  9. Yep I think you are not pushing it forward hard enough . There should be some initial resistance and then an audible " click " and the band will snap on . Probably needs to be on the saw to do it unless you can clamp the whole assembly to the bench with a G clamp or similar .
  10. Never liked hard nosed bars . Sprocket nosed are available for your Stihl .....
  11. This is the bit that is frack to bunt . Normally you push ( with the back of your wrist ) the handle away from the saw body ( toward the bar ) and this engages the brake . You then pull it back toward you to disengage the brake . As said something is worn/assembled wrong .

    Don't think I have any but, I am 70 and my memory is failing πŸ™‚ Oh wait . just thought of one . Back in the day I went on a Track day/coaching thing at Donnington . We used Ron Haslems Fireblades . They were fitted with telemetry . I was slow obviously , compared to Ron but .... wait for, it Unbeknown to me ( until telemetry was looked at ) I was quicker than him into Red Gate and out of it ( the first corner from the start , a late apex before Cranner curvs ) and I am keeping that ! 😁
