1. Or whang a met post in the hole, the one with the 1/2 angle foot long spur - thats what I have done to our fence on a regular basis:thumbup:
2. Well the MS650 is up and running - new crank, bearings, seals and a decent OEM top end fitted - full rebuild and sounds smooth - just need to sell it now:thumbup: MS200T - piston arrived today, two hours later and it was fitted and running - sweet:thumbup: Two new transformers fitted on our recessed lighting in a loft with around 1.5' clearance - painful experience. Car packed up, disconnected the battery to reset the EPU and then jumped it off the wifes one - started and now seems OK. I need a holiday:001_rolleyes:
3. We have had some great holidays in Croatia, Started in the Istria Peninsular then down to Dubrovnik and ended up six years on the trot in Tucepi near Markaska. Met some lovely people and had some laughs driving in to Bosnia and over to the Plitvic Lakes. Good luck to you - we were one of the first people in after the war and the locals were great, very friendly - going back this year again - bit like a home from home now:thumbup:
4. We went to Chasworth Christmas market and got some decen Cheddars, one with Horseraddish, oen with Chilli, a very strong one and Apple Smoked. All have gone down well with a bit of port and decent crackers......someone send me a saw that wont start - I need to work it off:001_rolleyes:
5. Get an old machine and strip and rebuild it - learn what each part is for and understand what function it has and why - you learn a damn sight more by doing rather than reading about it. For the record - I have had no formal training, I learnt by having non running saws and needed to get them running - that was an efffective incentive plan:thumbup:
6. Worth doing IMO, resale is around £100-140, not bad little saws for a bit of prunning and light weight logging.
7.

You have just missed one, I do have another on the shelf to refurb but it will be as time allows and it doesn't allow for much at the moment! Will let you know if I get round to doing it - sorry, just very busy.

Aspen fuel

Very unlikely, I would say that an indepth inspetion is throwing forward various small faults that would have gone unnoticed but would have become worse and damaging in time. I am surprised the new carb didn't fix it but am guessing that the other faults could be part of the issue. Generally a good carb clean will resolve these issues, and as Barrie says, MS200ts are renowned for having issues in the fuel system.

Aspen fuel

Sorry Barrie, I should have used Ye Olde English word "Shyte" in the fuel system:lol: All I know is that it can cause issues but once through them, all will be fine.

Aspen fuel

Aspen will run fine on brand new equipment, if used on older equipment it can degrade the rubber components but is more a reaction on the parts after pump fuel has softened them already. You can get fuel leaks between fuel pipes and tanks plus on older machines, the Aspen can dissolve resins and the inner surface of the fuel tank causing the issues thet you probably have. Try stripping the carb, use carb cleaner down the H and L screw holes and try it again, it should help. This is my own experience and may not be others!
12. Most of these switches have fascia type retainers - these are two sprung plastic lugs either side of the switch that constrict when pushed in to the apperture and spring open once through the hole thus retaining the switch. You normally get them out by pushing in one of the lugs and prising the same side of the switch out of its hole - pushing on the back of the switch normally does it.
13. Bit of a change today, carved a big acorn out of oak to fit on a walking staff I am making, turned out rather well as a first attempt. Other than that, I tached up a few saws and started work on one of my own saws, an MS650 that has a bent crank and has taken the top end out. I am fitting a new crank, bearings, seals and have a decent top end to replace the worn one. Should be a good saw when done.
14. Not heard much from you Rich - thought you were in hibrnation:lol: I have pretty much all I need, last addditions were three palm ratchets and a nice anodised set of long reach sockets. The Ultrasonic cleaner blew up just before Christmas so got a new one of those and the old one is on the bench as we speak, have replaced all the diodes as three of them were fried - still didn't work so now have two power transistors on order as they both had very different diode effect base to emitter and collector! On the bench - just got to tach a MS200, Dolmar 143 and MS201. Got a 390XP in with a fried piston on Christmas eve, cleaned the cylinder up and got the piston on order so that and the carbon damaged MS200 are next up for completion.
15. I would second Barries diagnosis, if it doesnt resolve the issue and the saw still smokes then it is possible that the gasket between the oil tank and crankcase has failed but isn't very likely!
16. Don't tempt fate, he has probaly got an electric carving knife attatchment for his drill somewhere for some bizarre reason:001_rolleyes:
17. Happy Christmas to all the guys on this thread, techies and guys with saw problems. Good wishes to all the members I have done work for be it servicing, porting or just getting you out of trouble. Hope all is well in your homes and wishing you all a Happy, Safe and prosperous New Year:thumbup:
18. Had a bit of interest when I mentioned I had a Dolmar 123 in decent condition kicking round my workshop - It started in six pulls after being layed up for a couple of years. Here it is in all it's glory - better than I remembered and WOW - what an exhaust:lol:
19. Finished off the Dolmar 143 today - started on the eighth pull and all works just fine, turned out very clean - Before and After
20. Ever thought about a new life in politics.......with that logic and spin:001_rolleyes::lol:
21. You have three options: - OEM Stihl Chinese non OEM Source suitable alternatives Seals are relatively easy to change so it's generally a toss up between the aftermarket ones or original. Try Tesgol (Sawbits) - he generally does full bottom end kits for a tenner! You may be able to get other seals to fut but they don't have the metal surround for support.
22. Pretty much what I was thinking, surprised the MS460 was that much faster on a similar bar!
23. Last one up before Christmas, a very tidy Dolmar 143, looks old and clean:thumbup: Have been asked to service it so as it has been standing, am doing the vac/pressure test, have cleaned the carb, have fitted a full carb kit and am fittinng a new upper fuel line. Compression is 155psi and the piston/bore is clean.
24. Next up, an MS660, the problem was bad kickback on starting. Gave it a bit of a going over, lots of sawdust under the airfilter:thumbup: I regapped the coil to flywheel which resolved the kickbackand retuned the L screw as it wasn't too easy to start. This saw has had the rubbery chain brake handle problem so brazed on an addition to the exhaust to redirect it away from the handle - will see how that goes.
25. Still going at it hard:001_rolleyes: First one up, MS200T, piston scored so have a new one on order. Looks like carbon damage froma very cruddy exhaust port. The other MS200 was over reving and had a very fast idle, fortunately the guy using it stopped it PDQ. Pressure/vacuum test showed the impulse line was bad and the seals had a slight leak, replaced all of them and a few other parts - now runs 100%. The scored piston as below
