  1. No fruiting bodies around that I could see.
  2. Dismantled to a reduced pole, then felled. There was some rot and some discoloration in the center. Multiple fungi present it seemed. Most of the affected wood was quite solid, though some of it was soft.
  3. Wow! How safe is that? I can imagine the pilot needing to keep the heli directly above the tree with a bit of tension but not too much or else the tree would be all over the place with you in it. Semi static line? Looked really well done.
  4. Yesterday's job. Got a bit wet. A lime that we were supposed to deadwood at a school. We did all the rest but this one had a shear crack, the roots on the tension side had lifted slightly (you can just see it on the pic). One of the roots had actually torn. Very strong gust?
  5. Seen inosculation before (cheers David, had forgotten the term:-)), just not like this. Was wondering how it occurred and quite surprised at the neatness of the graft. Cheers!
  6. The branch from the left stem grew into the right stem(Sorry about taking the pic a bit late). It seems to have been pruned and then occluded. But then it merges into the stem on the right. Did the right stem grow after? Notice how the growth increments from the right stem merge with the branch?
  7. Nice one! Signed and hopefully get a few more to as well.
  8. Funny thread! That mag throwbag is very cool. I use slip blood knot to attach throwbags as it is sturdy and very quick to tie and untie. One bag on each end, different weights. Tailor made throwbags (was in India and needed throwbags) using a ring and two layers of canvas with lead fishing weights inside. Using some crappy standard throwline. Broke 3 times yesterday. Don't get crappy throwline. Throw using the twirling method (like a sling?)
  9. Cool, time to get a pair. Hope all is well.
  10. Audio project (listening to trees)? Any specific reason? P.S. always enjoy seeing your work and environment.
  11. Anyone around Derbyshire or South Yorkshire have one? I would love to try it out and check it out. Cheers P.S. the compact version(latest)
  12. Anyone in Derbyshire or South Yorkshire using one? I would love to try it and check it out. P.S. Ian, I noticed you use Safe Eyes mesh goggles. Thinking of getting some... Are they better than a normal visor? Cheers
  13. Found this today:lol: No, it wasn't us. ~8m tall, leaning sycamore.
  14. No, in short. It was in various areas in the canopy so I didn't think to look at the base.
  15. We ended up crown lifting the tree. Here are cross cut details of affected areas or near affected areas. You can see where the ridges will form. I did not think to look at non affected areas to see if they are the same... There were at least 3 distinct areas throughout the tree that were affected. It looks like the cambium is fine. Don't know about the bark cambium though. Any thoughts appreciated.
  16. Hi, Has anyone seen this before? It looks like the woodlice and perhaps some sort of nematodes have partially eaten the dead bark off this Rowan. The outer layer of the bark, as in a very thin sliver of silver bark, was still attached all around. The "damage" goes all around the tree and is also visible on some upper parts. The stem was previously covered in ivy. What is left, as can be seen in the pics, is ridged wood that is alive. Is this still cambium or has the cambium layer been removed? Just wondering if the tree has put out the leaves without any link to the roots and will therefore die this year... Any info or suggestions? Beetle damage? Cheers, Island
  17. I go to Jon in Sheffield. LOLER Inspections of tree surgery arboricultural equipment including for bat and ecological surveys
  18. Yes, I am looking at some used non-locking krabs. Just wondering if people have tried these as the concept is good.
  19. Anyone used these? Tactical EDC Gear Carabiner Molle Backpack KeyRing D-Ring Spring Snap Clip | eBay They look pretty cheap and not really chainsaw supporting. Just looking around as I need some new caritoolish krabs. Cheers
  20. Nice tribute! Looks like you guys get up to a lot more than just chopping trees. Nice environment:)
  21. Any videos from the comp? Would love to check it out next year.
  22. Just did it in lvl 4 course. Same specs.
  23. In case there are others that want to try that from ladders :-): [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxst-7MmUfM]using ladders for tree work - YouTube[/ame]
