  1. Haha right you are. Well all the parts arrived today, so I set about building the saw back up. Did both the bearings on the bottom end while I was at at, and put the oil seals in while the cases were spilt, which was much easier.. Got it all back together, and it still ran like crap! Managed to find another non piston pump zama carb kicking about so put that on, and hey presto! Admittedly the carb that was on there was a copy. So the saw has more or less had a complete rebuild.. I've learnt a lot as well! Thanks for the input will take it out tomorrow and see how it goes
  2. They sound good! Can they be had on the net?
  3. Last one I did came in 1St with 80 to 1 odds so
  4. So I used a socket and tried to tap it in, but ended up breaking a seal, so I then tried to press it in, resulting in breakage.
  5. This is a learning experience for me don't forget!
  6. With newer stuff, you might get an fault code thrown at you if you block the egr valve. So it could be that yours is blocked or something? It's literally a plate that goes between the valve and a return pipe from the turbo (?) I bought mine off of eBay for £4
  7. I was using the clutch to try and press the oil seal in... Blew the threaded end of the crank of before the seal pressed in.. I did read that they are hard work but didn't appreciate how hard it would be! Got excited at the idea of a working saw and pushed to hard I guess... D'oh
  8. Great! Mine kept spitting the rope out the other day, well annoying
  9. Well, I managed to snap one side of the crank off, do now the saw is in bits.... I've got a good feeling that it should run once it's back together! Interestingly, the piston was all carboned up? But the plug was biscuity brown in color..
  10. Haha thanks spud! In my defence I did the pot and piston because the plug thread was damaged, and upon pulling out apart discovered pick up on the exhaust side, The old carb was the piston pump type and wasnt playing ball, so I swapped that for one with out. The impulse line had a split in it, so I went ahead and changed all the 'perishables' Admittedly it is an up and down experience. I really enjoy working with engines and stuff, the down side being that I need the saw for work, which does take the edge off when the saw refuses to run properly. Seems a waste to chuck it away and buy new - as they have their own problems as well. When blowing down the impulse line, can I blow into the crank and then into the handle/housing? Thanks
  11. I'll have to nuke it from space, just to be sure though..
  12. Aka spud? I think there's something wrong with the impulse line at the crank end...
  13. If I ever get around to it I wouldn't mind taking off the intake manifold just to see how much stuff has collected there.. I'll be sure to post pics if I do!
  14. Haha I would took about 5 mins to do!
  15. Hello again! The problem persists... I can not get this saw to run properly (so far) So far it has had New carb Pot and piston (for what it's worth) Fuel line & breather Impulse line Carb boot The issue I have is that it will not tick over with the carb set up properly (1 turn out on the h&l screw) If i have the l screw really lean, at about a quarter of a turn out it will then tick over for a period of time, but is quite racey and eventually cuts out. Plus under load it usually bogs down. Bit of a pig to work with! The idle screw seems to make no difference at all in both instances... Someone help!! Haha
  16. Sorry to hi Jack the thread, was there a 01 and 10 moddle saw made in the dolmar/makita family? As in 7910 7901? Or was it just one variation of the 7900? Hope that makes sence!
  17. Had mine out today and its an animal!
  18. Well I put it together today, not had a chance to run it, but the build quality looks great. Photos make it look a bit plastic fantastic but I'm glad to say that's not the case. Hopefully get it going tomorrow!
  19. Okay so was getting about 26 mpg over a week of mixed commuting now getting 29. Not in any rush ever! Discovered a hole in the intercooler so once that's replaced there should be a difference also. Ta!
  20. Just ordered one, for those who can afford it, order two! Haha
  21. Hi Doobop, that's what I wanted to hear! Haha. How are you getting on with the saw in general, anything to look out for/be aware of?
  22. I think the engines are fairly bomb proof, old ivecos are prone to getting a bit rusty?? I think I would be a simple enough machine - getting spares for the 4x4 system could be difficult? Plus electric gremlins that would be in any vehicle that old.. Looks a lovely truck though
  23. So now I am wondering if you can open the muffler up and remove the Gubbins to bring the power up? Thanks
  24. Time and a place! Chasing cord sized stuff around with a back handle chainsaw sucks!
