  1. Thanks, The weather is always interesting with Nathalie... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPJblb2ALeg N
  2. Hi Jon Clear blue sky & 25 degrees! N
  3. Hi Its a forum, everyone has a right to an opinion. As posted we pay 60 euros a stere, thats about £52 at current exchange rates. N
  4. Hi, We have an old insert style log burner soon to be replaced with a Village A & a small Rayburn, which does a few radiators, hot water & unlimited cooking, well almost. We absolutely love it, obviously we have to buy wood, but Oak is 60 a stere delivered & we probably go through about 8 or 9 dependant on temperature as it can get fairly cold in January here. To lower our electricity bill we have fitted LEDs for lighting, bought A++ rated devices & avoid leaving anything switched on unnecessarily. Our lowest winter bill gas & elec was 66 euros for 3 months with about 25 euros for bottled gas as the gas hob runs off that. The comfort factor from this is excellent & we wouldnt swap for anything. N
  5. Hmm, Makes French seem quite straight forward, after all a lot of English words ie those ending ion are the same. If I forget a word I just say it like the gendarme in 'allo allo' & usually not far off or they correct me! N
  6. Hi, Excellent place to get one from, they were very helpful on the phone, assisting selection of batteries & charger - which is capable of charging a wide range of LiOn & NiMH cells. Recommended N
  7. Hi Home made Pineau made from redcurrants and blackberries & tastes like a fairly good port & a couple of glasses of Roche Mazet vin de pays d'Oc. N
  8. Hi all, I have just obtained a TK75-2 from LED Torches, Head Torches, Flashlights & Torch Accessories. From EagleTac, ThruNite, Jetbeam & many more... who were very helpful along with four 3400 Ma/Hr 18650 LiOn batteries & Nitecore i4 charger which will also charge other types and sizes of battery. Its very well engineered so not cheap but the light it gives out is nothing short of astonishing, unbelievable brightness illuminating objects hundreds of meters away like daylight. An additional switch cycles through 4 settings, so battery life is extended at lower light settings, the lowest is about the same as a standard torch, the next is bright after that its like car headlamps on full & max like a lighthouse on steroids. OK, this may be OTT but its very bright & perfect for lamping or any other application that demands lots of light. N
  9. Hi, Very well done to your O/H for sussing the scam, top marks! correct MS will never call customers directly. It did make me smile as we are Mac based & being a techie for many years they are rather well defended & sit behind a very strong two tier firewall. N N
  10. Hi, Most small biz people I know enrol under the Auto Entrepreneur scheme, this is for single person employment and will also give you & your wife (if married) a carte vitale for health care. if not then you are looking at £2500+ per person annually, so may be an idea to consider this. I would also enrol in French lessons as its going to be fairly important to have some command of the language, once you get here the nearest large town should have an AVF organisation (Accueil des Villes Françaises) which following singup provides free French lessons. UNAVF - AVF - Accueil des Villes Françaises Bon chance N
  11. Hi all, Vin rose followed by a Glengoyne. N
  12. Hi all, 'Je ne comprenez pas' generally does the trick & they soon give up N
  13. Hi all, Best one Ive had was a call from 'Microsoft Technical Support' (who never call anyone) to tell me my PC had a virus. This is a fairly well known scam. Needless to say they got told to Foxtrott Oscar. N
  14. Hi Jon, 24 degrees & sunny today though, hopefully like this all week now Satellite is now fixed to record 'Strictly Come Dancing' for Mrs NFG although there are some well fit lasses in it N
  15. Hi all Massive storm last night, gusty wind, monsoon rain & continuous lightening for about 2 hours. Tore down several branches on an Ash down the bottom of the garden, satellite maybe knackered think its the LNB. However back to normal soon, 23 degrees & sunny forecast. N
  16. Hi I havnt picked up yellow pages in about 10 years, that was before we moved to France. TBH the Internet has taken over from yellow pages which has complete rip off prices & probably very little return, IMO. N

Hi, Nice photograph of your 460 Rowan, looks great with the tractor, splitter in the back ground & on a beer keg to boot! N
  19. Hello, Sausages with mash & celeriac, ratatouille, wild mushrooms & spinach. Mushrooms donated by our kind neighbour who we swap veg with, everything else apart from sausages home grown. Yummy N
  20. Hi This may help, or try Google.fr in French AngloINFO French Riviera: living in and moving to the Cte d'Azur, France Bon chance N
  21. Hi all, The pinion for the tractor mower starter motor was so worn it wouldnt engage one day so I removed & flipped it over on the spindle to allow the remaining but skinny teeth to engage and start the engine. N
  22. Hi Agreed, I have recently bought 365XT whilst I dont use it as intensively as you chaps do, I am very happy with it. I did consider a 460 but thats a lot more money whilst the 365xt was about the same price as a Stihl 391. N
  23. Hi We call them 'Voiture de Pastis' - no prize for guessing why & the twits who have to overtake them no matter whats coming in the other direction. N
  24. Hi Yes, thats a mantis, we get quite a few, not harmful though. There are a few things to watch out for apart from the obvious snakes that generally disappear once you start making a noise; they are: 1. Processional caterpillars, large orange & black very furry catapillars which make small nests in pine trees & form a procession when they move on, if touched the furry bits can cause breathing difficulties and bring on severe athsma attacks to those vulnerable. 2. Frelons a very large wasp whose sting can cause anaphylactic shock & kill vulnerable people. 3. Scorpions, but havnt seen any yet, grow & dry lavender (as in 'A Good Year') it does work to deter them. GIYF for more We have an Aspivenin which is a syringe & sucker for removal of poison from stings & bits & actually used yesterday when out walking we discovered a wasps nest. Take care N
  25. Made me smile, but when will they stop writing ambiguous code & mucking around with standards they dont adhere to? I think IE still permits active X extensions to run - yuk One nice utility I forgot was Sandbox IE, it works with IE (obviously!), FF & a few other browsers. It sandboxes (isolates) the browsing process, this may be part of IE9 but theres a lot of IE 7 & 8 still around. Anything malicious is prevented from running, the link below explains it well Sandboxie - Sandbox software for application isolation and secure Web browsing N
