  1. Congratulations on your win Tommy! There' a lot to like about this
  2. Thanks everyone, loved the result, just not the journey. Good question, priced for one day but it probably took two. On top of that I wasted best part of a day cutting rot and metal out of the first log before giving up and using another piece. I'm turning the first wasted log into a doggy so its not a total balls up. Some jobs go better than planned, this was not one of those ;} At least the pig came out looking good. 5. Should have introduced her Dave Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  6. I've just ordered one of those body scanners security use, Garret one. I'll add a review soon as I've tried it. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app
  7. That's a great shark, good job. As said before agree a rough figure if not final price beforehand. I tend to ask what a clients budget is and work designs to suit, that way I'm not wasting time designing something way out of their price range. As for costing, your hourly/daily rate plus all business expenses.
  8. Hi, has anyone tried one of those Garret wands that security folk use for checking logs? Can they pick up small nails or are they only sensitive enough to locate knives and guns?
  9. I can't find the words to say what I want to but my heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family.
  10. Well, the makita power file is much better tool than the black and decker one and that is reflected in the price. For £25 or whatever it costs there's no real harm in trying it but for a reliable tool that will take years of hard work you'd be better to pay for quality. If you have or can get hold of a site transformer the 110v are usually cheaper both new and second hand.
  11. I personally would save for a long nose die grinder. I have an old short one and after watching a long nose one in use I realised that is the way to go. You have so much more control so therefore safer to use and you have the added option of getting into tight spaces too.
  12. Hey thanks Russell, yes shame you couldn't make it mate. Woodfest does force you to raise your game:001_smile: The only bit that worries me is faces, think I'll be doing a few practice heads before I commit to the final faces! Looking forward to carving up those massive oak mate.
  13. Thanks for the thumbs up guys, it's been a fun carve and a bit different from the usual stuff. There's another triplet of spears to come and some portraiture of some well known growers from the dim and distant past, which will be a hell of a challenge but I'm raring to get stuck in:001_smile:
  14. Nice job Dave, it was a great long weekend. my girls giggling? you must have broken a barrier, they'll be wrestling you next lol
  15. First of several sculpures/seating for a new trail celebrating Formby's history of asparagus farming.
  16. Simon O'Rourke likes his Makita's so they must be pretty reliable. I'd be interested to see if Husky bring out a back handle of the T540xp
  17. I would have a chat with Rob D on here (chainsawbars) Depends on what saw/saws you have and whether you can get a 1/4 sprocket for it. You really need at least two saws, one for blocking out and roughing the shapes you want, this could be done with a standard bar. And one for the detail, around 35cc. If you can get a carving sprocket to fit your saw then get a dime tip, if not then the 1/4 tip will run picco and be a big improvement on a standard bar. Rob will help you make the right choice I'm sure.
  18. Thanks for the lovely comments guys, Friarsgorse it was great to see you in the flesh. Yeh a pity goodpig, next time for sure mate.My kids were more interested in getting their faces painted and jumping on trampolines:001_rolleyes: Well i guess when you take into account all the speed carves it was probably about two and a half days mate.
  19. Cheers Geoffers but it sold mate, in fact all the carvings sold which doesn't happen often.
  20. No doubt some of you will be sick of seeing this as I've posted it all over various social media sites Tough:001_tongue: It's my best piece to date, carved at woodfest amongst great friends and peers.
  21. Damn, always the other end of the country

  23. Yeh I see that now, Dobby's love child
  24. that tickled me.
