  1. Someone mentioned earlier that their 280 gets really hot so they put some foam on the housing to stop it burning their leg.. Will I need to register my saw with echo somehow or just get in touch with them regarding the recall? I'm actually pretty happy with my saw, would just like more info
  2. Yeah after the umpteenth time of taking it off and putting it on for it to pop out as soon as the case was tightened on I decided that's the way it was meant to be haha
  3. At least that's my take on the it? Clogged filter = crap in the cut and flooding the saw causing it to cut out as soon as you take your finger off the trigger. I may talk to echo UK to see what they say about it though...! Also, it would be interesting to hear from you guys having this issue and whether this sorts the problem?
  4. I mentioned earlier in the thread, I found that the air filter has to be almost completely spotless for it to run properly, otherwise there is a loss of power in the cut and the saw can be heard '4-stroking'. Everytime the saw gets like this I clean the filter using an air line and that seems to do the trick.
  5. Yep! Glad it's not just mine
  6. And well done! Gotta love a bit of metal fab
  7. Hmm I think your problem may be one of a kind. Or at least very specific. Is it that you ride your bike to and from work? Could you look at getting one of those electric motors installed to give your body a break? I saw a video somewhere where someone used a chainsaw to power a push bike.... ?? Sorry I can't be of any more help!
  8. I think tree kit run an emergency first aid course focused around arb, and from what I've heard it's a good course, around £100??
  9. forgot to mention can tow with B+E licence as well. thanks
  10. I may be wrong here, but i don't think cherry would respond very well if at all to being coppiced
  11. Cherry usually don't respond very well to hard pruning. Malus can cope with that kind of treatment. Not similar to laurel in that respect
  12. Heya all, looking for work on the above dates (2nd being next month) I've got: CS 30/31/38/39/chipper RFS qualification in arb Approx 4 years experience Lolered climbing kit Climbing saw & ground saw 4x4 pick up Good work ethic & easy going Usual day rate is £120 Willing to have a go at anything and can negotiate day rate depending on the task at hand (within reason) Based in Dartmoor, Devon, am willing to travel! Contact me through here or email [email protected] (phone is at the menders until the end of this week) Thanks! Max
  13. yeah their prices are enough to make grown men cry. just topped it up and its used about 100mm so not as bad as i thought, milners 4x4 seem to stock the part i need. A workshop manual would be good !
  14. Heya all, just noticed a leak coming from the front diff where the drivers side drive shaft goes in. Does anyone know how much of a job it is to change the seal? Ta
  15. Heya Joe, yeah that's what I was thinking. I only think I'll attempt it if I've got the tools to make a nice job of it - I took the spark arrestor off and that made a huge difference considering! I think I'll invest in the 150 cutting gear before anything else
  16. Thanks guys, though how much play before its too much? Seems like excessive play in the top end. I've had all of those issues with the clutch side of the saw, so keep a pretty good eye on that.
  17. Heya all, got a 261 on the bench, owned it for 4 years and not touched it. its developed a hard starting (and smokey when it does start) issue, I've changed the plug and cleaned the filter, no change... makes a rattle when it does run and has started cutting out on tickover. still makes good power when in the cut/revs up fine etc. makes a rattling noise from the top end (i think, might be imagining it?) Ive pulled the head off and theres a fair bit of play in the top end. very slight side to side play in the conrod... what sort of play should i be looking for in a 261? i think im going to start from there and see what happens. the bore and piston look great with no pick up or anything like that, so am keen to keep it going. thanks !
  18. yeah I do that, eat well throughout the day and then go into twilight feeding mode when I get home
  19. i had a look the other day and the exhaust has been braised shut, looks like a bit of surgery with some sort of dremil type tool to get it open ? not ready to do that to my saw yet.... haha
  20. haha thanks, completely forgot about this thread to be honest!
  21. Few more. The last one is my favourite, managed to mess with the levels in photoshop, far more subtle than the others !
  22. and yeah, the saw has a rev limiter so even if its running really lean it will still clatter off of the limiter, makes it a bit harder to tell whats going on with the saw - what i did was tune it rich, and then take some time with it in some big sycamore today and slowly lean the saw out again until it stops '4 stroking' in the cut. yet to do a plug chop. I'm not a saw mechanic! ideally you would want a tach i suppose. I'm going to keep a close eye on the spark plug i think!
