  1. Cheers. I do most of the basic maintenance on our machinery and as the flail hasn't been given a really good going over i think i may as well do it tomorrow morning then test it tomorrow afternoon. I would estimate there to be 50 metres of bailer twine of varying lengths and thicknesses wrapped around the shaft. So will be getting the stanley knife on that lot tomorrow.
  2. Had 9 cup fulls of the stuff at a party on Saturday night. Woke up sunday with no hangover at all. Anyone that was on strongbow, woodpecker, gaymers, bulmers, etc woke up with a stinking hangover
  3. You want cider i've found a little place near me which does cider with bits in it. £9.60 for 5 litres or £8.60 if you bring your own 5 litre container.
  4. I asked the gent who normally uses it and he has never taken the head off to clean it out as he thought the bailer twine was just buried under the flailings. If the gent isn't in tomorrow i shall get a pic of it before and after the clean with the heap of the stuff next to it as you can even see the shaft.
  5. When i engage the PTO shaft there is a whine coming from the flail head. I'm not sure if it is the bearings that are whining because of the lack of grease or if it because they have collapsed. But we are going to be spending an hour or so removing bailer twine and other nasties from around the shaft. Here is a picture of it
  6. The black ooze is their wee. Generally the base of the hole would be smooth with faint sratch marks from their claws. It looks very similar to bark ooze from a fresh wound or from Honey fungus.
  7. Today we were borrowing a walk behind from our colleagues. I noticed that the grease point on the right hand side of the flail was kicking out steam when it was going through heavy grass. We asked if it had been greased recently and they said that the last time it was greased was its last service 18 months ago:cursing:. Would the damage already be done with steam kicking out of the bearing housing? Or would flooding all moving parts with grease save a very hefty bill in a few weeks? On a different topic would hedgecutter grease still be suitable to be placed in a brushcutter gear housing (FS400,450,480 and 500)?
  8. They all now have mudguards on them now which isn't any fun but you still occasionally get pelted and sprayed with small bits. Whenever i have gone to Poole i've always been in the V.I.P part with my cousins which is cool as its free drinks:thumbup:
  9. I've just been watching my local Elite League team the Poole Pirates win the Elite League trophy. My cousins are sponsors and they supply the goggles. We know Neil "Middlo" Middleditch through the fire brigade as he is a fire/water damage stock seller.
  10. Not a video if you have a weak stomach. This is a re-released video by Korn. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRPxao3e_jY&feature=related]Korn - Right Now - YouTube[/ame]
  11. I've got 10 local pubs for me to choose from. 2 of them i won't go into as normally full of trouble makers, 2 i go into if i'm out with friends and the rest i go in with my work colleagues. Nice little selection of pubs ranging from old coaching inns to local brewery pubs.
  12. Trees are going to be monitored. After the last bout of strong gusty winds the front tree lost 4 branches and the two affected have lost all of their leaves. A few more Horse Chestnuts on the green space have got black lesions appearing and the leaves are turning yellow in July.
  13. We've got a 56 plate L200. Since we've had it not much has gone wrong with it. It's done just over 50,000 miles and had 2 clutches (winter log shifting) and 2 new sets of tyres. Ours has been lifted by two inches which has made it very good of road. We had it loaded today with 950KG of tools, and timber and it just dragged it around with no problems.
  14. And more rights of way stuff. We started with a clearance and stile replacement. We had a chat with the land owner and the gamekeeper as we would be making a fair bit of noise next to a drive. They were fine with it which was good. The rest of the jobs were fingerpost replacement/repair jobs around a small village and the checking of a "blocked" bridleway and a rotting stile.
  15. And here is the update BREAKING NEWS: Assault on schoolgirl claim withdrawn (From Dorset Echo)
  16. Heard this song last night on Radio 1. Made me laugh with some of the lyrics [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYygEbwCxQU&feature=related]Professor Green - At Your Inconvenience (Official Video) - YouTube[/ame] And quite possibly the sickest video for the song:lol: [ame] [/ame]
  17. A few pics of Rights of Way work today. First job was given as an overgrown footpath. It was overgrown to the point of you couldn't see where it went. So we cut our own path with the walk behind brush mower. The second job was to install a 3"x 3" post with a plastic finger. The normal way it just put a point onto the end and drive it in until it wont go in any more. We cut 3 feet off the top added a point and drove it in 2 feet. It looks nicer as the old one has been mullered by the farmer flailing his hedge so we put it on the other side of the road. We had two more jobs to do but one had been done for us and the fourth job is going to be about a mornings worth of tree clearance and bridge repair as an oak has dropped a big limb onto it.
  18. Got a Stihl MS260 which died on us this morning. The fuel smelt a bit funny this morning (not the usual petrol smell) but i only noticed it after the saw wouldn't start. Asked one of our apprentices as he did the petrol run this morning. We have 3 pumps in the yard, one for deisel, petrol and gasoil. He had put gasoil (normally used in generators) in the combi can. So we have 5 litres of gasoil and 2 stroke oil mix to get rid of. Going to strip the saw tomorrow morning to allow the oil to vapourise and drain the tank. How the apprentice got the Gasoil and Petrol nozzles mixed up i dunno.
  19. Its permanent 4wd but it was undriveable in just front wheel drive so had to improvise.
  20. Many years ago the rear UJ on our very old (K reg) 110 decided to fail on us on the way back to our yard about 30 minutes drive away. We were loaded up with logs and an trailer full of bracken. I used two 6 inch lengths of high tensile wire left in the back of the van to create a very very crude UJ. It worked until we got within 100 metres of the yard gate when it failed and hit a raised drain cover. The prop shaft snapped at the UJ near the diff and came up through the floor pan (Mythbusters style) wedging itself in the back door. Needless to say the 110 was got rid of that week and we got a 4 seater L200 instead.
  21. No update as of yet but a very heavy police presence around the town now. Had an unconfirmed report of a similar incident on one of our sites but this time with a full description of the man and the victim was an elderly female. Hopefully the police with produce an efit picture soon of the person for people to keep an eye out for him.
