  1. Same as mine I think..... http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/rigging-roping/37157-tirfor-id-please.html
  2. And more time on the tv girls thread......
  3. I'm very new to srt in general, but really getting on with my wrench and hitch now. I've set up a rope walker using a pantin and croll for access and it really is just like climbing a ladder. I don't bother switching to ddrt with the wrench, I'm using that line for access only or srtwp. If I want ddrt I set a pulley saver and a separate line to work from. I'm still fettling the tending of the hitch on ascent, I don't really like the neck elastic concept..... All in all, apart from a few set up specific shortcomings I personally have I reckon I'm doing ok on it. I'm going to give some serious thought to what redirects I make up, I think that's where SRT can blow ddrt away, the possibilities are endless! I don't really find the slack tending a particularly big issue, certainly no worse than climbing the tree itself with a doubled rope attached. I'll tentatively say I'm a convert!
  4. Nice report Rob, well put together, I'd be happy if I'd commissioned that......
  5. Likewise the idiot who put his foot into the chipper..... This kid sounds like he was a Darwin Award waiting to happen
  6. Just got to toughen him up now without turning him off!

    First saw

A friend has a 435 easy start. Weird contraption. Nice enough saw but personally I wouldn't have a fancy version of it. Stick with the basic one, save a few quid now and in the future. And long term a 'homeowner' saw will be fine if bought new and looked after. A second hand pro saw is on the back foot already. My first saw, which I bought about 1997 I think, was a stihl 025, mid range 'farmer's saw', I still have it and it still runs like a dream.
  8. Justin sorted me out with a Petzl Aspir. Nice little harness. He's used it in trees and at a climbing wall and he says it's comfy.... Decent quality too as you'd expect....
  9. Just made up a first 'proper' lanyard for my 6 year old son.... 4m of Silverstreak, 8mm Marlow db, screw gate gecko, petzl oscillante and a bent gate gecko. Cheap and cheerful but better than the old cord and long prusik he has been using, and no fiddly locking gate on the end he needs to move.... Bent gate has a retention rubber on it as well to make sure he doesn't lose the krab hopefully the weather will be good enough for him to try it this weekend.... He's still a fair weather climber!
  10. I had no idea you were so old Mike! You poor old crock! If you're fit (in a strictly platonic way of course) I see no reason why you shouldn't get on just fine. You might not be a squirrel like someone 10 years your junior but I'm 32 and even after a couple of long wet days with my low levels of fitness I can still move about a bit! And I'm an infrequent climber so my climbing muscles are WAY out of condition! Go for it.....
  11. Thanks Chris, will do.
  12. Yes, don't think I'll be breaking any!
  13. Update on this one.... Just spoken to our client and I've been asked to 'throw this in' with a re-roof which is over budget.... Spec has changed a little now to 1 big welli and a smaller pine. Permission has now been granted to remove. Would need to be sectional dismantle and can be left as a stump. Chip can be stockpiled on site and they want to keep the wood [god knows why!] Would need to be done in the Easter holidays. Think I'm looking for a 3 or 4 man team [climber, 2 groundies & chipper operator] with their own chipper & tipper. Anyone interested in looking at this?
  14. Also a good point.... better make sure I don't clip into the last eye!
  15. Snakeanchor is nylon double braid.... which I believe has better shock absorbing properties than my kermantle static....? I'm not expecting it to be like a bungee but it's got to make some difference!
  16. £65 for a Zubat 330 though! You could approach Foxley direct and they'll tell you where to get one I imagine Enquiries, UK - Silky Fox They're quite approachable but not quick to respond from memory!
  17. I have Edelrid Superstatic, not bouncy, nice with OP, not so nice with Beeline. Snakeanchor should be here today which will give a little bit of damping for drops... [i like to base anchor]
  18. I'd agree with that. Our approach is air leakage prevention, insulation, photo voltaics and micro controlled electric heating. Relatively low install cost, minimal maintenance, low waste. We did 600 student bed sits last summer. This summer we should do more....
  19. Adam you HERETIC!
  20. Honestly..... Avoid. We get involved with them but really, anywhere north of the English riviera and you're wasting your time. Good in theory but maintenance is essential and in the winter, when you really need it to work, it doesn't very well, they run electric elements in them to warm the air coming in, and the condensate drains have a tendency to freeze up. There are better systems.....
  21. Is the vin plate laminated paper held on with wood screws? And who says the Chinese cut corners!
  22. All about perspective isn't it! When I think about how much lead I have discarded into the atmosphere in my life, 100% has come from shotgun cartridges and, er, 0% from broken throw bags! Of course, the answer isn't petzl's recyling programme, it's a rope knight!
  23. You need to go into advanced down there \/, pick manage attachments and upload photos from your hard drive, the way you're trying to do it is for stuff which is already 'on the web'
  24. If that's right and it's tidy, free plus 200 quid is still a cheap izy....
  25. A curious blend of stihl and husky design.... Can you open a case and get your money back?
