  1. Like what they said...
  2. That could have ended so much worse, and with more hilarity, than it did! I still piss my pants at the melon one from page 3....
  3. It's on the birthday list!
  4. That is most undeniable
  5. It's that central services again!
  6. I use Aeris and 8mm Beeline. It's fine, not as easy in the hand as 13mm rope but I haven't found it to be a problem.... Hitch works like on anything else, just have to get it set up...
  7. I can't throw a weight 25 to 30 feet with any accuracy!
  8. Have done some more experimenting with this today. All went well, apart from a couple of minor issues. The first was the obvious bodged mounting to the pole. This has now been fixed and as well as being more stable, it looks a bit neater.... The other issues are not quite so straight forward.... The golf ball flies a treat, doesn't bounce off branches in any particularly spectacular way, however.... It don't come back down! I'm going to experiment a bit further with adding weight to it, but that's going to limit the achievable height, which really is 'only just' useful as it is.... The alternative, which would help both up and down, is a lighter line. As much as I enjoy fiddling, fettling and problem solving, this is all just highlighting how much I really want a big shot!
  9. I have now contributed
  10. I feel fortunate then to have no idea what one is...! I will resist the urge to Google it....
  11. Click on the link! http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/maintenance-help/53612-what-grease.html
  12. You missed one Steve.... 'Online because there is no local retailer'. That doesn't count for machinery obviously, but it does for climbing & rigging gear I've found that there's actually not that great a selection of places to buy gear out in the provinces, certainly not to the Jones/Honeys/Clarks/Gustharts standard anyway.... I would much prefer to handle / try before I buy, and supporting local retailers is a pet project, but needs must, I rely on feedback from others and buy online, recently all from the same place because their price and service is excellent, and they do physically have a shop you can walk into. I won't buy from online only warehouse type retailers. I think if I could physically shop locally [by which I mean within 30 or 40 miles of home] I would, and it would change my purchasing habit a great deal....
  13. Wonder how much it cost to 'rebrand' the units...? Obviously money well spent, the old system was clearly unworkable.....
  14. The hyperdog has legs Tony! You do need a big throw to launch something heavy enough to bring a throw line back down. Anything hand held I just don't think will cut it. Unless it's a crossbow of course! I'll try to film it. Somehow....
  15. I used this stuff... Rope making shrink-wrap per metre (adhesive) | F R Jones and Son 2 layers of this and mine was rock hard....
  16. At least the labelling is accurate, so that's progress....
  17. I'm beginning to think that for a throw weight to work really well, it needs to be solid rather than full of granular material. Even this Heath Robinson codge up of a thing launches and flies so much more cleanly. Of course, it's yet to be tried in anger!
  18. It's about 6 ounces I reckon, but that's on 'not very precise' kitchen scales.... I'll double check it on the digital postal scales at work tomorrow!
  19. More please!
  20. I was tinkering with it in unmodified handheld form this morning but as your groundie knows, it's a bit tricky! Mounted on the pole it can be inverted like a proper big shot so that it fires from underneath and the line runs straight out the cube without getting snagged round anything.
  21. Slide is reserved for tea breaks and unloading!
  22. I haven't tried it in 'those sort of canopies' yet, but I don't expect it to bounce TOO badly, the head of the bolt leads and that doesn't have any bounce in it. Where did I see a picture of your high ball....? I'll get the kitchen scales out and endeavour to weigh it for you! I'll take some close ups of the hyperdog as well......
  23. Stupid thing.....
  24. And here's the golf ball....
  25. Success! Albeit moderate.... The throwbag was going nowhere, particularly vertically, so having seen these golf ball throw weights I thought I'd knock one up myself.... Drilled it out, tightened an m8 bolt through it, drilled through the nylon nut and thread and installed the strongest key ring I could find on the hooks.... I was as amazed as anyone to find it works..... I think I can now put a bit of effort into refining the mounting on my painting pole to take out the flex in the ball collector part of the slingshot but all in all I have new faith in this odd looking contraption.... It actually fires it remarkably high and with pretty good accuracy....
