  1. I suspect if you had cut it to thin it would be very susceptible to splitting whilst drying. Thanks Andy

    Ratting

One thing we used todo when working young ferrets was cope them ,it stops them killing down the hole making them easer to get out.(cope them is to tie there mouth shut so they couldn't bite) suppose you could do this if you wanted to work them on rats

    Ratting

Never had a problem, they nearly always get nipped buy the rats, just rinse the wound in salt water. I had one terrior that used to catch them but not kill them straight away as he was to busy watching for another rat.the rat would bight him and he would just give a little growl. He was a great rat catcher. He used to dig them out and get so much mud rammed in his mouth I had to prize it out with my fingers

    Ratting

About 20 years ago we had a local terrior pack called the norfolk rat catchers who used a hunting horn to gee them up. we used a big bowser full of water and flooded them out,we had about three hundred one morning, lots of terriers.great fun.also have used a scud, any sort of portable 2 stroke engine with a oiley mixture and put the exhaust down the holes

  18. Thanks for your reply, just out of curiosity do you no what some of the main section weighed. There is chart for weight of green logs in the back of the art and science of practical rigging, example weight of a 1 foot section based on average diameter redwood, coast 24" = 157lb per cu ft. Not trying to be anal but just curious. Thanks
  19. Do you work out the weight and length of each section of trunk so determining we're to cut so that the crane is working within SWL or is a guestamate using your experience from previous jobs bearing in mind different weights for different trees?
