  1. The 372 weighs nowhere near 13.4 lbs. Neal and I have been collecting chainsaw powerhead weights for a while now: Neal Murphy's Chainsaw Weight Gallery Photo Gallery by WYK at pbase.com The 461 weighs 5% more and has nearly 10% more cc's. But I feel it pulls stronger than the 10% cc difference.
  2. Ya did well. If that muff has a cat, tho, I'd remove it asap.
  3. They are sexy. I have a bias for Japanese saws and bars. BTW, Sugi is a type of Japanese cypress. Hara means the 'spirit' or 'essence' of. So that's sorta cool. Yeah, my mother was Japanese. If you look on the bar you'll see a stylised cypress. Do a muffler mod right, and that thing will pull 16" 3/8 no problem.
  4. It is silly on that saw unless yer just using it in a tree. But, what I meant was, I didn't know sugi hara made a lightweight bar in that size. I mean, it's 13"
  5. I'm actually more amazed you can get a bar that short for a small mount husky
  6. My guess is Steve would start by adding a chain...
  7. He'd probably be fine with a 420 or a 460, I would think.
  8. If you can find the Zenoah version of the 543, it is usually much more affordable than the husky rebadge. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/chainsaws/62311-zenoah-4300-543xp.html 241's can be made to run strong, but I personally don't think they are value for money. [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=VpoanYuQu_Q[/ame] You may also want to consider the Shindaiwa 452S/502S if you have an Echo dealer nearby as they are both owned by the same company now. I have used a 452S and enjoyed it. Also the newest Echo 500ES/500P is a Shindaiwa 452S with a 49cc top end. Same weight, 50cc power. Dolmar's 420 is a nice saw, if a bit portly. I would prefer it to an MS250, tho.
  9. So, yours leak, too? I am so surprised. And here you are blaming the user and not the tool. That's cool... except... My non screw caps never leaked. Regardless of who used the saw. I've never had a cap fail on me before. Nor did countless other professionals. It is frustrating because this is marketing at its best. You have been sold something you absolutely do not need, and worse yet, it makes the machine less reliable and requires more maintenance. The groupies have already learned to tolerate a prone-to-fail part that requires more maintenance as a feature. It is madness that some think this makes any sense at all. It is amazing how powerful marketing can be.
  10. Absolutely not a fan of Stihl flippy caps. 20 years of caps working fine, then Stihl introduced the flippies and they have failed more often than I can count. The best part is when flippy groupies try to tell you it is your fault and not the cap.
  11. [ame] [/ame] Much of the work was done by Wicked Work Saws, with a few tweaks by myself. The scary thing is that is the exact same shirt I am wearing in the 372 video. Those videos are 5-6 years apart(though only uploaded 3 years apart). Well made shirt that. Still have it.
  12. Skip chain works well, is not too rough for simple bucking, and it is not slow cutting. 28" skip square ground in PNW big leaf maple(a bit like horse chestnut), on an unported 372xp. [ame] [/ame] Ported 044 with skip and a 25" bar(I used to have this on my 361): [ame] [/ame] Yes - it does help clear those chips rather well. She is pulling 12,000 RPM+ in the cut there.
  13. I used an 880 once. Once.
  14. I ground the heels off the teeth of mine on my 330 EVL and it made a huge difference. But, then again, I tend to do that with about every chain I get.
  15. I agree. Get the 395 if you just have to have a new saw. You may also consider letting spud give the 461 a tickle and then put a 30" bar on it.
  16. Put that bottle down, Niko.
  17. Does it count towards a 550xp?
  18. I have a monkeys paw. You want that? That's free to you.
  19. Yer better off with a 550 =')
  20. I run a 17" bar on my 241 in oak.
  21. Other than the bog, I really have no complaints.
  22. It's new. My old issue was the carb wasn't working at all. This one works. But it still has the bog the earlier 241's were notorious for.
  23. I was considering doing that. I predict it will work...for a bit. I'll open it a tiny bit like I have seen on some of the 441CM mods, and hopefully not get the chain spinning. Coz once the MT sees her spinning, it will be in a rich running spiral of death thanks to MTronic trying to tame it in. Right now I am in the middle of testing the filter system. I am going to run it until Friday afternoon and see how much stuff I can tap off it. It's been a very busy week with firewood and blow downs, too. I haven't so much as started the 044. I have been solely using the 241, and this with blown down spruce up to 2'+ DBH.
