Terrible advice. As has been said, get some experience on the deck and see if you like the job. It's often glamourised, and there are great times. A lot of merciless slogs too. It's not for everyone, but those that like it love it (or in my case didn't try hard enough in school).

No harsher than blaze. Blaze goes like wire when taut! I bought some 11.5mm Tachyon, and while it's a good rope, and easier on the hands, it feels a lot thicker than its supposed .2mm difference.

Blaze is true 11mm, pretty thin stuff. Most of the 11.5-7mm stuff feels a lot thicker than the half mil difference. I really like Velocity. It's technically 11.3 but feels more like 11. Very soft and incredibly light. Runs beautifully with 8mm cord (armour Prus is a good one) on a hitch climber or wrench.

Sounds like it would be fairly easy to accidentally operate the trigger like that... I used to do that until I elbowed the nose of the bar a few times.

Works on my 201t just fine mate. The Fisher Price 2511 has the attachment orientated horizontally, which puts the crab 90• the wrong way

I like my Echo over the Stihl but it seems to be luck of the draw with some. The echo is lighter and noticeably smaller (good for us more compact people) but the Stihl running gear is better (when new), the Sugi bar and chain is a bit slower but more forgiving. All told I'd go for the Echo with the Stihl b&c. You can't lose with either, but you're a mug if you don't buy one or the other. If you're still coming up this month you can borrow the Echo for a couple of weeks.

Really? I hate the thing. The krab is never facing the right way for an open caritool. It's fine if you chuck the saw and catch it by the krab, but for quick clipping it's a pain. I'm looking into making a bodge high clip point for my 2510. I think it'll involve araldite and a wire coat hangar. The missus keeps them in our "special drawer"

Being a "habitual beer monster" is no excuse. It is in fact an asset. I make a point of getting shitfaced the evening before a big dismantle. The tree comes down bloody fast. I tried it sober once, I'll never be so irresponsible again.

It won't affect the strength of it. Pop some leccy tape around it, you'll be fine.
