  3. TBH I believe there are far to many schools producing quotas of students expecting to be hired right out of school only to have the reality of the job market kick them right in the bottom:thumbdown: As far as the adults wanting to enter this industry the competition will always be a toss up between say ex military that already have skill sets and disciplines in place and say younger more energetic bodies showing potential but still not quite ready for prime time. Funding aside this type of work is really physically demanding and finding the correct formula to produce the best student will continue to be a challenge. The adult students that have the know all and previous life and professional life experiences seemingly should prove the best candidates for the industry only because many have been there and done that already to one degree or another. Younger students have a different point of view since they choose to believe that they do not need years of practical experience in order to achieve what generally does not come over night. I call this generation the Pepsi Generation since they want everything NOW!!!. I believe that some employers are also of this same mind set and this does not help when it comes to setting a correct example for the students to follow rather than a convenient excuse to counter what has been learned in school but is now a choice between employment with one company or another:thumbdown: I believe a concerted effort between companies and schools needs to be in place to minimize these problems going forward. If such cooperation is presently in place I have not noticed it based on hundreds of post on this site related to this topic. Always room for improvements, however I believe a master plan of sorts between this industry and the schooling systems must be working off of the same sheet of music in order to be successful for the future. easy-lift guy
  4. Those crafty Mid Western Americans. With a back pack blower and actual air foil fins for steering I see something like that being a lot of fun to build and opperate. easy-lift guy
  5. I agree with Mike. My opinion is based on the out side looking in. As a manufacturer and sponsor/ground dweller I honestly believe the Arborcultural Industry in the UK is completely saturated, from a schooling point of view. Far to many applicants filling even less positions available. If the number of new students were required to have more on the job training before graduation the numbers would be reduced through attrition while reducing the glut of students in the process. The additional time on the job will only improve the over all quality and profiency of the future employee for employers to draw off of. 15. If the transport had solid running tyres and the weather permitted. Yes. How ever being a ground dweller, for the most part I would stick with my ranger and have a safer more comfortable ride. easy-lift guy
  16. Evening all, It seems that the chat room actually does function as I met up with a member from Scotland just a few minutes ago:thumbup1: For all of the usual suspects that frequented the old chat room just wondering if there is any new interest to stay in touch once again? No bells or sound affects like the old chat room:thumbdown:, however if anyone is willing I will be in tomorrow between 6-10 PM your local time. Best Regards Ted
  17. I have found the paraffin coated boxes from the grocery store make excellent kindling for nearly all types of wood. Sliced into 2" strips the amount of flame they produce is a marvel. Even better for camping. I once had a firewood customer that was not very pleasant on a good day complain about the split wood I had brought over to her one season. Seems she could not get the wood to stay lit. I brought in a bundle of the box strips and the fire was burning nicely in a couple of minutes. Never did receive another complaint after that cure. easy-lift guy
  18. Good point. Actually the appearance of the overhead lines is somewhat deceiving. I suspect they are much higher than the photo shows. Great way to shear that hedge none the less:thumbup1: easy-lift guy
