing techniques | O-rig climbing system James
  15. Befriend the local farmer with a fire pile and compost heap, I pay a fiver a load which equates to a trailer load which is around 6 bulk bags of waste (depending how high I fill it )
  16. I think the road tow was around the £15k mark but I can't be sure as I looked at so many chippers that day and until someone comes up with a decent quote for finance it makes no difference
  17. Visited Saltex last week and saw the new tr6 on the jensen / forst stand. Had the low down on the features and it certainly impresses me on specs and build quality. I was looking at the road tow but may well get a price for both when the finance people ring me this week. Its supposed to be top end of the 6inch market but I think the 3 yr warrenty and build quality outweigh the extra costs.
  18. Has anyone used Arblease recently? Been reading up on their website and it looks perfect for my situation at the moment. I am in need of a chipper and truck as the tree surgery side of my business has taken off more than I can cope with using a trailer and bashing down methods. Anyone used them?
  19. If in doubt, fire things at it Looks like a job for a confident feller or MEWP
  20. Going on the photo, dangerous idea in itself, id put in for a day on it and probably be done by 3pm at the latest. Given the phone line my quote would have been in the middle between those two prices given in post 1. J
  21. Id have absolutely no problem in buying and using them but only a total 10% donation to the cause is a bit tight IMO?
  22. Best advice, get someone else in who has more experience and you be the second climber - even put an ad on here for an experience climber, go and price it together and get a great learning experience and a days wage from it.
  23. Mark, Try CWPlant in Ashford - Powered Access Or I met these guys at the Kent County show and they had a fair big tracked machine there - Cherry Picker Hire Kent, Access Platform Hire London, Essex - who are in rochester. If you need an operator for the day and get stuck then give me a call - I have IPAF ticket for Cat 1b Static Boom & Cat 3b Mobile Boom plus NPTC up to cs39 etc. James
  24. Alas welcome to everyone's problem, its been discussed in the past - make it more widely available and perhaps more would follow it. Good luck in your quest
  25. Ever the one for self promotion... I have a few clients in Sittingbourne and would welcome the opportunity to quote for work. My details are all on: KENT Gardening & Tree Surgery | KENT Gardening & Tree Surgery
