  1. Not really, this will probably bring howls of dissaproval but if you do through life costings with Mac as my clients used to demand, then it works out more or less the same. As you state the resale values usually hold up well too. What works quite well is to export the old PC to a virtual machine running on VM Ware Fusion which is useful during the transition period, have cake and eat springs to mind.
  2. I would have thought a 1mm groove would not be sufficient to lose the drive from the sprocket and it would make a fairly horrible noise if it did. Can you post a pic? I think, with the engine off, if you put the chain brake on then try and rotate the chain manually it would demonstrate if the spur drive is slipping or driving ok.
  3. Hello and welcome, So, examine the 16" Stihl chain for the cutter & DL number then ID it correctly so you can see what bar it fits to: Go to https://www.chainsawbars.co.uk/chain-id-table/ Look at far LH column for Stihl chains and see if the pitch & gauge match whats stamped on your 362 20" bar (apart from the legth). If the chain is in good nick then it may be worth getting a bar for it if the chain pitch and gauge matches, otherwise hang it up in your shed.
  4. “We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to.” Just one of many reasons why a certain OS will never feature on any computer I own.
  5. Hello and welcome At a guess it could be that you use what fuel is primed into the carb then it cuts out because the impulse line is not working properly. Some one will be along with ten times more knowledge than I have to confirm this or not.
  6. "The saw revs high in the cut, the chain slows down and then stops altogether, although the engine is still at high revs. " Would that be the clutch slipping then? would have thought it would be smoking though holding revs.
  7. Exactly what I was thinking, I'm no expert in this area but it did look a bit ragged to me.
  8. Oh dear, have you been watching in the woods?
  9. Steve, I'm sure there is a lot that can be done to give it legs. If this is going to be a benefit to Arbtalk then I am only too happy to assist. PM me as required. N
  10. The MPro 5.1 is one of the best ever, it's great to see them still doing useful work. At my last job as a network admin I used Windows 2003 server as my desktop OS because it was so much better than any of the other operating systems from MS, you know like people keep cutting with Husqvana 288s.
  11. ?? Yes and bootable. Your 2011 MBP can go to 16Gb as well . Perhaps we should start a 'pimp my Mac' thread?
  12. Well, sort of, but people think you can't tweak Macs much whereas the Mac Pro has masses of options, mine now has a 6core 3.46 Xeon and put a USB-C card on it as well.
  13. If you have a MacPro 5.1 with the 140.0.0.0 bios you can add a Kyro Aqua M2 on the PCie bus with a 1Tb NVME blade like Samsung EVO 970 (the first one not the Plus version) and it absolutely flies, like one o Spuds saws
  14. I've been Mac based since 2005 and whilst the later ones are very good, they are somewhat restricted in terms of conectivity and command a very high price. They also last rather well, the one I'm typing this on is a 2011 model and my Mac Pro I have run my small computer business on for many years is a 2009 one. I expect them both to last at least another 5 years. So, if you want simplicity and reliability with great choice take a look at MacFinder https://macfinder.co.uk Ive several very happy clients who have purchased from them and they supplied my MacPro a few years ago. I still use Windows XP, 7 & 2003 server, as you can run almost any version of windows on a Mac under VM Ware fusion. You can even export your old PC and run it as a virtual machine as well. Thankfully, I will never have to use windows 10. N
  15. I did a bit more research on Dandrite, the crystals that build up in Li-on cells which can lead to a fire. I read a number of publications on the subject and also prevention of it occuring with the development of a graphene skin to contain the crystal growth. AFAICS any Li-oN battery which has a significantly reduced capacity or appears excessively warm whilst charging or discharging then consider it may be best to avoid using it as a fire could occur, which seemed more common during charging. Hopefully, the inbuilt battery protection sould cut in first!
  16. Swiss product with a Frenchman in the video? my guess is £4500 - £5000 to ensure minimal sales
  17. Yes, they are usually shipped with about 40% charge which provides optimal storage life They look a good alternative to the Makita ones
  18. Oh err, looks like I got mine just in time as shipped yesterday, the 13" should cut like a train on the 346. Many thanks for the good deal
  19. Its been found that Li-on batteries can suffer similar memory effect, by frequent partial discharge before re-charging but not to the same degree as Ni-Cads. I believe it is best to use them almost completely before fully re-charging although this is not always pratical, but not be completely discharged flat. There is an issue with internal crystal growth caused by rapid charging if the battery gets too hot, hence the fairly powerful cooling fan on the Makita LXT charger along with temp monitoring during charge. The crystal growth eventually leads to an internal short and battery fire. Whilst no one likes the 'battery intelligence' these things have when they refuse to accept charge there is a reason for it! It would be useful if the Makita charger had a selector to provide a lower charge rate when rapid charge was not needed and a 'refresh charge' option to discharge to minimum then re-charge at a slow rate to maximum capacity. Just my thoughts. N Edit: I have a few Makita LXT tools and batts, including a 36 V (2 x 18V) strimmer, which despite initial reservations is actually very good.
  20. Hi Rob, And also some very good deals on 13" sugi bars and chains.
  21. Which one did you get for her then Stuart? Keeps the coin on the family, lower turnover, higher profit. the 'lower turnover' made me smile!
  22. No, but I'm sure the OP wouldn't be too happy if it went over in a gale, hence the question. There is a fairly large sail area at the top which combined with lots of rain could cause it to go over.
  23. I'd prune it to about 6" , it'll soon sprout new growth. Eucs are very shallow rooted and like yours grow tall and spindely very quickly.
