No I’ve perfected the clutch removal with a pair of thin nosed mole grips in the recesses turned by a BIG adjustable !!!! The washers seem ok to be honest. The small washer came off sat between the sprocket and the body, with the big washer sat inside the clutch drum between it and the clutch. I’m assuming that that’s correct ? 🤷🏼♂️

Hi Spudders, yes it stalls every time . I’ve ordered the clutch spring so I’ll work backwards from there . I’ve taken out the needle bearing and greased it and it seems ok, but that will be next on the list then if the spring doesn’t win [emoji1303]

A customer gave me a little Husky 236 X torx in very good condition . Starts ok, revs ok but I can’t get it to idle without the chain creeping , and if I wind out the idle screw gently it then stalls . I’ve reset both the high and low to 2 turns out and adjusted the low but it won’t have it. Any ideas ? I’m pretty familiar with tuning all my Stihls but this Husqy is proving obstinate ☹️ The only thing I can think is it may need new clutch spring? Any pointers ? What’s the best starting point for the hi lo screws to be wound out to ? Many thanks [emoji1317]

Hello, I’m trying to find someone who could plank an Oak butt for a customer of mine. It’s an open grown English Oak dia approx 3’ . I’ll be honest I can’t remember how long/ tall the utilisable milling length might be but will know more once I’ve felled it next week. I think she’d like a rough idea of costs involved but also what lengths we’d need to cut it into for the mill . I’m sorry if this is in any way an irritating question or benign but my specialism lays in the climbing side not the end use bit ! [emoji51][emoji847]

In all my years I’ve never seen this on a standing tree. This is on a 250 year old (approx) C Lime . The seam of fruiting bodies stretch from the ground to 20’ !! Any ideas what they are as I’ve only come across this type of fungus on the ground ..

As an aside, should I find the head un salvageable (as I do personally most Monday mornings!) , have you any experience of the Chinese offerings or are they a mixed bag of pot luck like so many Chinese parts seem to be ?

Yes I’ve noticed that even early on in their infection the limbs go incredibly brittle despite still looking ‘almost’ healthy . Very difficult to get direction on the hinge as a result . Behaves like Sycamore rather than Ash sometimes . I think winch where you are able to and don’t be too hopeful of getting your biased hinges etc to work like they used to on these infected trees. I can see us having to dismantle some grim ones in the ensuing years .

Yes , my new bar turned up yesterday . No lateral play on new bar with old chain. Now cuts perfectly with no binding = worn bar internal sides . Surprising on a 4 month old bar .

Your harness never gets as unusably wet and unenjoyable as your rope though ! [emoji26] Also if you use different ropes you just pick out the one you want for that task . Also if I’m just wanting to strop into a little pruning job I’m just lugging the harness bag with hand saws/ secateurs etc and not a rope I don’t need . We’re all different though [emoji1307]

Ah, just checked with a straight edge but as the kerf of this chain is about as wide as the bar on this pitch, this test doesn’t show anything. That said, I can’t arf push the chain over on its axis which still bolsters my theory that the internal bar rails have worn, but then given how quick this saw cuts especially tweaked, I guess something has to wear and it’s a small price to pay if indeed it is actually the bar at fault .

Had the same thing happening and finally realized this was the cause after thinking it was uneven/poor sharpening Internal wear on bars grooves even though the bars looked only very lightly worn by visual inspection. Nice way to check. Thanks my friend [emoji1303]
