  1. I'd love to do a bit of large rigging but we rarely get the opportunity, plus we have a 6" Chippit, and the company I work for favours smaller bits that the ground crew can keep on top of easier. There are so many approaches to arb work, it's great to see how others do it, and have adapted their kit to take on their style!
  2. I don't think I've ever carried out anything less than 30%... ...I'll be needing a bigger silky!
  3. I don't think we're having an argument, are we? There is no right or wrong, just personal preference:001_smile:. I do attach my Silky to a line, but you're missing the most important point: I didn't know you knew that. For me I prefer it because with minimal kit on my belt I can treat it as a play climb, stopping occasionally to do a wee bit of work
  4. Depends on what jobs you do mate. If you've got a light thin and deadwood where you're only cutting small diameter branches why would you take a chainsaw? Even a 150 is unnecessary, and I prefer not no have a saw dangling from my harness unless it's needed. No fuelling, less sawdust, no noise, no extra weight, no untangling your saw strop. Pick any of the above.
  5. Not objecting to mma, used to train also, objection to your derogatory reference to the polish people. Sounds like what you want: hard work for cheap. And you're very welcome, anytime.
  6. Just when I was starting to wonder wether you were misunderstood... Thanks for reaffirming my first impressions that you are in fact a douche. Talking about your BJJ prowess whilst spewing xenophobia will not make you many friends here matey.
  7. That was really cool to watch, we never rig branches that big! We don't have the gear, and the groundy would weep! Well done lads, how long did it take you to finish? Adam, what was that corkscrew ratchety type thing you used to tip that limb?
  8. Sorry fella, looks like I won't be able to make it. Any other time though would be grand. The only saturday I'm busy really is the 26th.
  9. I can understand his view on wanting a new unskilled lad with a potential job on the line to show enthusiasm. Too often we all try out lads for the day and by about 10am you know they have no future with you. The team I work with consists of four. Two of us climb, but we all pitch in and share the work. Whatever it takes to be efficient. We don't have set roles, and given enough time, we like to give new lads opportunities, like felling a stem (under supervision).
  10. Andy, I wasn't trying to refer to old timers in general, just one in particular. Your post makes complete sense though, I try to set an example to those I am responsible for, in terms of productivity and efficiency. We hustle when needed, but don't make life harder than it has to be.
  11. Come on ol' timers, post a vid up of your work. Show us young pups how it's done? Unless you're chatting bollocks that is?
  12. Rate my stump dot com, let's not discriminate...
  13. Links not working for me eddy. What is it?
  14. Oh, a quick hypothetical if I may: You've been riding your groundy hard since 7am, running jumping and dancing back and forth from the chipper. Around 3pm YOU have an accident climbing. You really expect your lad to be able to rescue you safely and quickly? Good luck with that.
  15. Back in my day if the job wasn't done we'd sleep up the tree overnight and eat leaves for hydration.
  16. I'd rather my groundie worked at 80% speed 100% of the time than 100% for the morning and be burnt out and prone to silly mistakes by lunch. Unfortunately he drags his feet 80% of the time and still makes silly mistakes. (Once put my helmet into the chipper)
  17. I'm on S01E04 and so far it's weird but good. HBO also has some good ones. Generation Kill is well worth a watch. Stay Frosty!
  18. A male hairdressers near me called Legends has the slogan: "come in a man, leave a legend". Not incorrect, but either wickedly well or very poorly thought out!
  19. "No offense but..." = "I'm probably going to imply that you're a c***"
  20. By Spud's estimate I have another 5 weeks of being able to justify comments like that. Is being a grown up fun?
  21. Natanoko 60, with a bit of cord from the handle to the sheath, no more getting your silky sent back up to you!
  22. I used one for five minutes once, and liked it. I just didn't notice anything substantially better about it than a simple lanyard. I've already paid out for a grillon when I started climbing thinking expensive hardware must always be better, since it cost more. I realise now personal preference is what it boils down to. That said, I may buy one when I have a spare 80 quid and nothing more useful to buy!
