  1. Damn, could of helped you out a few weeks ago!
  2. Pabo Tree Services in North Wales.
  3. Taught me in the '90's at Merrist Wood as well. I hope he has a good retirement, its well deserved!
  4. I completely agree here. I really cannot see what other options you have. Sadly, once grief fades opinions change. When you lost your brother, you lost the business as well. Draw a line under it and start a fresh. You still have your clients details. Best of luck, very sorry for your loss. Makes you think.
  5. He's a good guy Dean. Not seen one of his full size cabins but seen a lot of his other work throughout Strathspey.
  6. Curtainsider Palletisied Depend on the weight of the timber, read moisture content. approx. 25T max.
  7. I work with this guy... http://www.wild-furniture.co.uk/ Does it the proper way.
  8. I think a lot of external independent assessors do know there stuff. Certainly they do in the Highlands. Colleges however, well.
  9. Like others, I have done it a short distance. I would not recommend it due to the height more than anything else. Hiab lorry is by far the best way.
  10. It's not about stopping rogues. It's about addressing complacency. Most individuals in this industry do not like negative feedback. It can't hurt to have someone look over your shoulder now and then and say 'watch that mate' or 'good stuff there'. My beef is with the poor subbie shouldering the cost yet again while the management companies take the cash and say look how switched on and wonderful they are to the HSE. Most people like some feedback now and then, particularly the younger guys and girls.
  11. Very true. We spent week learning the tools. I believe now you can get the basics in a few hours with an assessment. I want to see high quality apprenticeships.
  12. I go back to my earlier point. It's all about the money. There simply isn't the money in this industry to dramatically improve health and safety. Commercial pressure, peanuts and monkeys as was said earlier. What annoys me is the fact that the big boys like UPM, Fountains, Scottish Woodlands will embrace this and push it. While at the same time insisting their subbies are highly qualified and pay them a pittance. They'll win more work when it becomes mandatory and is requested at tender stage.
  13. Well said. However it will be the implementation that makes it sink or swim.
  14. Bandit finish has never been the best!
  15. I suspect whether it applies to arb or not wont make a jot of difference. Commercial Arb clients will get on board to be seen to be doing the right thing. They will request proof at quotation / tender stage. Domestic Arb won't be effected.
  16. It does say forestry but i'm sure this will cross over. News release FISA Chainsaw and Supervisor Refresher Training May 2013.doc Notice to organisations FISA Chainsaw and Supervisor Refresher Training May 2013.doc
  17. As always, it depends for what purpose?
  18. Derek is still going? Brilliant, a great guy.
  19. Been there done that! Didn't notice either. The office lass came out as she saw me on fire on the CCTV!!
  20. Are you getting dehydrated?
  21. PS Didn't mean that to sound confrontational!
  22. Tony are you CAS accredited? If not, how do you know it's easier? I've just joined and Mark seems like a very approachable chap. Just another box ticked IMO but it all helps.
  23. H&S compliance within the construction industry has improved safety. However, as an arb company going onto a construction site or working for larger companies etc. It is purely an arse covering exercise and I for one am sick of it. You jump through hoops to get on an 'approved list' which doesn't mean you'll ever even be asked to quote. You submit massive documents just to get on site. You pay ridiculously fees to companies to 'assess' your company and most know nothing about arb. Quite often you'll get questioned on site by a suit that has never seen a chainsaw before. And what does it all mean? It all gets put in a folder on a shelf until there is an accident when it's pulled out and waived in the air as part of an arse covering exercise. It'll all gone to far the other way now IMO.
