  3. Really looking forward to this trip Nathen they look amazing, even more so in the snow
  4. You probably could do mate, but I like the fact that not also do the legs give it extra stiffness but the tips to the legs also help stop the wrench from falling into a neutral position Check out my whippel auction thread mate:thumbup1:
  5. nice one Simon good start:thumbup1: Thanks mate, its loads neater than the first one from yesterday, I just feel bad that I've been here over 3 Christmas now and never participated in the Xmas raffle so thought I would do a little to help out!
  6. So as a few of you know yesterday a ventured into the unknown and made myself a whippel tether. For those who don't know what it is! It's a tether for use with the rope wrench, but not only is it just a normal tether but it will allow the tether to stay central to the hitch and rope, the way it does this is due to its doubled eyed attachment points! So those who use a wrench that would like this tether all you have to do is BID! All proceeds will go to the children's trust which Steve Bullman can sort out for you on how to pay, and I will send the winning bidder the tether in the post once payment had been made. This will be the tether I'll send out, it a lot better than the original I did yesterday and with a ruff price tag of £40 The bidding will start now and will end tomorrow morning at 6am Good luck and happy bidding Adam
  7. Looks an awesome tree mate, do you know any of it statistics?
  8. Rob made me chuckle. Nice video mate, love the first bit, gotta love Brittany How long did it take on the road clear up? I take it your on tight time lines getting the roads reopened again! Look forward to another top stuff:thumbup1:
  9. Have you got a date in mind for this yet mate? Need to get something organised,
  10. Cheers lads, I'll let you have a blast on it when we meet up for a rec climb joe.
  11. It's solid with heat shrink mate, its stiffer than a ???? Well let's just say its stiff, I like the fact its done in clear wrap, the fact it shows everything is quite cool, gonna get myself a load of black and red wrap for my next one buddy!
  12. Ok so I had a go at making a whippel tether today, its turned out great its not the neatest of tethers but it will work, I think the coloured heat shrink sets them of as it hinds all the whipping and stitching, but I only had clear to hand, I had a load of 8mm ocean vector given me so that was my base. I folded the rope to create 2 eyes at one end and a single at the other to allow for the wrench, taped it into place and crossed stitched the eyes with 1.5mm whipping twine, then whipped over the top, couple of whips in the centre and near the top for a little support and then loads of shrink wrap, again not the neatest but for my first attempt I'm pleased
  13. Nice one Paul well deserved, your like the OG of arbtalk mate, your thread is not only an inspiration but a scripture I don't believe in all that hocus pocus stuff and karma, but I do generally believe that the zigzag is only a small token of appreciation of what you bring to this forum, I'm happy to call you a friend as I'm sure many others are. I'm sitting at my breakfast bar with a perfectly raised cup of tea and I toast to you my Freind........... Silky:thumbup:
  14. Knowledge He can't even identify a privet:laugh1: Calm down rob I'm joking
  15. not sure yet mate yet to see it myself, ill probably get there it will be 6' round 30' tall and probably be a sycamore or something
  16. How tall is that gate? 4ft? Using a ruler if the gate is 4ft its exactly 4mm the tree is just over 11mm making it just over 110ft nice find if it is a true black pop! Does it have an order on it mate?
  17. Nice work David:thumbup: what time scale are the retrenchments going to be? Sorry mate jumped the gun lol just read that bit
  18. If you rigging big limbs mate then you would obviously be doing some drastic work to the tree like take down so top tie would always be first option, pretty much the same pollarding, everything else is never going to compromise the base anchor
  19. I'll make sure you have ago on the wrench next time mate, Did you get my invite to the champion group Martyn ?
  20. Nice one Simon welcome to the ??? I would say dark side but its not the dark side to me I'm a rope wrench Jedi
  21. Yeah kinda of got carried away posting that one
  22. Nice one mate look forward to meeting you, let's see if we can't come up with any dates then. In the mean time I've just been to see this oak, the owner is going to get back to me on climbing it so we will see, fingers crossed as its huge. Done with my panoramic app on the iPhone This one was just normal, I did do a quick clinometer reading but was not accurate on the distance from the tree but somewhere in the region of 27/32m in height and possibly 35m spread???
  23. Not sure joe, was going to organise it so everyone could get here really there are loads to do on one sight, are you up for it mate?
