  1. Looking at buying an electric firewood saw, I tried a single ph powered one a good no of years ago, and rather opted for the PTO version. But, man o man an electric saw would be so handy for working in the shed. But if I want more "oomph" I gotta go 3ph, so I need a ph convertor. I seem to remember our single ph supply was stated to be good for 8KVA/8KW Any advice would be gratefully received. marcus
  2. She was not pleased, but could not refute my impeccable logic. The man who replaced her, after she totally ripped the arse out of the Council's sick policy due to health issues (and after years of having to have another male officer accompany her, basically to do her job for her) Probably issued more fixed penalities in a month, than she ever did, and made it look easy.
  3. Tsk! tsk! KJ How fallacious can one get, a motel at £59.00 per night is not a nursing home at £185.00, with nursing care provided. A comparison with a residential home might be more pertinent? Unless he has prearranged a "hit" to terminate his residency if/when ill health strikes?
  4. Nice!
  5. Stubby, I made the same argument to our local blond, and fond of herself, and very ineffectual, ex RUC, Environmental Warden, when she rather primly suggested that I had no grounds for reporting flytipping on our land, because there were no signs displayed. Except I simply said; "do you mind if I come round and crap in your good front room, because I bet you dont have any signs not telling me to do that".
  6. The above loathsome individual is best described as "you couldn't make it up if you tried" in respect of the deep conflict between her profligate taxpayer funded lifestyle and her ministerial appointment, but then she is probably profoundly narcissistic. The perfect example of what is wrong with most career politicians. Marcus
  7. MM, pics please?
  8. Better watch out the wee girl disnay grow up to be another "climate Barbie" see link
  9. I hope it has not been posted before, but a search did not suggest so . . .
  10. Meh! I ud worry more about a big fucking meteorite crash-bang-walloping into the Earth. And as easy to predict or prevent as any of our present perceptions of climate instability. mth
  11. Them fuzzi-wuzzi's in Aden still at it? An I thought we were told it were all the Brits fault back in the 60's. Scheesh!
  12. Spud, is the above quote not putting the cart before the horse? Or rather to run a saw hard and hot, more lubrication is probably advisable? And/Or to burn the excess lubrication oil, the saw needs to be worked hard and hot? I know nowt about 2 stroke tuning btw! mth
  13. I imagine a sloping Polytunnel should be self regulating, because the air will only rise if warmer than the outside air, but the gradient is key, and Google should be your friend? Anyway all I know is the experienced gardener I worked with for 20 odd years insisted that any polytunnel should be on sloping ground, for natural thermally induced ventilation, to prevent "damping off". Other than that, here in Nth Co. Antrim, our best drying is from the dry cold biting wind from the East, generally in Feb or March, that strips moisture like one could not believe. No heat needed. So air movement is key. Marcus
  14. From casual observations over 45 years, horses need hard ground, merely in respect of their grazing, I cannot therefore imagine they would be any good in deep peat. Camels might be better suited to peat though?
  15. I was wile pleased to see 2 Herons in the wet waterlogged peat that was bulldozed last autumn, not 50m from our kitchen window, followed later by a solitary Heron who calmly sauntered over to inspect the wee pond, where the frogs have been busy this past week. The first time since 1995 I have seen them thus, though they have always nested in the oldest Sitka stand not a 1/4 mile away, and have always overflown the yard on a daily basis. Or as some poet expressed it; "what is this world, if full of care, we have no time, to stand and stare"
  16. Unfortunately I detest those type of shows, all gung-ho and lets throw money at it, then forget about it/skip-it, and lets move on to the next new thing. From 32 years of Council experience.
  17. Oops Sincere apologies for slightly hijacking this DF and Sequoia thread gents. mth
  18. Stronger than the Nugent, or so I assessed, at least in respect of the construction of the cribs etc. And yet only 575 Kg without the mesh extension cribs. It certainly towed well until my shitty-Skoda-special "computer says no" moment. Btw. I was told Dale Kane is a brother of the Kane that builds the wonderfully well designed and constructed agricultural trailers, one of which I lust after, but unjustifably expensive for my humble needs, and much, much too grand to yoke to the well tired 1984 1490 D Brown! Cheers Marcus P.S. It shall indeed be towed by the 3500KG rated 1998 Steyr Daimler Puch. P.P.S. Even the 300D 88HP lethargic slugs of G Wagens from the early 1980's were rated to tow 3500KG, the theory being one could never attain enough speed to get into difficulties I can only suppose!
  19. A 5' by 10' 3000 Kg Dale Kane with mesh extension cribs, 6 months old, but unmarked. Fingers crossed it should fit my needs, Now all I need is a car to tow it!
  20. Yes, but I took the advice, from on here, and instead bought a trailer, just tonight. On the way home, towing said trailer, the Skoda shat herself, flashing glowplug light, defaulted to 2nd, and not rev beyond 2000rpm and very erratically at that, quite wonderful when towing AND then I got a flat wheel 5 miles from home.
  21. pure happenstance?, more like, no doubt a whole lotta Google malarky, but this came up in my otherwise quite unrelated Youtube selection.
  22. Peter Burrows at towing and trailers priced me up a complete 2700kg rated set of 4 Avonride suspension units, wheels, hitch and full LED lighting kit, for £1040.46 plus Vat, i.e everything needed to fit running gear to a trailer chassis or body, to run at 2700Kg. He was very helpful too.
  23. Be wile handy for the Moss, an sure ah cud walk away without a qualm iffen it did get bogged.
  24. Hands like shovels, and I dont imagine I ud fancy getting gubbed by one of them btw. I saw somewhere that he practises 90 minute "chinups" using just two fingers!
  25. Only read the article in Nat Geog, seriously impressive stuff. Tells us "geographic restriction" i.e. unavailable in the UK? at least on our internet enabled TV. We pay for the magazine, but presumably the channel is another subscription?
