  1. I'm quite taken by Jura. My new favourite and I can see the island from the hill behind the house. Dave
  2. Any issues with customs? Dave
  3. Waiting for kids to get up! ! Dave
  4. Very much appreciated. Merry Christmas all! Dave
  5. Pm sent!
  6. Ground soaked here. Water pooling in places I've never seen it before. Give me cold and dry any day. Dave
  7. Wow. Pension, tax and NI paid? No doubt tax credits on top and can get second job? Sorry but I agree. That's a great deal. Dave
  8. 3.5 cube of concrete. Dave
  9. I think of my heath and stone fireplace as heat sinks. After the burners out they give the grreat back to the room. Love the metal idea! Maybe consider an ecofan. They have a large following. Dave
  10. I'll dig out the link but bottom line is it's a con and adds such a small amount to the u value of a wall as to be considered negligible. Dave
  11. A very well made point indeed. Only the fringes, the rural areas where delivery is prohibitively costly, will be left out of the business model of the importers. Dave

    Wind

Lots of wind in the west up here. Really scuppering my felling plans. Can't see the southerlies letting up before Christmas. A westerly would be fine! Very frustrating. Dave
  13. Fitting into workshop this week with a 4 inch flue. Didn't make myself. Dave
  14. Blowing hard. Lightening. New shed doing it's job and machinery protected. The gusts are brutal but not as strong as forecasts; could be local shelter effect from high ground to the west. Suspect I'll be out with saw and tractor soon enough. Dave
  15. Cracked on and finished roof line this morning. Still no concrete floor but decided to tuck her away with the first good blow of winter on it's way. Glad I beat the weather. Dave
  16. Pretty sure it's Jan 1st 1973. Dave
  17. Oops! Name on YouTube video. Contractor 18 from Crofter Machinery. Dave
  18. Aye. Hadn't adjusted the top link correctly for a higher level! Dave
  19. There's more energy in a m3 of hardwood than a m3 of softwood. My log store has two 13m3 bays. A bay of hardwood lasts a year. I'd need a 17m3 storage bay if burning softwood. Dave
  20. I've been a solid axe man until now. Decided as I was upping my volumes that I needed some mechanical help. I searched lots of info on here about splitters and processors. Most importantly I did sums. To be blunt I want profit. My trees aren't straight so processors were out. Splitters capable of making billets are too expensive to invest in as well. My road to profit will be by a modest investment in a hydraulic splitter for my old Ford, allowing time for logs to season and by charging sensibly. Here's the splitter that ticked the boxes. Went to workshop before buying. I like British engineering, I like the builder and the 3 year guarantee. Made light work of a three year old beech block that has defeated me for years. This block has reached mythical status amongst my friends and served well as a chopping block. Lots of felling to get into and a forecast of a cold snap to firm the ground. Excellent! Dave
  21. Any feedback from insurers on lower premiums? Dave
  22. Why not a floating pontoon across. Common on the west coast here. Daze

  24. I'd go down the farm route. Permitted development and no business rates. Every farm/Smallholding needs a shed! What's the status of the land at the moment? Is it agricultural? Dave
  25. Look forward to the update. Looks controllable as opposed to the gas bottle ones I'm looking at on eBay. Dave
