  1. yup true, better the devil you know and all that. eventually the problems will wean out, what engine has it got?
  2. i may be wrong but i reckon you'll get more ranger for your money than hilux!
  3. landys are funny things really- some seem to be bottomless money pitts and others rarely cause any bother. but at least they are all easy to sell on again.
  4. blimey 350 is cheap for a new clutch, i was quoted 600 a few months ago when mine went, ended up doing it myself, really quite easy- just laborious.
  5. Yeah those p30 contractor models look very good and I think they can have up to 180kg hammer which will knock most strainers in. I would like one on the back of a alpine tractor but not sure how big the tractor would have to be to cope with the weight.
  6. wow- id love to have a bryce but unfortunatly don't get enough fencing to justify it, I find my mini digger one very handy for jobs tractor struggles to access but could do with a bigger weight as its only 100kg hammer on it. I also have a hydraulic auger, if its hard ground I pilot drill all the strainer post holes with a 4inch auger before knocking them in. works for me and can do 100m a day on my own which isn't too bad.
  7. neither out here yet, seems a bit slow this year!
  8. Do any of you ever use a winch to counterbalance a heavily leaning tree when rigging big bits out? Iv got a nasty pollarded Ash which has got quite a lean on it to dismantle in a few weeks, its sitting on nice soft peat so thinking of using this tecnique just to counterbalance any snatching on the lean.
  9. I think shes twisting the truth TBH I reckon they said they would take the wood for free and she converted it to they would also fell it. She also informed me she could get a crane in for £200. Needless to say I won't be following that job up. total timewaster.
  10. I went to look at a MASSIVE beech dismantl the other day down an embankment garden down two flights of stairs fences underneath etc probably 4 days work with three of us, I gave her a price of £2k and she turned round and said 'oh but I know someone who'll do it for free for the firewood'. I replied 'well let them crack on with it then'!
  11. Its actuallly impossible to set up a legit tree surgery buisness charging that little, that much plus expenses is possible but still leaves no room for profit. But after you've paid expenses out of £10 per hour you'd be left with about 50p:lol:
  12. Ha iv just realised Iv mixed up this thread with replying to another:blushing:. Unless you are a very efficient/experianced groundsman you might not get alot more then £70. Climbing is mostly a young mans game if your starting fresh. Without sounding rude it will take you at least three years to become a good tree worker whether on the ground or in the tree to be able to command more than £70. How about looking into garden maintenance or somthing where you could start on your own with a smaller outlay than tree work and maybe sub for a tree company a few days here and there as a groundsman, it would be varied work and you always have the opportunity to move into trees as your own client base and experiance grows.
  13. Alot of people have said this on the forum but it must be in certain areas or somthing, I started on my own in 2009 when it was all kicking of and my buisness has steadily grown, trees/hedges will always need work and if you can offer another service (fencing in my case) and you do a good job how can it go wrong. Although to the OP if you can't survive on 70 quid it might me hard to get things going as you probably won't get work everyday, why not go to Norway to get some savings get a decent truck forget the chipper and keep the money as a backup and grow your buisness steadily.
  14. If you have 50k to play with, why not keep a transit or canter or whatever for domestic urban work and buy a tractor with bigger chipper or roof mount for clearance jobs, you'll get much more tractor for your money then a mog. 20k should sort you out a nice roofmount.
  15. I don't understand this, why on earth are they so expensive? I put a new one in my landy and it was about £50!
  16. actually yeah i must say the isuzu trooper is a cracking truck and you'l get a good one much cheaper then 5k, mate of mine has one and it seems to keep going, even if it does spend most of the time towing his landy to the garage!
  17. although this thread has potential for being another one of 'those' threads
  18. Forget the rest, buy the best- gotta be a landy 90 for your situation, unless you need load space then the 110:thumbup1: 4-5k will get you a decent landy
  19. bell insurance £450 a year for a landy, think thats quite good as im only 24.
  20. Congrats, Did you have to provide your own trailer? also if your doing it in a Landrover or something similar, are you allowed to drop it into LOW so it make reversing easier? I would consider myself good at reversing but I always drop the box anyhow as it means less clutch control.
  21. If the solenoid still reads 12v if it cuts out again I will be taking it to a garage, but I like to know what problems are and know my vehicle so i can fix them when future problems arise. I don't think we are pissing in the wind, I know a lot more about the potential causes of the problem now then before I started the thread.
  22. I have tested the solenoid 12v lead which is a true reading, the connection wasn't entirely convincing (might just be that) however I just need it to cut out now so i can retest it see if it still reads 12v, have also bled the system and checked all the fuel lines, can't see any obvious faults. can't really do a lot more untill it cuts out again but im hoping it was the solenoid connection. I have a spare wire ready if i need to bypass the original solenoid lead. Cheers for all the help, at least I feel I know the system better now if it cuts out again.
  23. I rarely take chip away- theres always a hedge it can be fired into:001_smile: with customer consent of course
  24. or get a tracked chipper tow it to the job in a tipping trailer, fill it with chip and tip come back and get the chipper, yes i know alot of travelling but its all legal.
  25. He didn't though, the OP started the landrover slagging match. I find the Landrover owner rarely start the slagging, nothing to prove you see:001_tongue:
