  1. I've got a laddomat on our setup - it helps a lot in getting the whole lot up to temperature. The effectiveness depends on distance to the tank too, as there are limits - 6m of pipe work sounds familiar. You can change the stats in them too Edit - Esse do a slightly cheaper copy of them.
  2. top tip - wear short sleeves and make sure you have a way of killing the engine easily accessible.
  3. Kettle of boiling water over it.
  4. I was just pondering prices and was wondering what strategy you guys use. Do you price to shift it quickly - fast turnover, perhaps smaller margins, but larger volumes OR use higher prices on the basis that others selling cheaper run out and leave you with a higher margin, but perhaps a smaller volume? And other than materials, time, insurance etc., what other factors do you include in your pricing structure?
  5. As its all very neatly stacked it there is probably more volume of wood than some of the cube bags or truck loads you get in which the logs are in at all angles.
  6. This ^ Go over 45p per mile and it gets complicated with HMRC.
  7. Nice explanation their Alec. It's always nice to see proper science explained simply.
  8. Sounds like a blockage somewhere. Sweeping the flue would be a good starting point.
  9. Franco belge are worth a look. We had a savoy before our boiler stove which was excellent - much much better than the Hunter Hawk it replaced.
  10. I've often wondered about this. More uneven should increase air flow, but if the stuff is split small enough, then it shouldn't matter as much.
  11. The pump in the laddomat runs in the operating phase - look at diagrams on page 2 of the manual - http://www.newhorizoncorp.com/PDF/Laddomat%2021%20Manual.pdf Either way, the pipe limitations are within the charging circuit. Adding an extra pump to this circuit should allow it to be increased in size?
  12. The pipe run is about 3m, but with a couple of 90 degree bends, which are supposed to equate to another metre? I think I read a figure of 6m maximum somewhere, but I can't find the details at the moment. I have wondered about whether you could simply add another CH pump into the loop for longer pipe runs. If it was all insulated properly and the second pump was controlled off the same flue stat, there should be no problem - but I'm not a plumber, and so there may be something I'm missing.
  13. I've got a laddomat between my Aarow boiler stove and thermal store. The main advantages are: 1. It stops cold water returning to the stove so it heats up quicker; 2. By keeping the temperature higher in the stove, it reduces condensation and subsequent corrosion; 3. We don't have a straight run between stove and store and there is a risk that the gravity circuit would breakdown and end up with the stove boiling without the pump; and 4. We have solar thermal panels plumbed into the store. If the laddomat wasn't there, there is a risk that the stove could act as a radiator and leak all the heat. You can play with different rated stats to get the system right for you. Also, esse do a copy which is exatly the same, but a bit cheaper. Oh and don't forget the flue stat to go with it.
  14. Cheers guys - looks like I'll have to try and find some wood turners!
  15. I've just got hold of a load of cherry which I'm going to cut and split by hand (3-8" diameter stuff) ready for next winter. I've read it burns quite slowly, so are there any tips about splitting / burning / seasoning I should consider? I'm going to leave the sub 4" diameter stuff unsplit - will this still season outside OK? Also, I was planning on mixing it with some faster burning softwood or birch when I'm using it. Owt else to think about? Ta
  16. Hi Folks I'm looking for a replacement handle / lock for my 07 Ranger (SJS Pro Products) canopy Anyone know where I can get one that wont involve me having to part with a kidney? £100 + vat seems a bit steep for something which looks like its a pattern part. Ta
  17. You sure that's not a euphemism for something?
  18. I did one in Manchester last year (Carrington IIRC). It was a fair cop, but 4 hours of the patronising double act which were supposed to be the instructors, was enough to wake me want to knaw my own arm off. They did a good cop bad cop routine. The bad cop thought he really was a cop, instead of the Institute of Advanced Motoring cardigan wearing wannabe that he was. He dressed down one of the attendees to the point where I considered making a complaint. I hear that some courses are quite good though!
  19. Interesting problem for him to have a look at down the road in Fife if he fancies a challenge Tree Surgeons? Will I die if I try this? Singletrack Forum

  21. 2 prices. One for payment on completion of job. One 25% more for payment on 30 day terms. You HAVE to have this clearly stated on the quote. It works for me.
  22. I think the availability of all of the wind blown stuff around at the moment has knackered it up here. It's only going to get worse as well, with the current winds. I was speaking to a guy from one of the tree companies that is doing call outs for the council and he said that their yard is chocka with cord at the moment. They are doing 1.5 cube of split and seasoned (trying to clear space for the freshly 'felled' stuff) hardwood for £70 delivered
  23. Any recommendations for colleges which run CS30 /31 courses in Scotland. I'm based in Perthshire, but could travel to somewhere with a decent reputation. Any recommendations? Ta
  24. Sorry, I wasn't clear. It's the pipes for the water that are preventing me from moving the stove. Flexi fittings on these would allow me to pull the stove out to get at the t piece.
